      Thank you! We actually have an exclusive tutorial from our new business, Laser Design Club ( www.laserdesignclub.com ). We offer courses, tutorials, 10 monthly files, supplier discounts and more (including a lake map tutorial from one of our featured contributors). The tutorial is done mostly through Adobe Illustrator but I will also be doing a lake map tutorial on Inkscape which will be released at the end of September, only included within our membership for Laser Design Club.

    I’ve actually been designing the subsequent layers with alignment holes, allowing me to cutout multiple layers from 1 sheet. So with a 10 layer project I only use about 3 sheets on wood.👍🏼

    I make maps for a living (2 GIS degrees) and I must say, this is why I got into laser cutting. I wanted to take my map making skills to another level.
    A legend (map key) showing the depth elevations for each layer (colors) would be a great addition to this.
    Beautiful work! (and is that some Khruangbin playing in the video?) :)

    Very nice project of the lake map with depth. What works for me, but requires I use more paint since I make a mess with paint is I paint the blank piece first then cut it on the laser this way I don't have to worry about getting paint on the lasered edges. I see you have a steady hand so painting after actually requires the use of less paint. Thanks, Dan

    • @85thandPine
      @85thandPine  2 роки тому

      Thanks Dan! Your method is definitely a good way to keep the clean edges! I’ve done that on previous projects but for this one decided not to. Thanks for the input!

      Any paint that goes over the edge can be fixed with a black sharpie or black paint pen

      We think it looks nice sitting on a table/countertop since it can support itself. Hanging it on a wall would look good too in my opinion!

    I’d like to make one of an area lake but where did you get the topographical map? Or is that a file you purchased?

    • @85thandPine
      @85thandPine  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Marcie, you can try out openseamap.org which gives you access to maps. But you could also try browsing the lake you want and search for depths (ex: Lake Michigan depth map) and if you find an image showing the depths, you can then trace it in an editing software program like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator to give you the layers you need.

    • @jessicahitchcock4562
      @jessicahitchcock4562 2 роки тому +1

      I love to use snazzymaps, you can set your attributes to as few or as many as you like, along with the contrast for easy tracing! Took me a few tries to get it down but now I make maps all the time!

    Can I ask how much you would sell a complete product like this for? Also, how do you finish the edges?

    • @85thandPine
      @85thandPine  Рік тому +1

      I would sell mine for around $125 due to the time it takes. I left the edges raw but you can use a power sander to make them more even!
