I have a Labradoodle x viszla. She is incredible off lead. Perfect heal, recall and leave. Will also do awesome emergency stop when I’ve thrown the ball. But lead walking has been a challenge. Definitely not helped by me hating feel of leads. Really helpful to watch this one and see how much viszla she actually displays
I have just been taught how to use a slip lead properly in a figure of 8 and what an amazing difference on the pulling, my 7 month pup walks next to me like a trooper! I got one of the extendable leads as I thought it was a shame he never got off the short lead but all it done was teach him how to pull. And although it wasn't too bad for me, I knew I didn't have much control when he was on the lead, going to a slip lead has been an amazing choice and I'm glad I switched now at 7 months than further down the line as he is at 45kg now
Phew. I wasn't aware how far I am already with our Vizsla. 😄

I have a 14 month old male Viszla, he's an amazing dog he really is but, just need to tweak a few things, jumping up at family who knock on the door and enter and pulling on the lead !!
Currently still working on 100% immediate recall though.

Same age and issues here although she made so much progress already. I bet it gets better when she's turning two.

So i need genuine help. I just recently bought a doberman, shes 6mo. She is very vocal and EXCITED reactive on walks. I try to redirect when she starts to act up but as were walking away she continues to bark and cry. Im nit sure what to do.

When he said he's been off the lead too much, I think that's the same for my dog we live in the countryside so it's safe for him to be off lead but it means he's too confident and his recall is awful

@@Schachtens cheers, yes he likes cheese but its the competing interests, he prefers playing with other dogs or chasing birds more.

No it is not safe to let your dog loose because you are in the country!! What about farm stock animals, sheep, cattle or someone's horses your dog could chase and injure or kill? Dogs on leads at all times for general public, leads can be up to 30' long, is that not long enough? Only highly trained working dogs should ever be loose for their work.

The dog has learnt to walk with ONLY the slip lead. The dog has NOT learnt to walk with the owner.
The problem here is there is NO value being created being next to the owner. The dog forced to be near the owner rather than just building engagement in-doors first and the dog wanting to be near the owner. Dog is not "cured" the dog doesn't check into the owner at all for the entire process he in-fact looks at everything other than the owner.
But you could take that and then start building the engagement and rewarding

putting on a slip lead on your pooch? face the dog and make “p” with the lead and slip over head. make sure it’s not a backward “p”.
