    I thought I would prefer the Nazgul but Black Winter sounds a lot fuller in this video. It also has more of a crunch when playing chords.

      For my set up, BWs have a big but tight bottom, raw mid, with a relative smooth but pronounced high. Again, for my set up, I dig em

      It's a great performance, but a bad demo as they are playing different amp Sims.....they should have used the same amp SIM patch to really give a good representation

    Keith, Question for you, do you still use the Nazgul? I'm playing through a 5150. I switched out the Nazgul for the Pegasus. Now I find the Pegasus, pretty awesome, warmer. But the output is lower, doesn't have that awesome sustain of the Nazgul.. How did you calm the highs of the Nazgul? Just through your amp settings? I find myself missing the Nazgul now and may put it back in. I play with a Guild Bluesbird. I guess closest type of music I'd say I play is in the realm of Omnium Gatherum and Evergrey. The Pegasus just doesn't have that punch the Nazgul had...and the Nazgul doesn't have the tiny bit calmer on the treble side. Undecided and frustrated. LOL. BTW your playing is always top notch - freaking ace.

    • @KeithMerrow
      @KeithMerrow  8 років тому +3

      For the tones I like, I stick to the Nazgul 90% of the time and just experiment with other pickups for fun on occasion.

    • @MichaelKeelphotography
      @MichaelKeelphotography 7 років тому

      Talk Sick I've actually got a great tone now. Took some experimenting, patience. I absolutely love these pickups and will never buy a different set. Well...who knows ...maybe . But for now I want to put these in all of my guitars. I've got them in my main one, a Guild Bluesbird. The tone is absolutely killer. Running through an EVH III. I've also been experimenting with the Kemper as of late. While I prefer the tube amp in the flesh. The Kemper is perfect for those late night recordings when family is sleeping. Very happy with the Sentient/Nazgul combo. They rip the heavens apart.

    • @MichaelKeelphotography
      @MichaelKeelphotography 7 років тому

      Yeah, I don't know. Maybe you are just a heavy hard player, do you play with heavy gauges? or Really light?

    • @MichaelKeelphotography
      @MichaelKeelphotography 7 років тому

      Yeah I dunno. Maybe just your style of hitting. You know I went from Seymour Nazgul to Pegasus then back to Nazgul then went to Lundgrens M6's. While the Lundgrens do sound good...they just sound way toooo tinny to me. I actually hated them. They are clear, I'll give them that. Anyhow, I went back to the Nazguls. LOL. Full circle.

    • @aric_unhinged
      @aric_unhinged 9 років тому

      Jordan Dubey The Nazgul is super heavy and really high output, but even on low gain settings it has a constant buzz like a chainsaw on standby. If you're constantly shredding and tearing up your guitar and playing songs like this demo, Nazgul for sure. If you ever want to clean up a bit (especially since you won't have a real neck pickup), I would take the Black Winter. It's much more balanced.

    • @flips220
      @flips220 9 років тому

      Aric Fowler ......... the Black Winter is a higher output pickup than the Nazgul....

    • @aric_unhinged
      @aric_unhinged 9 років тому

      It is, but the Nazgul has a higher DC resistance and it isn't as balanced. It's like if you compared a Screamin' Demon to a JB. the JB is going to have more depth and sound a little more balanced, while the Demon has little output but so much sharpness to it that it will cut through the JB. Output isn't really as much of a concern as the tone is. The Nazgul and Black Winter are really close in output (they're both high, with the Black Winter slightly ahead), that really what you should be concerned about is the tone more than the output.

    • @flips220
      @flips220 9 років тому +2

      Aric Fowler Hmm, no, the Black Winter still has a higher DC resistance than the Nazgul. That's why I said the Black Winter is a higher output pickup. To make things equal, take a look at the 6 string versions, straight from Seymour Duncan's website: Black Winter - 16.6k, Nazgul - 13.6k. DC resistance is basically the same thing as output, a measure of how loud the pickup is, yet according to you, the Black Winter has a higher output, but the Nazgul has a higher DC resistance, which you were objectively wrong about. You don't know what you're talking about. And I don't really know what to say about the other stuff, because you call both the Black Winter and JB balanced, and sure the Black Winter is EQ'd to be flat, but the JB damn sure isn't. You're just talking out of your ass.
