  • Our family is getting out of the office, out of the classroom, and out of the bubble to explore the beauty of the world in-person, from its people, history and geography to its architecture, food and culture.
We’re on a quest to experience 110 distinct cultures across all 7 continents by the summer of 2025, when our oldest, Reagan, heads off to college and our two youngest, Brooklyn and Colt, begin in-person high school.
Our semi-nomadic family lifestyle isn't all peaches and cream. In this episode, we dive into some of the biggest challenges related to our constant travel and how our kids feel about the journey.

    0:00 Introduction
1:42 How does Reagan feel about our travel lifestyle?
4:26 What part of traveling with our kids are we embarrassed or ashamed of?
7:12 How does Brooklyn feel about our travel lifestyle?
9:59 How much more does it cost to travel with kids than without?
13:17 How do the kids maintain friendships/hobbies while traveling?
14:26 How does Colt feel about our travel lifestyle?
15:57 What’s the best part about traveling with kids?
17:29 What are the kids’ most and least favorite places to travel?
18:55 Do you ever fantasize about traveling without kids?
21:08 What's the worst part of traveling with kids?
21:41 What’s our worst travel experience so far?
25:12 Are you 100% sure this lifestyle is actually better for our kids?

    ABOUT US.
We’re the Lockwoods: a family with 3 kids, 5 careers, and endless passion for adventure. Two years ago, we decided it was time for Phil's ad agency to abandon the in-person, 5-day workweek. So they 86’d the office and work hours, allowing our own family to start traveling almost constantly. We now work, school, and explore in a different place every week-from our own mountain and beach homes to exotic villas, resorts, and yachts around the world. As we experience and support diverse cultures, we hope to inspire more families to design a life of freedom and adventure.
Because there’s a new American Dream. It’s one that’s void of templated expectations, templated career paths, templated education, templated families, templated homes, and templated lives. Freedom is no longer an American tagline-it’s just the new, global way of life.
Every day that you spend doing something that doesn’t fulfill you to your core, you’re living your life on pause. You’re deferring genuine family time with no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow or a someday. Some people follow that mentality their entire lives. We’ve chosen to never live that way again.
We appreciate you following our journey. The more our channel grows, the more time we can spend traveling to more locations, contributing to these cultures, highlighting local businesses, and sharing inspiring stories from these communities. So please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing so that you can stick with us for the long haul.

If I was still a kid, I would be so happy traveling and exploring the world and experiencing new culture. I love watching your family bonding together. I love Brooklyn the most, but Colt reminds me of myself when I was younger.

You're living the life that I wanted for my family but couldn't do due to financial consideration.
Like you, I believe that travel is essential for the growth of the kids. It opens their eyes to new experiences and other culture. My son for instance, never thought of living/working abroad until he saw how wonderful other countries are like japan, new zealand, singapore, taiwan, south korea, etc.
And yes, we too couldn't leave our children behind although they are now adults. It's simply more enjoyable to travel with the whole family despite the cost. I do the planning for our trips and seeing the joy that my family gets out of it is worth all the effort.
So keep on traveling and sharing your experiences with us. We're here to support you!

We're definitely fortunate in that we can afford to travel like this, although it's not easy. We're not cashing out our retirement accounts or anything but the costs pretty much have us living paycheck to paycheck otherwise. So many flights for so much family, plus the costs of lodging, food, ground transportation, experiences, and so on. It's a very challenging budget, but one we hope will become easier to support as our channel grows. The struggle is worth it considering the benefits to our family and the children, as you've noted.
Hopefully you can still get your travel fix now that your kids are adults (and maybe they can pay their own way ;) so please keep us posted. Maybe our paths will cross at some point. In the meantime, thank you for your support and for commenting ❤️❤️

🙏Thank you very much for sharing your travel adventures and answering questions from your fans. My wife and I enjoy your videos. With that being said, I grew up poor in the far east and not until coming to the USA I was able to improve my life immensely.
In my humble opinion, for many folks they can only dream what you guys have in life. Reagan, all I can say to you is to spend time with your family as much as you can because times flies. My mom left us when I was 5 years old and my Dad left us when I was 11 years old. Cherish every moment with them, because once that time is gone you'll never get it back. I never had the opportunity to know my family, and it's not by choice they just simply left us after divorce. Living with grandparents is not the same as your core family.

husband here trying to get in as many shows before we leave on the 26th. Our son's lifting story. At age 3 he was always interested in Bruce Lee movies, ( Bruce and Brandon are
buried next to each other in Seattle, on Capital Hill ) For his 7th BD, I signed him up for Tae Kwon Do. I took him 3x a week for two months then I also started the class. I was 49 at
this time. After 4 years we both earned our black belts. Ryan went on to karate for a year and kick boxing for a year. In high school, he was dip king for all 4 years. ( pushing yourself
up on parallel bars, up, down, up etc. In College he set two state records for benching and dead lift. After college he was dating a girl who was a cross fit trainer. Ryan wanted to set
the world record for the dead lift which would have been 920 lbs. for his age of 26. He was up to 800 lbs and they broke up. Mom was happy in that he lost interest in the world record.
Ryan is 5'8" and has his own gym set up in his garage. No more world record goals though. It is nice that both of you can get in some exercise between meals. lol

Our recent video, day in the life, shares a little bit about that. But since you’re international you can look into Ignite. I’ve heard good things about it and it’s similar to the program our kids are in. It’s a private online school but the tuition seems very reasonable to us.

Brooklyn is an aesthete... so I know devotee's relish the culture of places like Italy of course, New York's with its Metropolitan museum of art... and a host of art galleries in the Manhattan... when she grows up I'm sure she'll be visiting New York more often and Italy. the word aesthete I had to actually look up and hear the way to pronounce it from a recording...
