So, I live in this model full time (2021 version) and I personally love the stairs to the loft and recommend you do what we did and get rid of the recliners - really opens up the space. We love sitting across from the TV, hasn’t been a problem for us. And oh that deck 😍… It’s one of our favorite features!!! Love our RV!!!

We live in a truck bed camper and my husband specifically got one with a patio/ deck (whatever you wanna call it😂😂😂) and my husband lives out there when he isn’t at work

That deck is amazing. Instead of having to walk out the side door down to the ground and have you seating beside the camper, just walk out on the deck and just sit and enjoy the view. Wether that be the sunrise, the sunset or just sitting out during the day and just enjoying the weather. But mid bunks have come to be my favorite.

@@lindafannon-cj9xi I think the main difference is they made the trailer slightly longer (2021s are 40’4”, 2023s are 42’5”) and moved the configuration of the oven and fridge, giving you a bit more countertop where the oven is in 2023… To be honest, I’d personally rather have the 2021. So many of the parks we’ve stayed at limit your length to 40’ and we’ve been able to round down and say we’re 40’ and get in… at 42’ you really can’t do that. Good luck 🍀

We travel full-time in this RV. Our 6 year old sleeps in the loft ( the stairs are her favorite part) and 2 year old sleeps in the mid bunk. The closet is big enough for all 4 of our clothes and the washer dryer combo. The huge step in the loft hasn’t been an issue for my 6 or 2 year old, they just go down facing the loft. The porch and dishwasher are my favorite features. We absolutely LOVE this floor plan.

Actually with those stairs instead of a ladder? All a child has to do is climb the 1st few steps turn around and sit their backside down on that top one and pull their feet up. So in effect much safer.

I am sooo excited to see the KZ Durango showcased!!! You always hear about Alliance and Grand Design but rarely KZ. I own this model without the mid bunk, 358RPQ. It’s exactly the same layout without midbunk. I live in my full time and absolutely love it! The patio and dishwasher and overall quality sold me. The storage is awesome, it’s a fabulous unit.

I love the larger sink with the colander tray insert (Ikea!). I wash, even the pots easily in the big sink, but easily set a single bowl and coffee up in the colander tray to dry, and not mix wet and dry areas. I'd the best of both worlds! I'd add a single step wooden "ladder" with the step adjustable and the rails on either side permanently installed. It would grow or go depending on the age and size of children. Having used the old metal ladder in our our 1973 Winnebago (back when it was new!), the last step or 2 at the top was useless. My shins were long enough that climbing down I used the 3rd or 4th step, climbing up the 2nd or 3rd!

The loft stairs are amazing. Literally couldn’t find a single thing we didn’t LOVE about this trailer. So much storage, so much space and highest quality we found at the Hershey PA show last year.

I own one of these and am one of the viewers that have suggest this for review due to your liking of mid bunks. The steps to the loft are no problem for me, kids, and drunks. Drunk people actually have enjoyed crawling up there and passing out. I never would have guessed that one, but it actually makes sense once you witness it. This unit also has a dishwasher which comes in handy. We really like the rear patio, but it does take away from some of the living space. The kitchen (ours 2019) is limited (only 1 drawer less counter space around stove) and this can be an issue for extended stay / full timing. Ours is in a seasonal lot. We use the mid bunk as a coffee room and kind of butlers pantry in addition to extra sleeping space if needed. Over all really good unit, but I would not make this my first choice for full timers.

    • @ZeoCyberG
      @ZeoCyberG Рік тому

Yeah, it's just confusing to some people because they think of it in terms of getting to a second floor but for a loft you're not going to be standing up there. So it actually makes more sense to have a transition point where you switch to and from a standing position to a horizontal position in the loft, as that's much easier on the body. Analogy would be how you would be getting on and off a high platform storage bed. You don't step up onto it, you climb on and lay down, which requires much less effort...
Especially, better for people who lack flexibility as climbing all the way into the loft means needing to contort and bend your way into the loft, while trying to keep your balance. So, even the ladder with real steps would still be less safe... It just seems counter intuitive to some people...

We have been full-time in this model (2023, delivered to the dealer Sept 2022) since Oct 2022. We got it specifically because of the midbunk (husband works f/t remote) and the rear patio. We have two dogs and they LOVE to spend hours sleeping on the patio every afternoon. I also love all the light that comes in the sliding door.
My husband tried to set up his work space with the couch in the midbunk, but no go. It is now on the deck while we decide what to do with it and his desk setup is where the couch used to be. While we do have some things stored in the closed top bunk, we would way rather not have it and have windows that are at eye, rather than knee, level. Actually, if this room had an "office" option with a desk built into the cupboards, it would be perfect
Love the huge basin sink and the dishwasher. It's a bit small but works great. I HATE that there is only ONE drawer in the kitchen!!! I ended up putting an end table to the right of the sink for more drawer space. They could easily have added another bank of narrow drawers there (we asked if they would do that during construction. Hard no, even though the model without the midbunk has them and they would fit). They also should remove the dividers between the cupboard doors left of the stove. It takes some acrobatics to get a plate or pot in and out of those narrow doors. All the cabinets in the living space are great!
We use the loft bunk for storage. The stairs up to it have by default become our shoe rack, actually works great because where else is there to put shoes?!? We can both have three pairs out at a time. The coat closet is tiny but a lifesaver. There is room for a few coats to squish in and dog leashes in the bottom.
Bathroom layout has been great. There actually was no toilet paper holder installed, just left in a drawer. It ended up being for the best as I got a tower holder that just sits in the back corner by the shower. The rack is too small for bath towels but some big 3M hooks on the wall do the trick nicely. Love the hot water on demand, although it takes some getting used to how it works.
We put in the washer and dryer, well worth it although I miss the full length closet space. The fireplace in the living space and bedroom save us a lot of propane for heating in the mornings and evenings/overnight. We lasted three months with the mattress before buying a new one. The bed has a tilt, and for some reason there is a big gap in the plywood support directly under a "hinge" in the mattress so the mattress would just sag into it. My husband in particular would be sleeping in a crevasse. Not good. Love the drawers under the bed, and the side cubby is indeed perfect for a sleep apnea machine. If people on both sides of the bed use one you're out of luck though.
We have a large window in the hall with a blind. Not in sure what they are thinking putting this small, high one in now. We upgraded all our windows to double pane, well worth it.
We ordered ours from a dealer while it was still on the assembly line and swapped out the living room couch for theatre seats to watch tv. Very happy we did that as the couch is not super comfy (we tried it beforehand).
The large tv (Sansui) was crap. Our dealer gave us some money towards buying a new one. We installed it and left the crappy one for them. The finishing is not great, door and wall trim separating all over the place. My husband was a finish carpenter in a former life so at some point will probably just rip in it all out and redo it.
OUR BIGGEST ISSUE: THERE IS NO REAR TRAILER HITCH EVEN THOUGH THE SPECS ALL SAY THAT THERE IS AND THE TRAILER HITCH PACKAGE IS LISTED FOR THIS MODEL. We were counting on this to at least have our bike rack for travelling, or perhaps in the future triple tow a small cargo trailer. KZ has NOT been responsive, and I think our dealer feels like there is nothing they can do. They said go and have one installed after market and we will try and get it reimbursed from KZ. So, we will see.
Overall, the layout was the best choice for what we were looking for for full-time living, and the patio is as great in real life as it seems in videos!

I love the two of you doing a video together! Seeing the different opinions on features is absolutely great! I really like the tv! That large step, I would think the smaller kids would enjoy a bit of a climb. My kids loved to climb! They would have flipped to stay in a loft. You could put a baby gate up there for smaller kids to keep them safe. If they are smaller, you’ll probably be getting up with them through the night if they need to get up, anyway. Great video guys! I would really enjoy more of this! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I think the large step going up to the loft is beneficial. Since there is minimal space (a crawl space if you will) the large step will force you to climb with one leg bent into a crawling position so you aren’t attempting to stand and hitting your head. That was my thought anyway. Very nice RV. I wish all of the Durango lines with outdoor kitchens would go back to an outdoor sink and ditch the smokers. Everyone that I know who uses a smoker uses the one they prefer, not the one that comes with the unit. I for one would be leaving the smoker that it comes with on a shelf in the garage at home. A sink in the outdoor kitchen, in my opinion, is much more useful compared to a small smoker that takes up all that space.

Having owned a GD 367BHS the way they positioned the couch and chairs was an EXCELLENT new feature. It was always weird to me the bed would be facing the front of the trailer instead of the TV. Excellent feature. As far as the ladder goes from my 376BHS I much prefer the design of the steps vs the ladder, the ladder always hurt to climb up barefoot or in socks.

The bigger step up to the loft area makes PERFECT sense to me, being disabled I couldn't do a ladder &&& if it were two smaller steps you couldn't walk up into the ceiling. I feel it's designed perfectly for someone small or with mobility issues, you go up 2-3 small steps then sit & roll. AND would make it easier to make the bed. Id give this design a 10/10.

We have a KZ dealer near us in Alberta & hoped to visit the one we really liked at the RV show but they didn’t bring any 5ivers. We don’t need the mid bunk & the deck is “nice to have” but can live without. We had visited them last summer just to see what’s available. The Durango Gold is 4Season and made for full timing.

We have the 2021 Durango Gold G383RLQ. Have had it 20 months now and done some traveling and we do live in it full-time. Everything has held up great!. The 2 year warranty gives us some peace of mind that if anything does go wrong, we have some extra time to get it fixed at the dealer. The High Spec Tires have held up just fine. I did replace the EquaFlex suspension with he MoreRyde CRE4000. Ours came with 210 watts of solar and I have added another 200 watts. I also changed out the battery to a 200ah lithium. Yes, I highly recommend the Gold version of the Durango.

Just got this model last year after 5 other RV's! (Puma travel trailer, Rockwood hybrid, XLR toy hauler, Sabre 5th wheel) It checks all the boxes including an already installed dishwasher...so give me whatever sink you want, LOL. I still plan to upgrade the suspension as the shackles are very thin and I trust the road armor more. The tires also will be upgraded first thing...just love my Sailuns that you installed many moons ago and have stuck with them as a reliable tire. It also has a tankless water heater which my wife and kids love.
Hands down, the patio is the best feature. We noticed one come in to the campground we were at and I had to get a tour. I was instantly hooked.
My only "negative" is that due to the dishwasher you sacrifice drawer space. I know many owners have taken out the dishwasher and put in drawers.

Regarding the missing toilet paper roll holder in the bathroom, many manufacturers leave it uninstalled until the unit is sold, due to different folks having different preferences and to where it ends up being mounted. Bathrooms are a "wet space", obviously, so penetrations into the walls should be kept to a minimum. Seems a lot of folks don't like where the manufacturer decides to mount to toilet paper holder and so later move it on their own, leaving behind holes in the wall or cabinets where moisture can penetrate...

How exciting to see a new design and then to see the 2 of you do you want together. Again, having two of you give opinions right away makes it real. Would there be such a thing as a sectional type couch that you could put there and then be able to separate the 2 chairs, and have it become two separate recliners and then the middle piece become a footstool and it can move over to the other couch. About the sink, I am one that does prefer a double sink, so you can have dishes, maybe soaking in the smaller section of the sink, and the larger pans can fit in the bigger section. I'd like to see the Pantry door with frosty glass and the word Pantry on it. The idea of having the spare bunk room it's kind of neat but we also would prefer A 1/2 bath. To consider this being lived in full time, I would not want the fireplace, although it's ideal for heating and ombiance,I'd still rather have more drawers for storage. Was there storage under bed? I do like bed side table lower but not right on top of the bed, you know? Nice counter space in bathroom and able to hand towels over toilet is OK, I guess. But no TP holder?! Like the coat closet by door but need area for muddy shoes. The carpeted steps isn't ideal... kids need something to hold onto while climbing up and down, so need different steps. I like the colors in there and well, as we know, can't have everything or please everyone. Thanx for the video!

We have had 2 Forest River's with the deck. One Sierra and its sister Sandpiper. We would have bought a 3rd had they not stopped making them. Loved having a deck without it being a toy hauler.

I understand the reason behind the steps to the loft. Kids would just skip over the top. To them, it's a game!
Nice patio, but I would prefer if you could get it without a bunkhouse.

The patio concept is really cool, but I think putting it on the dining/living room slide with sliding glass door at the table similar to what Open Range did with one of their front living bumper pull models 10 years ago would absolutely kill it!

I think those steps going up to the loft are brilliant. You can't stand up that close to the ceiling, and it forces you to sit down and craw in.

I'm guessing that weird step is a result of the low ceiling clearance in the space. You're probably already running into the ceiling on the middle step. I'm also guessing the interior space of the room below dictates a bit of the design.

Like the patio. Large single sink for big pots and pans with a sloped drying rack on the counter. I'd put a reclining love seat if that's not already there. Nice mid-bunk design. I understand the tall top riser, one would lift up on the floor to get in. Less chance of hitting one's head on the ceiling. I'd prefer a queen bed with side cabinet design over a king. Overall a nice looking rig.

The sink is a little inconvenient.
I like the patio idea, but if the RV is at an RV park or resort it might take up too much space to use. Plus you would be so close to your neighbor. I love the mid bunk plan. So glad they are making rvs with cpaps in mind!

Yo JD, it's called a dish drying rack 😂
Unsurprisingly +1 for single basin sink fan here
Great video, that back patio is a game-changer! Though I agree, that huge top loft step is unusable for getting down and much more dangerous than a ladder where you can feel for the top step before you start going too far down

I like the steps up to the loft and the large top step makes sense. You can’t stand up in the loft so you either crawl on your knees from the top step to the bed, or you sit your butt down on the top step and scoot over to the bed, same thing getting out. Personally I think it might be safer and easier.

I do really like the KZ Durango Golds like this. They've been making 'em for a few years now. That back patio is one of my dream features that isn't on pretty much all the floorplans/types we look for. We don't need/want a big heavy toy hauler, which are always way too short on true bed accommodations anyways. Even less so if it's a TT-TH. I've never gotten a chance to look at KZs but in videos and images they do seem to be a cut above most mass market 5Ws without going whole-hog into Riverstones, DRVs, etc.
