Honestly, retro in kpop is on my top 3 concepts and is no 2 just behind elegant.
Like, K-pop does it SO WELL. It's actually amazing. I thought I would get tired of it but no, many of them age like fine wine for me honestly.
Though I can 100% see why people are tired of it. It was EVERYWHERE in 2020 and when I say everywhere, I mean it so it's pretty understandable. I'm still surprised it on my top 3 considering how much of it there was but oh well, not that I'm complaining

i will never stfu abt how much i love the dark fantasy/royal concept in kpop.
Literally. No mainstream pop artist does it actually. It showcases the skill of the idols, is not that common and takes you to another world. When it comes to #vibes, no concept can beat summer and fantasy/dark.

The only position I really disagree is with Retro concept.I can't understand the hate. It is always fun and interesting to see how each group/artist will make it with their style! Personally I'm a 80's lover so...

Retro is so boring and repeative imo. Some songs are good on first listen but get annoyingly boring after a while. But girlgrush done well is great

Get it Pristin V is one of the girl crush song that is my favorite but didn't get any recognition. That could've be on top if pledis promoted it better! If it's given to a more famous group, it will be a hit for sure.
personally, i think one of the PEAK of elegant concepts was Astro's All Night.. something truly shifted in the industry with the release of that one
I think kpop really stand out because of the fun / quirky + bubble gum concept, soo I completely agree with putting these concept on top

Quirky is peak kpop imo. It’s at one of the boundaries of musical creativity (I hesitate to say *the* apex if creativity but it’s so good) and while some of them are hard sells, songs like Zimzalabim and TANK are phenomenal. Also I feel like red velvet are highkey the concept queens. They’ve done so many and their lead singles are almost always some of the best songs in a given concept. I feel the same way abt Billlie but they’ve only had 3 EP’s so I’m excited to see where they go in coming years.
For me, I like Space, Fantasy, Dark, Sci-Fi & Elegant.

everything said here is highly subjective and hence i hv only one conclusion - if the idols can deliver, no matter what concept we gonna eat up the song.

I was so shocked and gasped when elast came on... they're pretty underrated but their vocals are just TOP TIER.
• Dark concepts ultimately reminds me of Infinite with (BTD, Be mine, Paradise, Bad, Back, Destiny)
• TVXQ, BAP, MonstaX masters hardcore badass concepts
• Old bigbang songs are the definite definition of emo, newer emo concepts are just cringey nowadays
• Wjsn discography dominates fantasy/magical/cosmic/space concepts the most
• Sentimental is god tier concept
• Seventeen has mastered all concept

Weki Meki definitately does it better for me in the teen crush department and they didn't grow out of it either which I commend. i feel like the teen crush concept can be a lot like the hiphop concept where they do it for a little and then switch it up but weki meki continues to release bops in the teen crush department every time
The biggest issue about Sexy concept in GG is most of people don't comfort to be sexy most of they are force to be, the core of concept is sexy for other but the good one (and make it work) is they happy to be sexy and confident to show it + they make this concept very dirty, it can be Sexy+Elegant like AOA , Sexy+Summer like Sistar , Sexy+Cool like 4min , Sexy can pare with any concept even Quirky if the company have a good taste and vision but most of the company force them to be over or extremely sexy like in gen 2.5, sexy don't mean show your skin more, you can cover from head to toe but still being sexy more over this Concept don't have any issue (if the member over 18) in BB but in GG it have a lot of issue like "sexual objectify (when it happen both male and female but it ok with sexual objectify in male?), age of the member (even mature age member have a black lash for being sexy or wear review skin clothing) , censorship on GG is harder than BB " etc.. so it will be hard to revive this concept to be on main stream again (with do it right)

all aside i learned a ton of good songs here:)
BTS were never said to follow a particular concept, they have all sorts of songs and its not that they have changed the concept, they can produce mutiple songs of different concepts at the same time. thats why their discography is diverse and fun to listen

I think one you left out was "powerful, strong" like a lot of Stray Kid's songs like God's Menu & Thunderous & "anthem/stadium" like 2ne1's I Am The Best concepts. But those are just my opinions! Honestly there are probably a ton missing, but it's a good start. Although my opinions on ranking are mostly the complete opposite of yours. 😂 I live for the badass, sexy, hip hop & sci-fi/cyber punk genres. I also just don't care much about bubblegum, elegant, sentimental & school girl concepts. I do agree though that girl crush is exhausted - & dark, quirky, & fantasy are all great!

i understand your point and i feel like it' generally misunderstood anyways but emo doesn't mean emotional or heartbreaking lol. emo is a subculture of music style and fashion. loserlover is definitely emo and 0x1=lovesong is also but the rest of your examples idk. shoot me may be an emo song but the styling isnt emo, and vice versa for if you do. crooked just isnt emo at all lol. for reference i am emo and have participated in the fashion and music for years, if you want accurate reference for emo- avril lavigne, my chemical romance, and paramore are some of the best examples i can think of! much love.
edit: just to clarify i meant that emotional/heartbreaking isn't the ENTIRE meaning of emo. it's definitely a part but there's much more to it than that.

Summer,retro,dark and cute concepts will always have my heart in summer concept i think DUMBi DUMBi by (G)I-DLE is my favorite, i love literally every retro song- in dark i think because by dreamcatcher is the best in cute i think signal by twice and TT by twice .❤❤

Omg please check out ONF they are a great example for the sci-fi/spacy and quirky/fun concepts and they've been doing it since 2017.
I just hate it when groups are forced to have a concept their not comfortable or doesn’t suit well and they just have that concept because it’s “popular”. In these cases, I feel like it’s old people who try to connect with teens who decide the concepts and instead of doing a concept that would enhance the charms of the group, they give their artists the complete opposites, and even look foolish on stage.

retro concepts will always be my favourite, extremely upset that they were a trend in 2020 and got overdone but the good examples stay superior
you know what... there is a difference between the Dark concept and the "DREAMCATCHER" concept... Deukae is a concept of its own... but I can agree with this, no one pulls it off better than them

1.Loona's concepts (their concepts are my favourite concept ever!!)
2.BTS's concepts (I love the confidence and the self-love in their concepts)
3.Itzy's concepts (I love the strong message behind their lyrics 😭)
Sentimental concepts are just chef's kiss. Just something that I enjoy so much, I know a lot of people don't like it (just like balad's), but everytime i want to get into a group I always search if they have "sad, sentimental, emotional" songs. If they have I'm in. Missing you will probably will always be my fav out of sentimentals.
