This wasn't a masterpiece, it was a crazy car with crazy drivers inside. All those group B car brands got blood on their hands because of their fame thirst.
I'm in no way biased towards a specific manufacturer, but I honestly have never seen anything perform as consistently as the Lancia Delta S4. The grip, acceleration, and speed it carrys through corners is very impressive.

BUT NOT the true spirit which made rallying to a great experience, and which made many people happy and satisfied. According to my point of view many past rally events have shown that this sport can also be spectacular and worth seeing without cars with more than 400 HP and four wheel drive. 350 HP should be the limit for 4WD-cars; GT-Cars with rear wheel drive could have a bit more engine power, because of me. I have often noticed that a great style of cars and good rally action does not depend on the engine power level. Contrary to this, the fights on the tracks are more exciting when many cars have approximately the same power. And when engine power is unlimited, the differences between the cars are too great to create attractive sport actions. Let's shape the future of rallying!

And did you know that the start stage of rally finland Harju was nor driven in many years because someone in the group b era drove to a tree and died. This was told to me by my father who was there to witness the group b madness and was also mentioned when the stage was driven again a couple of years ago.
me to , its my absolute dream to drive or ride along in an s4 , i once had the pleasure to ride around the block as a passenger in a evo 2 when i was in italy on a vacation with friends , neighbour of the house we rented happened to have a delta evo 2 (and speak decent english) and we talked about how much of a legend and a shitty rebadged fiat 500 crossed with an opel corsa it is today.... (he offered me to drive myself but i was to afraid to crash it beceause i drive an automatic for 4 years now , so he drove ) the guy even said , mate this delta is just a baby compared to the S4 xD my mates were like : (when i saw the delta ) dude this is just an italian wannabe golf mk2 u nerd ...well , watch group b and u will see why im this hyped i said ;) if lancia do decide to not to cross fiat 500 with a corsa anymore and make a delta that looks like the S4 or integrale's i would hapilly buy one :) wouldn't even mind if it only makes like 90hp
A true supercar that transcends generations. As a kid i had a poster of one of these on my bedroom wall. Photo was front-on in thick forest with its nose almost buried in the gravel under full braking, with wheels opposite lock. Just spectacular. I think it was Markku Alen. I really loved that picture and this makes me want to chase another poster for my garage. Incredible car driven by gifted drivers in the mid 80's. Imagine if Group B continued awhile longer how much these would have evolved with just 2 more seasons. That engine !

First time I saw the S4: 1985 RAC through Sutton Park. Markku's speed was terrifying; Henri came though still quicker - and with half the front missing. The car was noticeably quicker than anything else in the field.

Group B cars has to be the most fascinating cars ever. I draw and paint really good so i came up with my own designs through the years. One day im going to make a slideshow of them so you guys can see if you want to.
The shots in the snow with the rear bodywork removed are very interesting. You can see how heavily modified the Delta chassis was. It looks like pretty much everything aft of the doors is a space frame, and I'm sure the rest of the car was heavily augmented as well.
FosterZygote It doesn’t have anything of a car left and that was its biggest problem. See how nervous the last sector of the car is. Lancia tried tot build an insane frame on wheels with a easy body on it. That’s nice for rallycross but it’s behaviour on tarmac is not that good.
Idk if youve seen the very famous crash that ended group b but basically the lancia went of the track Down a hill and the gas tank exploded, lighting the car on fire. When they pulled it up there was nothing left of the car outside of the inner structure and its basically just a cage. Sadly both the driver and co driver died in that car.

Any sort of race cars will be destroyed in such disaster and same conditions. Anyway, thats how extreme race hypercars are builds: main monocoque and body frame around it. Delta S4 had hi-tech structure with kevlar elements over main frame. But of course such hight temperature flame will destroy any sort of strong hi-tech elements, because it did not designed to work in a fire. In terms of overall construction's design Delta S4 is still extremely modern even by today standards. (anyway, that disaster where Toivonen and Cresto died should never happened if only team management decided to not disassemble protection metal plate under gas tanks for weight saving, greed bastards killed genius and his teammate and ruined motorsport)

I think the black and gold Esso liveried S4 was probably a road going S4 Stradale that was converted for race use, because it seems to sound and look different to that of the factory Martini liveried S4'S.
straddles were the 200 holomogated road cars which had 250bhp. They are worth 1/3 of the value of an ex works car. Ex works cars had around 550/600 bhp in period.
