Totally agree. I ended up with a G650GS, because the other GS bikes were just monstrous. It could use another 5 or so horses, but the weight trade off made it well worth it. I just did the Dalton Highway (Fairbanks to Prudoe Bay), and compared to the beastly 1200GS and Buel Ullysys that went with, I definitely had the easiest time, even down on power. Light = Goood!
Sorry, i guess i used the wrong phrase. I probably meant test, though review is still applicable. Anyway, in a video such as ''Budget V-twin group test'' (which was great!) they tested and in a sense reviewed some old bikes, and gave an excellent indication of age related quandaries, how the engine has fared the test of time and how they perform compared to their modern counterparts. I mean, i don't call £2.5K particularly budget, but still a more realistic option for many of us out there.
I'm buying an adventure bike in the spring of 2013, and sadly the BMW trio are alone in the top tier of my list. ( F700GS, F800GS, R1200GS ) I'm 5'5" in thick socks and BMW is the only manufacturer the has a "factory frame lowering option" to get the seat height down to a level where I can touch ground. I'd love to consider the Triumph Tiger 800 or Explorer 1200 to get a 3 cylinder engine, or the Tenere but they're just too tall.
FOR TRX whoever you are see definition of PT below. Parallel Twin: A two-cylinder engine configuration in which both cylinders are mounted side-by-side and across the frame.
there are rumors about it coming 2014 with the new 850 three cylinder motor from the mt-09 if they manage to produce a new xtz850 with 100hp, 100nm and ~210 kilos max (filled up) - that would be an absolute beast!
I'd say you got the wrong tires, didn't you? ;) I myself ride R1200R - an amazing bike, also for hanging off style until the boxer covers scratch the grounds..
Good economical review of an excellent bike; esp with reference to last Tenere review. However, as with all of these hummer-cycles, the larger issue (pun) ought to be addressed: Who the hell really needs/wants/enjoys riding these bikes? Other than fuelling the ego, the smaller "adventure" bikes are way more enjoyable for the vast majority of riders. Don't you agree that what we really need are the smaller V-Stroms, Tigers, ect. to be upgraded with better suspension, brakes and factory farkles?
Dear MCN, please can you do more used bike tests of bikes for BIKERS, i think i speak for many when i say people are getting fed up of adventure and touring bike reviews. Not only are they often ridden by self riotous pin cushions, but they are MORE BORING than the terms and conditions page of Itunes, as well as being way out of price range for normal people. TBH i dont want to spend the next 6 years paying off finance either.
Stupid question. How can somebody else know what is better for YOU? I guess youve never been sitting on a motor-bike. That would explain this question from a 12-years old quartet-player.
The World Crosser is nothing more than a regular Super Tenere with some bolt-on items put on at the factory. A GS Adventure has some bolt-on items as well, but it has a lower first gear and a larger fuel tank. Comparing the World Crosser to an GS Adventure is misleading.
Pitty it'll cost around £12,000 New bike prices are daft these days, I'll wait a couple years and get a good used one. Let someone else soak up the depreciation.
This appears to be a great bike, but these "Hummercycles" are all wonderfully manufactured machines. But really, for who? As someone who's been riding for over 40 years with tons of on and off road experience, I can attest to one thing: ar, Riding costs money. For the buck most people can afford, give me a DL650 abs or something similar - with a few farkles. With that, I'm off with a bit of change in my pocket to buy me more time and longer rides. My B$M$W day'$ are over; and good riddance!
i own a ktm 990 adventure, i i just find useless that they keep producing bigger and hevyer bikes for offroad adventure. i mean this shit is just way too heavy for offroad. i don get it. what we need is a 600 cc very light bike, with lots off hp, and a huge fuel tank. i mean wtf, whats next???? 400 kilos 2300 cc with a 2 gallon fuel tank?????? fuck this shit.
This is the only guy worth watching on MCN
Thanks for being so perfectly honest, to be perfectly honest.
But seriously, I like this reviewer.

You seem more like youngster Jeremy Burgess each time I watch you on the screen! Lovely video as always.
I have a 2012 Tenere, great bike. Did you know that Yamaha sells a low seat for the Tenere? Not sure how low it is, but maybe worth a look.
Does anyone remember the conceptbike of the XT660Z Tenere World Crosser with blue paint?
Sump protector very important IE the previous group test where the sump got broken at the very start of the test...
michael is a good reviewer imo
Wow ,STICKERS !!!
that looks like a very fun bike indeed
Thank you for clearing that up ,i did think he said pounds meaning weight ,not money ,funny it just didnt dawn on me : )

its a shame they havent given it a bigger fuel tank. I was realy hoping that this would be something available in the second generation bike :(
I got the parking lot crosser version
my dream bike... I hope not just dream :(
Great video do some supermoto reviewing!
Will it be available in the U.S.A? I like it :-)

I wish Yamaha could make a modern version of the yamaha xs1100 low weight better braking and more HP
i need XTZ 800 (twin motor) world crosser , please yamaha made it

Pitty I live in Brazil and here it costs around R$ 60,000 and we get R$ 600 per month

Beautiful!! good job ktm!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Top Bike!
Is this better than the BMW R1200GS?

WaterWorldPlanet As i said: you have bike experience from quartet-playing. First become adult, dumb child.
Ohh, thanks mate :) I just don't buy the paper usually because i am such a tight arse.
Yeah and it has the fraction of equipment aswell.
pound as in pound sterling, our currency, we use kilograms for weight

i don't understand how a bike with tyres like that can be ridden off road at all
Deep!
1:35 ---> akrophobic
a thousand pounds more!!! why is it so much heavier!!!!!???!!!
funny one :))
What are you, 12 years old?

Yea, street tires make no sense on an offroad version of the tenere. Just look at the r version of the ktm....they actually thought about it!🙄🙄🙄
that's not the tire you should use for cross
Steady cam dude. If you shoot with dslr it looks like you have Parkinsons

"Interesting" tire choice for an offroad bike.
ehmm much more? few plastic and stitckers = 10K ? lol
wtf has happened to bike prices now, its just gone stupid
that is illogical, although it does practically weigh 1000 pounds any way
Cables get in my way so I can't see the time lol
take a 1200 offroad.. you've got to be kidding me.
It weighs way too much as standard let alone with all the rubbish on, it's far too heavy
No.
for thousand pounds more I would put my own protection on & I don't like the stickers.
