After owning the 35 watt XTC for a year I went back to the 101B. 35 watt did not cut it with a loud drummer for me. I like the sound of the 101B as well. This was all before the 50 watt came out though. I suspect I would like as well.
Thank you so much for doing an in-depth comparison of these two lovely versions of an amazing amplifier! It's key for those of us that don't have nearby access to try these amps out. Personally, although I love both versions, the 35 watt sounded slightly better to my ears and speakers :) The slight extra bite and upper-mids spoke to me. Cheers!
Most of the commentaries in the forums point out that the 50w is an upgrade to the 35w and more similar to the 100w version. However, I found myself liking the 35w version more in this video. As a 35w owner I do love it however, the third channel is indeed quite gainy, I never go beyond 11 o clock, an I do like heavy tones from time to time.
I talked to Reinhold about that. The 50 is definitely not an upgrade to an inferior amp. The 35 was intended to be more compressed and more hard rock / metal. The 50 was supposed to be less compressed a little less metal, more classic (if you will). So, it's just ends up being two different colors of the same platform, rather than an upgrade per se
this is the exact video I needed. I made a comment about the upper mids and the "honk" i got on the 35 watt that I couldnt dial out. I can hear a a difference on where the mid sits - I much prefer that 50. Thank you again for being the best tone on youtube.

reinhold put a lot of gain on the red channel. so much that i had jorg actually do a mod to cut the gain in the red channel before i took the amp home. i agree...too much gain in the stock configuration. i run the red channel as purely a lead solo channel and even after the gain REDUCTION, i run the red gain at 1:30/2:00 with the boost OFF, and that's plenty.

Hi Mike. Congratulations on your videos, they are very good, you are a great guitarist, with very good taste in composing, I loved the intros you made in the videos of the Bogner 3534 50watts, Soldano SLO30, Strandberg guitar and Friedman BE100. You should make whole songs out of it and put it on some instrumental record. I would buy it without a doubt. I have some doubts Mike with these Bogners. Does the 35watt version have the new loop fx Op amps or is it the old loop fx Mosfet? Is there a difference in noise, hiss, hum, between the 50watt version and the 35watt version with the same gain level set on both? Noise differences with the loop fx activated or deactivated? Thank you so much. Greetings.
I have this 50 watts too. AMAZING amp but the only downside is that Ch 1 is extremely clean and even with its Gain at Max, it doesn’t break up, not even a hint of hair nor overdrive in Ch 1. The Blue Channel is very Open but still low-mid focused. Not so much Gain in Blue Channel. The Red Channel has more gain of course but a bit more bassy than Blue Channel. The Boost bottom for Ch2 and Ch 3 adds bite and body and is perfect for solos. The 50 watts sounds more tube like amp. Like ready for big action. The 35watts is brighter, compressed but to my ears the 35 watts sounds like solid state. But both amazing. My favorite amps now are: Marshall JVM 410H and now this Ecstasy 50 watts.
Interesting. I LOVE the ch1 on the 50w because it breaks up. It’s a bit like the 100w Plexi mode. It’s loud but breaks up nicely (on mine). The 35w clean never broke up for me. Super clean.
@@BigHairyGuitars pretty weird that your 50W breaks up in Ch 1. Most of reviews say it doesn’t break up in Ch 1 like Plexi. However, it may be related to your playing. You are a very talented and more experienced than me. Michael can grab an out of tune $100 child guitar and makes it sound like Steve Vai! Please, could you share with us your knobs settings for a beautiful Ch 1 break up like a soft overdrive in Ch 1?. Or a video showing us the versatility of this wonderful Ecstasy 50 W using different knobs settings? I love your channel and playing. Keep rocking my friend!
Mike I love your videos and you have done a good job but I don't agree with the ideal settings you have made, in the 35 watt model. Jorg from Bogner amps recommeds that it is better to increase the channel volumes between 12:00 and 14:00 or higher without overloading it, so that the amplifier sounds louder and also improves the signal-to-noise ratio and use the fx loop volume as the master volume for all channels. And do not increase the gain so much on the red channel. I hope you don't get angry. I would like to comment on my impressions of these two amplifiers. I have the 35 watt model and I was having doubts about the 50 watt model. I had read on internet forums that some owners had had both and preferred the 35 watt one. After seeing this comparison, I think they were right, for me the 35 watt one sounds much better. On the green channel the two sound very close in this video. But to be honest, they both sound a little sterile to me, (Could it be because of the single coils on the guitar?) I know that's not the case because I have the 35 watt one and it sounds super warm and full, dynamic. This video doesn't do justice to the great clean channel they have. The blue channel sounds much better to me on the 35 watt channel, fuller, with more meat, without those harsh upper mids that the 50 watt channel has. The 50 watt red channel seems not to have enough gain, with the gain at 3:00 p.m. you have needed to add the boost, or set the gain to maximum to be able to play Hard rock, Metal styles. In the red channel of the 35watts I don't see that this clip does it justice either, I think it is because the gain has been set very high and putting this channel at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. is excessive, the optimal gain point is between 12:00 and 13:00 hours, you get enough gain for Hard Rock, Metal while preserving chord definition and articulation, and without excessive hiss noise, you also get the benefit of if you later add the boost, the added gain is not excessive, it is a great channel and justice has not been done in this clip. Also I don't understand why it has such a metallic and tight sound in the red channel, that doesn't happen in mine, it sounds much more rounded, full and spongy if you like, using the excursion in Loose or Deep. On the other hand, Switches B1 and B2 at 35 watts, to be honest, can make them sound very bright depending on how they are used. I imagine that Reinold created them so high to compensate for the great loss of highs when setting the Excursion to Deep? I normally put those switches in the middle and only use them when I put the excursion in Deep and EQ the treble button, it sounds good like that. Also Excursion in Deep, removes part of the Hiss that adds B1 and B2. Finally, comment that the compression, gain, sustain that the 35 watt model has is necessary especially at high volumes, when that extra gain, compression, sustain, helps it have an easier feeling to play, and obtain fantastic liquid lead tones, but that compression does not make it a less dynamic amplifier, it reacts very good at the attack of the pick and when lowering the volume of the guitar. It is a very versatile amplifier and you can play any style very well. I made a demo of this amplifier recorded with an iPhone, the audio quality is not comparable, but I try to demonstrate the versatility, dynamics, and how the three channels sound, the boost activated, different gain levels on each channel etc. I put the link to the video in case anyone wants to see it. ua-cam.com/video/9ge0VoT-6Jc/v-deo.htmlsi=Ft3GGO5DwcV30lcT It would be great Mike if you could do a more in-depth review of the 35 watt model like you did with the 50 watt one. It's a great amplifier. Greetings
50W for me, but that's because I always preferred the Ecstasy Classic over the 101B. I don't mind the more modern, compressed sound of the 35W, but it isn't as flexible to my ears. It seems harder to dial in for a cover band if you want to get some of the 70s rock vibe.
@firstname9440 Yes, you are correct and scooped was perhaps a poor way of putting it. I've edited my original post. The lower-mids and highs seem to be pushed more on the original 3534 35W model, giving me what I would call more of a "scooped" feeling compared to the 50W, which seems more mid-focused (kind of focused somewhere in between those pushed frequencies of the 35W). The 35W version is also a bit more compressed in feel, especially on the red channel. If you like that 90's Ecstasy sound, you will probably want the 35W version. If you want a more vintage, Marshall leaning Ecstasy - similar to the original Ecstasy Classic which I owned years ago - then the 50W version is the way to go.
@firstname9440 I've never owned an Orange, but I have played through one or two at some point in my life. Didn't ever try the Rockerverb. The 50W Ecstasy sounds like it wouldn't be redundant with the Rockerverb based on your description, or maybe even the newly released Bogner JB45, which has even MORE Plexi tones on board. Can you get in the ballpark of those 90s Alice in chains tones with the Rockerverb? The Ecstasy 35W isn't a perfect match for that, but it is in that ballpark. Cantrell was known to use the Fish preamp for those albums.
Love the tones you're getting out of that Shabat T-type! Is that a one-off custom order? I need to get one of those in a relic black. I prefer the sounds you're getting out of the 35watt. Love your channel and work.

I have to ask this.. I had friedman be50/100 dlx and also JJ100. it seems from your video that those smaller bogners are quite undergained, compared to those mentioned friedmans. even when I compare your be50dlx video to this one, same thing. seems like xtc50 on red ch. with gain dimed has less gain than be50dlx with BE ch. gain dimed - that part right there, where you switch from strat to your LP. then on dlx you still have another gain stage with HBE and then SAT switch for even more. Curious to know your opinion.. maybe this impression is only under the mic and totally different in your room ?

My problem is that mainly that the low end isn't very punchy at all and it sounds kinda anemic overall. Maybe I'm just not turning it up loud enough? but idk I got it as loud as I can within reason so idk.
The Bogner 2x12 is a nice sounding cab, but tight and punchy. These amps definitely like to have a little bit of volume going. Perhaps try thinking of the midrange knob as almost a treble knob. Lowering the mids, might help shift the tonal spectrum into a lower range so you feel the bottom end more. I hope that helps

Thanks so much! It's essentially a one off. Custom shaped neck and specs. If you ask them for Michael Nielsen spec, they'll know what you're talking about though. I'm buddies with them.
@@BigHairyGuitars Thanks Mike, I'll seriously look into that. That would be an awesome gift to me from my wife for Valentines Day :) !
@@gsauce132able I 100% AGREE! 🤘😎
Oh crap it’s January, NAMM new release season. I’m never going to financially recover. SLO 30 and JEL 20 in November now Bogner I’m pretty sure drugs would be cheaper 😂
They both sound insane.
After listening carefully to both, I prefer the Bogner
Both great amps, but I would go with the 50w.
My 3534 sounds amazing, but it has some noises on red channel when you use the efforts loop.
Great demo. If you happen to see this, what do you think of the 3534 (either wattage) vs the pink taco v2? Trying to decide.
If 1 channel is OK with you, grab a Taco. If you need 3 channels and can pay the extra, grab one of the 3534.
Thanks dude. I do dig the rawness of the PT. The 3534 is nice but the PT does its one thing insanely well.@@BigHairyGuitars
I’ll take the 35 😊
I like more the 50wts. (I've a 100wts xtc classic which I love).
thanks. i have the 35 and have been looking at the 50. i dig both but 50 is woodier and chewier. might have to hit up jorg and get one. :)
you rock.
Hi John. Do you notice on the 35w that ch1 is super clean, and doesn’t break up? The 50w breaks up so nicely, I was surprised that the 35 was so clean
@@BigHairyGuitars yeah, michael...the 35 watt clean is super clean, and i love it for that fendery thing. i can honestly get better clean sounds from the 3534 35-watter than the 101B i had or the 100A i had.
i would love to try that 50-watter. time to bug jorg and reinhold. maybe they got one in the shop i can borrow and take home.
thanks again as always. your content is killer. if you are into burgers, drop by my truck sometime. burgers on me.
@@johnou9001 THANKS! What's your truck called? I'm still undecided which Bogner to buy. I LOVE the 50w. But I LOVE the 101B, and I'm SUPER interested in the Pandora Mod Ecstasy, AND I LOVE the new 45w JB that's now out yet. UGH. I'm going to have to start a serious Bogner payment plan! haha
@@BigHairyGuitarsit's called the fix on wheels.
yeah, i know the feeling re bogners.
Wow, I prefer the 35W by a huge margin!
So One of each
Yes
I have a 101b and i'll never sell it. Sounds unreal. Anyone that says they sound like a blanket is over the speaker never learned how to adjust the toggles
He really needs to do something about the prices.
As a character, Bogner is already kind of that you have to like his amps too.
I would love an Uber Ultra 35w…
I got the 35w but I can't get it to sound nearly as good as it does in this video, I mean it doesn't sound bad but not close to as good as it sounds in this video and some others I've heard. I'm playing through the Bogner 2x12OS cab with a wgs et65 and a v30 in it. Do you have any recommendations? My problem is that mainly that the low end isn't very punchy at all and it sounds kinda anemic overall. Maybe I'm just not turning it up loud enough? but idk I got it as loud as I can within reason so idk.
The Bogner 2x12 is a nice sounding cab, but tight and punchy. These amps definitely like to have a little bit of volume going. Perhaps try thinking of the midrange knob as almost a treble knob. Lowering the mids, might help shift the tonal spectrum into a lower range so you feel the bottom end more. I hope that helps
@@BigHairyGuitars I will try that, thanks
OH OH another thing. You have any insight on the Bogner Helios JB45?
It’s A W E S O M E !!! I love it SO much!
Despite what I show on the channel, I mostly play low gain amps at home. This is right in my sweet spot. I’m hoping to get to making my vid on it soon!
God I love Bogner amps
More MIchael Nielsen is always better... The wattage is more a preference..
Ha! Too kind!
I HAD THE 35 WATT and it sounded nothing like my 101b.. Nothing, so I sold it
I don't disagree with you. The 35 is the most different from any of the 100w variations. The 50 is closer. I can match the 101B decently close.
@@BigHairyGuitars Thats good to know, because the 101B is phenomenal
@@paisteplayer1040 yeah I think the 101B is a benchmark amp for tone. The Ch1 on 50w is as good or better, but I miss the plexi mode.
@@BigHairyGuitars I sold my 101b several years ago when we moved, havent replaced it.. I now have a Friedman be-50 deluxe into friedman be-412 and love it
@@paisteplayer1040 that's a pretty great alternative! Love that too!
Saludos
what color is the current boost?
@@Eltonx38 Orange
Could you help me, my amp has that noise problem in the loop and Bogner doesn't give me a solution. Could you give me details of when the verse is known to be a problem and if it is also 35w
@@Eltonx38 Creo que hablas Español? Mas facil para hablar. Que color del boost tienes? Que tipo de ruido hace? Que conectas al bucle? Haces método 4cm? Saludos
Great playing as always Michael! OK, here's the $1MM question. Soldano Astro 20, Friedman JEL 20 or the Bogner 3534 35 watt? All three have really piqued my interest, but I can't even justify getting one with the Marshalls and EVH that I have. I need help lol 😵💫
Astro 20, Friedman Pink Taco 2, and 3534 50w , and BE100, BadCat Jet Black, and tone King Imperial.
Easy 🤣

35W is a beast...
I like these amps, but I don't really hear the 'Ecstasy' tone in regards to the Red channel. I've played the 3534 a few times and it just doesn't sound like my 101b, it actually sounds a lot like my Shiva. The 100 watt Ecstasy have this saturation and low mid warmth and chew which I don't hear in these. I've heard people say these compare more to the 20th Anniversary then other Ecstasy models.
Michael, having owned several Ecstasy amps now and some other Bogner's amps/pre, which is your favorite overall? (uber?)
The 101b is my favorite, I also love the 50w. There's also a new mid gain amp in the works that I'm totally in love with. I hope that comes out this year.
Cool! 101b is amazing. Looking forward to the new amp@@BigHairyGuitars
@@BigHairyGuitarsCould I ask how many watt has the new Bogner project? Less than 50 or more than 50? Thanks
40-50ish @@francesco0185
@@BigHairyGuitars when you say mid-gain amp, are you referring to less gain than this Ecstasy 50W or more gain than this Ecstasy 50W??
I'm going 50 watt on this one . Sometimes less is more .
In my experience, more watts is usually better lol but I like loto more because wattage amps too.
yeaaah
There amps and pedals are great, but their customer service sucks!!! They should have a proper website and team to deal with complaints!
They’re a small company, have you tried calling over to them?
35 watt sounds better to my ears..

@5:05 Why does he always have this look of a 4th. grader about to get into a fight ??
Bought both! 50 is the far superior amp to me. I’m actually blown away how good it is! My dream amp sound. The 35 went back
Your guitar is upside down.
fuzzy and harsh never liked bogner
What are your favourite amps?
Interesting. I’ve never heard Bogner as harsh. Fuzzy… sometimes.
really? to my ears, Bogner are antonym of harsh and fussy. Bogners are like a well behaved Marshall in tuxedo drinking a $10,000 fine red wine in a $5 Billion farm in Italy.
The 35 sounds like a fart and the 50 sounds like a wet fart.
