I love flashlights and that includes headlamps. Being a gear tester for a bunch of companies (and an avid outdoor enthusiast), I've tried dozens and dozens of headlamps through the years. These are the 5 best headlamps that I seem to be grabbing the most in 2020 anyway. I'll talk about the features of the headlamps, and the pros and cons. Enjoy!

I bought the Biolite 330 and found that it fits perfectly in an old Oakley sunglass bag for storing when not in use.
I'm always in a ball cap. Thank you so much for adding the Capon to the list!
Gear Tuesday is on point. Love all the content you put out.
I love me some cool headlamps. My only one currently I have is an Olight like the one you showed in this video, but I love it. Hope to get more soon. Thanks for the awesome video! The beginning made me laugh 😂
😂 nice intro! Digging that Claymore cap on. Im A Fenix guy but that little cap on is unique in features and since I wear a hat like 364 days a year it speaks to me lol. Thanks for the recommendations of some cool illuminations👍
Love the gear Tuesday. The capon is cool. I’m going to check that one out. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Great review Mike! I like the claymore ones. Cant wait to see more.
Thanks for filming, need more latest bags reviews
Any particular bags you're curious about?
Intro was an A++
Snap On makes an awesome headlamp that detaches and has a super magnet that you can stick right on your vehicle 🚗
I love the Fenix and Olight lights. Own both brands and very happy with the quality. I have the Fenix PD35 Tac 2600mah lithium ion rechargeable with direct connection using micro USB into battery and it can use the CR123a batteries as back up. My O light rechargeable gun light uses same magnet for recharge as Olight Head lamp so it will be a good combo if I get the Olight head lamp since it can also use the CR123a batteries as back up. Thanks for video!
Brilliant thanks man
Can you make a video on your dometic fridge and how have it in the back seat of your Tacoma and how you power it ?
I love my Aussie Knog Bilby 400 lumens because of its small but sleek design, has medical grade silicon easily adjustable waterproof strap which you don't notice on your skin in any weather. It's way easier to adjust around your head. Has all the lighting modes you'd ever want but is programmable with its own app from your phone to personalise your preferred lighting modes. USB A plugs directly into PC to charge or power bank. Choice of colours. Weighs 90g.
My dad uses some pretty janky headlamps working around the farm. All of these would be an upgrade for him, but is there one in particular that you would say gives the greatest amount of light/visibility?
i use (ultralight)nitecore NU25 with nano elastic cord for replace original strap, like darwin on the trail headlamp. thats work very well. it just 33gr
Very informative. Good video.
Great review thanks 👍👍
Ive seen the light !!! Mine feels like a volkswagon parked on my head......Need to check out the biolite ones
Good video, keep them coming ✌
Thanks, will do!
i have an ozark trail 200 lumen head lamp and it says ipx4 so does that mean i can not wear it in heavy rain which makes no sense since im sure they must have this in mind when designing it to be used outdoors by campers and fishermen etc
I have a gearlight s2500 flashlight and an ozark trail headlamp from Walmart, I also subscribed just now.
Bro that opener was 100% mr. Rodgers style lmao love it!!!
I was thinking Bob Ross...🤣
@@joecerda630 that too!!!! Lmao
I'll take it,haha
Comical, just don’t over do it...
It was a little bit pervy
I use headlamps quite a bit for work, and although I have to wear them over a hard hat I’ve had really good luck with a Milwaukee headlamp and also we have a nightstick headlamp that works awesome.
If you like, I can give you headlamp experience for free
Can you replace the lithium bats in the Biolight 330 lamp?
so on the last one used for cap the only light adjustable is the red?
Just got the fenix hm65r-t. Liking it so far 😁
id like to see them make one with an intensity adjusting knob that you turn like a dimmer switch
What do you think about the petzl actik core?
Love that Capon 👍
Cool headlamps!👍
I actually love using headlamps when I’m cleaning my guns. It lets me see every nook and crevice of it
If you like, I can give you headlamp experience for free😉
Like that OLight.
Still take a Princeton Remix for the red light option.
I’ve used a red or blue dry erase marker to cover the lens. Works very well but be cautious it also comes off easily.
That intro made me uncomfortable
an uncomfortably comfortably comforting feeling
give princeton tek a try. made in usa. the "snap" is really versatile. is magnetic, so can stick to truck, also in addiiton to head band comes with housings for attaching to tubes (like bike handlebars), and a carabiner clip.
I have headlamp photos on my homepage, which can be sent to you for free😆😆
So I know this is over a year old, but got a question. So I work under my car a lot also. Aren't the lights with the battery packs in the rear, uncomfortable? What do you do about it?
I think there might be some where you can adjust the battery pack to the side of the headband or wear it somewhere else like belt loop or maybe suspenders lol.
Your audio is crisp, which mic do you use?
Anyone know where to find the Claymore Capon in Europe?
Been looking for a nice comprehensive review on headlamps so thanks! Just picked up the biolite 220! Have you tested any of their other lights like their Base Lanterns or SiteLight collections?
I use their sunlight, which I actually like a lot, but haven't tried many of their others.
Our headlights are also very easy to use, if you like, you can send it to you for free😊😊
Perfekt Video thank you.
Love the video However, I would like to have seen a demonstration in the outdoors, so we can have an idea as to how well these work to help improve our purchase decision.
The Olight is really nice. There's a lot of good headlamps out there and one of the most important parts of a headlamp is the headband. Fenix has a really good headlamp but I wouldn't have it if it was given to me because the headband is non replaceable. Heat and sweat are not friends of elastic so if you use the headlamp a lot you will eventually have to replace the headband.
Our headlights are also very easy to use, if you like, you can send it to you for free
Gear tuesdays!! 🤘
I see why you have so many subs. Great video
what's that jacket you are wearing at @0:45
Great vid love them all I love all gear so best edc shoes pants hats glasses all of thos videos would be great
Olight H2R 2300 lumes. Also Olight ARAY. Both awesome.
Yo.. what reversible jacket is that?
That hat one is really cool though.
Cool vid. Been a loyal subscriber for a few yrs but just saw this vid now. Thought i share us coon hunters have the best headlamps. Might be a over kill but 50x stronger than the one you're showing. I just ordered a new headlight helmet Micro Alpha Big Dog Light.
Great vid. Olight wins.
Which arcteryx jacket is that?
Try the fireflies pl47 gen 2. Awesome headlamp
Great Intel from real world use.
I'm between the Biolite options and 2 from Nite Core.
Any experience with any of the Nite Core headlamps?
I'm using Nitecore NU25 for more than a year and i love it. Very compact and lightweight. Very useful flood light, red light, and mainlight. Mostly used it around the house though
I have headlamp photos on my homepage, which can be sent to you for free
What's got the best focus and range in your opinion? I'm a esk8r and I have lights on the bottom of my board which give me ground visibility, but I want to take a headlamp and fix it it my helmet. (I'm going to be using strong velcro tape which is already affixed to my helmet and just fix the proper velcro to the other side. It's sturdy, I'm not worried about it staying on, I just want to see the road ahead when I'm riding at night so I don't eat it on a pot hole that, on a board, I'd consider a sink hole.
Good stuff man. For you and any others just make sure not to drown out the low light with your eye level light. My best setups skating and mountain biking are to have a much stronger light down low because the shadow angles show texture better. But of course a spotlight on the head is important too for looking to the sides (and potholes like you said). Red light in the back good idea too. I rig bike lights on top of my longboards with foam and zip ties - its a pain to set up but works great. Id be curious to know what you use.
If it helps for headlight, i use a bike helmet when skating so i can thread straps at an angle through the many large air holes. Bike lights like niterider have really good beam pattern and durability, but i can see how a headlamp with velcro would work better on a skate helmet! I might try that next so thanks for that tip
@@tedjohansen6535 hey ty. Could you inform me of what I measure I should be looking for. I know lumens isn't the best gauge
@@acekeianar Ya lumens are often lies, especially cheap foreign brands. Im spoiled on lumens with the fancy bike lights (850 on head), but id say at least 300 on the head if you can. Not sure what you have on the board. If youre going less than 15 mph you could probably do less.
Another thought, if you velcro a heavy light on the front of your helmet, it will probably make it tip forward. Id go for one with a rear battery pack to balance the weight.
Gear Tuesdays should be called Heyy Mikey, He likes it.
I'd include the black diamond flare
What about Swiss Tech mr?
I had many headlamps, nitecore and zebralight are great, but if I had to buy new one I will go with Fenix HM65R. I don't know why he did not include them... And if you need a lamp for long run, lamp that uses 18650 battery ist must have... And avoid Skillhunt, had bad expirience with them, they are not impact resistent.. but the Fenix, Zebralight and Nitecore are gret, had great expirience with them, all of them uses 18650, and I uses them on daily basis for my work..
why do you like the fenix hm65r best? which ones do you like around $50?
Thanks to you, my wallet is about $60 lighter. Can't wait for my olight.
I loved the capon but wish it were more rugged.
Our headlights are also very easy to use, if you like, you can send it to you for free🤗🤗
I wish some of the better quality headlamps would copy a feature found on cheap headlamps. Separate switches for white light and red. I don’t want to cycle through lots of settings to get a red light.
I feel like you have enough of a following to suggest they use usb-c. Micro usb is outdated and no longer the standard. I really like the size/weight but keeping a micro usb around for 1 or 2 items is not worth it. Nothing should be recommended if the company is not willing to keep up with usb-c. Thanks for the video as always great info and very informative.
Have you used Black Diamond? Just didn’t make your short list?
I have in the past, mostly back in my backpacking days, them and Petzl. None of their latest offerings have excited me too much - but I may need to take another browse through and see if they have anything new and exciting.
You can flip it do that the lantern is down too, in case your working on something.
As always, great vid. Although none of these jump out at me. I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for in a headlamp lol. Some of them definitely looked like the buttons would be difficult to use with gloves, I think that might be one of my priorities
Yeah the Biolite, Klarus, and Claymore lights definitely have buttons on the smaller size, and take a bit of dexterity to operate.
The Biolite is so comfortable you would forget you were wearing it. Absolutely love mine
I have headlamp photos on my homepage, which can be sent to you for free
Loved the intro! Honestly I didn’t want it to end!! 😎😎 I think we need the 20 minute directors cut intro!👍🏽👍🏽
Complete agreement on the cheesy intro...Lol...Love this new vid series...Still doing weekenderlander?? Peace
This is my ASMR.
Time to watch. :>
Headlamps are nice but headlamp brightness goes low, from what I noticed when I got for my runs 3 to 4 hour into the runs I get into the battery drains even with big brand name ones. I live in a very rural area of Alabama and lighting is important to me when I go running and cycling
I know the Klarus is geared towards runners
@@LastLineOfDefense I'll check into it thank you
I got the nu 35 best headlamp ever best for emergency situations. Long blackouts and hiking also good for maintenance work. I got a good floodlight no hotspots no beam. Check out nitecore nu35!! Must have!
I just enjoy using headlamps to go for my 3am runs while running in huaraches or barefooted raramuri style.
you're nuts, running at 3am?
I have headlamp photos on my homepage, which can be sent to you for free
No petzl headlamps made it? I just got one and it has pretty great light out put and rechargeable. Not bad price can get high. I got the actik core 450 lumens.
Justin Defazio he only reviews gear he gets for free and get paid on for affiliate sales. My guess is Petzl and Black Diamond didn’t meet that criteria.
Lol, salty boy. But no I used to primarily use petzl headlamps, but not many of them are natively rechargeable without removing the battery pack, so that's just an extra burden. I get them for free and everything has affiliate links, so that argument is entirely void, but good try!
@@LastLineOfDefense lol nice. Yeaa it is somewhat of pain to open back and plug in but way better then replacing the (3) AAA batteries each week from use. I ended up getting that hat visor one because of the cut off, so shall see how it goes
Oh, hey!
You need a MillerTech
Takes 2 hands to change a flat!😀
You must try Armytek they are the best and brightest
agree, have two of them
good video ifu can provide a little more about the run time .,even better
Been using the zipka's since their conception but maybe its time to get with the times. Really would miss the compactability though, don't mean to be promoting a product your not promoting though.
Oh hey, didn't see you there ...
Gotta say I was disappointed there was no carbide lamp. It’s either that or a Black Diamond Storm in my book.
Yeah I just favor rechargeable lights these days, vs aaa lights of past.
Last Line Of Defense just curious why do you go rechargeables? My thinking is a AAA model is easier to toss in. Kinda like gas cars vs electric. Fill up and go. Rechargeables also generally have much higher self discharge rates than say Alkaline AAA.
Yeah pros and cons. If it were a go pack or stored for long periods of time, the AAA options are good, but for regular use, they are just more wasteful and/or burdensome.
I hauled oil on night shift for almost 5 years driving a tanker truck. South Texas, West Texas oil fields and some work in New Mexico. Darkness, working alone in very remote areas 70 hrs a week. Found replacing AAA got tiresome and expensive. Found Cree headlamp, rechargeable batteries. Bought extra batteries and separate charger. Full charge lasted days, could also plug battery pack into micro usb in between loads. Had the lamp screwed into the hard hat. That light was incredible! 1600 lumens and on wide would light up three 15 ft tall, 500 barrel oil storage tanks side by side. Used in the rain. Only replaced it once. 16/17 bucks. Had to be careful buying batteries though. Lots of knock offs for sale. Could be cumbersome to wear for camping or running though understandably.
Since then, different job now moving oil field equipment I've used an Energizer headlamp 3AAA. Rarely need it. So like you say, changing batteries isn't a big deal as it stays in my bag most of the time.
I'm in the market now for different reasons and your reviews have been a huge help. Thank you
Nice vid mate 👍 like the look of the biolites . . . . . My go to for a long time has been the LED Lenser MH10 Rechargeable Headlamp Black
Awesome light worth a look!
Thanks, but your links are not specific. They just send you to a general page of the manufacturer.
Uh-oh, somebody hide my credit card. I have a headlamp problem. 😬
Need burn time and price
Nitecore NU32 is a really nice headlamp. Bright, waterproof, rechargeable, red light and long burn time between charges.
I wonder what Ashley would look like wearing it
uh, the same as she always looks, but with a headlamp on.
Check out Ay-Up headtorch. Dual beams and it looks like a freight train coming down the trail.
I'll check em out!
Damn, those Capons are pretty much all gone from Amazon
I have headlamp photos on my homepage, which can be sent to you for free
It’s not bad...it’s not bad...........AT ALL!!!
So only one with usb c daaammit
Hi how you doin'
LOL
First! LOve the videos!
lol a little zenny
Bro, you sound like you smoked a hog leg before filming this video 😤😃⛺
No Petzl? I don’t buy anything else...
I used to use them more in the past, they make great headlamps. I've found myself lately favoring easily rechargeable options though.
Most American use Branded goods.
I wouldn't mind using a headlight if it came with 8 LEDs with a red mode
Petzel tactikka rgb 350 3AAA bateries my recomendation
Yeah I just don't like lights these days that aren't natively rechargeable - IE, not designed to just plug a cable into them.
@@LastLineOfDefense Funny, I came down to the comments to specifically ask what was up with having only rechargeable lights. How many recharge cycles are you going to get out of those lights? SHTF scenario: years after these 5 lights are dead, Petzel owners will still be swapping out removable batteries from their stockpile. I get rechargeable and removable because I don't like throwing away batteries as often, but throwing away a whole headlamp is just planned obsolescence.
AAA has to be the crappiest garbage battery format ever invented
@@warrenphilips8441 I think the same way my petzl has passed 500 battery changes if it was rechargeable it was in the trash
@@HarryKuloh cr123 the best format
I turn my hat backwards for my headlamps. Simple fix
