I can only imagine! Congratulations again, and thanks for the great addition to the game. I'm very excited to go exploring in space if future content is going to live up to this standard. I went and checked out your channel too, you're absolutely brilliant. Very impressive! Have a great one :)
TheProrokpl I think all which had population (the last were launched 600 years ago!) should have reached their destination or at least a habitable planet.
Just remember that you have to be within 1000ls to see a listening post. It is currently unknown weather Frontier kept all posts at locations within 1000ls or if they are out a bit more. If the first planet is just a bit over 1000ls you might want to supercruise towards it and get in range to at least have a chance of seeing a post if it is around the first planet.
I was about to make a comment on it too? It makes no sense, they were sent out before FDL tech, and they encountered pirates on a slave run? Something is off.
Perhaps the term "Supercruise" used to mean something different? Like how the word "computer" used to mean someone you hire to do complex mathematics for you.
emaPug The pirate thing indicates that this ship was still active when humanity started to use FTL. Unfortunately for them, pirates discovered them before the authorities.
Amelia Tyler Wouldn't have guessed that one at all. Good job. Nice to see that F Dev have good taste in voice actors to go with the good taste in sound design. All helps with immersion.
I though the claim was these were in game for a long time, but I always find it all to convenient that as soon as an update comes all of a sudden new things are discovered.
I don't think they've conclusively said these were in the game for a long time, since the models didn't exist in the files before. The Zurara (Rift Megaship) however, was in the game before, but as an Anaconda, that was upgraded to a megaship model with 2.3
I think these were added after the first rift thing was figured out, which is probably what was in game from the beginning. Otherwise it certainly wouldve been found on accident like what happened with Jaques Station.
Er just out of curiosity from the logs played at the end of the video, how did the women know what super cruise is? if there from a time when that didn't exist?
I don't understand how these people knew about supercruise thech, sure people were developing ftl drive when generation ships left, but those were the old drives from elite 1,2 and 3 that allowed to jump between starts, ships from those eras still had to cruise between planets the old style. Supercruise is very new tech and is first of it kind to allow ships to skip normal space travel.
so are the listening posts near to the stars in the system? if not, say near a planet, can you see them like a nav beacon or tourist point, or are they like USSs? I know OA said in the video, just checking
I bought a Elgato HD60, However my PC cant handle it, however I'm in the process of getting something nice. Still making great FOGGY elite content until then. I'm in the bubble right now just did fsd 5 with falicity I wanted to check out a gen ship before I head back home. " colonia migration appeal only has a week left. I'm having a blast though finally made it into a T9. Keep watchin for me CMDR Obsidian, I'm out here. Thanks for the great vid as always.
About the first discovered ship, assuming the distress messages have been sent a long time ago, how is the location still correct? I mean, even if the ship is perfectly still in relation to the system as it seems to be the case on Elite Dangerous (ships not orbiting a massive body), how is the alignment still the same since the planets are actually orbiting the star?
I flew back to Sol space to try to find one for myself. Useing your info to try to find one. If you see "discovered by commander Neinlederhosen" you'll know I found one. Hopefully I can find one that's NOT a tragic failure.
It appears all the voice actors have been on Generation Ships. I'm glad we have found them and Elite can become a modern game, with roots in 1984, not a text adventure with gameplay from 1984.
No, there hasn't. The only other "voice acting" I can think of is the ATC at stations - which is a nice little touch, but doesn't require any skill or talent.
How about NPC crew, or did you forget about those? Not saying we can't do with even more voice acting, but at least-unlike Season 1-Season 2 did give us lots of voice acting work.
Greetings from CMDRs Protoenchen and Klumpozyte... I (Protoenchen) enjoyed watching your Video like I always do :) Thanks for mention us! I am so proud to be a part of your Video :D But one small question... I know the Generation Ships were launched between 2100 and 2700... you said 2097 was the start... where is this information from? I never hear this but am really curious about! So thanks for this great Video and the Link to my Thread :)
omg. I actually found one of these listening Posts around a Brown dwarf in 2.2. Gave me a message like this aswell with 2 System names. didnt knew what to do with it and completely ignored it 😓
Nope, basically the person making these logs wouldn't have been part of the first generation that originally left earth. Then later, after FSD tech was developed, pirates located and raided the generation ship.
AFAIK, most, if not all of those that didn't go wrong have already reached their destination. They were traveling in supercruise, so up to thousands of times faster than light.
If you are lucky enough to arrive at a system with a generation ship in it, yes, just the scanner is enough, but if you only find a listening outpost then it's worth the shot. Some listening outposts contain damaged information about other points of interests, like stranded ships on some planets or moons but you need to decypher this messages to find their source system.
I hope there are not that many. If there were, it would not be possible to voice act, write a story, logs, a LP message, etc. for all of them. Would need proc gen.
Not sure if I'm buying this "pirate" story. They were able to set up false sos', jump into sc, CAME OUT OF A FREAKING NEBULA, and decked out modified custom ships. Probably more too but I'm tired
funny yesterday I jumped into a location . not sure what it was but it has a couple satellites and a message like that came out! thought it was wierd now I know what it is!!
I see the 3rd party sites have been down for 3 days (Inara, coriolis, edd, edmc, eddb.io) asking for more support from FDEV. Latest patch dropped has broken engineers but hey that's just farming salt right?
Aren't they basically identical 3D stickers with a lil' bitty story? They don't do anything other than sit there... right? ME: Frontier, I'm so very hungry... FRONTIER: Why eat when you can READ about eating?
2097 you say? Well I would be most likely lying on my deathbed looking up at the stars and I see this capital ship flying through our atmosphere, going to find new life, while another life ends...
Meme Machine is it only implemented in Horizons? That is news to me. If so that's a little shitty but at this point I think everyone should have horizons. it's not expensive and definitely adds enough to the game, if you enjoy the game that is.
Am I the only one who thinks that these data logs are very poorly scripted? Well performed maybe but I find them painful. "Fight to the last" cha-chuk, whiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnnn
Sorry, but this is disappointing. The voice acting is great and the actual text would be awesome... except that it makes no sense. There are a lot of things here that don't make sense, and not in a "this is a mystery" kind of way, but in a "you haven't thought this through very well, FD" kind of way. Mentions of supercruise, heavily modified ships, etc. How do you know about supercruise? How do you know the ships are heavily modified? These ships didn't even exist when you left earth! It would have been so easy to do it better. How can this Deacon dude communicate with the pirates? Heck, language alone will have mutated heavily in 600 years. These individuals have been cut off from society for centuries. Communicating with them would be like communicating with someone from the 13th century: not impossible, but also no easy. I dunno, this should have been thought out a little better.
Those clips at the end, especially the last ones are amazingly done. More and more reasons why I love this game and especially the sound guys
Amelia Tyler (voice actress)
Damn! these generation ship stories are hardcore intense!
Wow that voice acting was brilliant!!
Aww, thanks! :)
He's very right! You've set the bar quite high :)
Congratulations on finally being "found"!
Cheers! There may have been a teeny celebration... It's been a hell of a wait!
I can only imagine! Congratulations again, and thanks for the great addition to the game. I'm very excited to go exploring in space if future content is going to live up to this standard.
I went and checked out your channel too, you're absolutely brilliant. Very impressive! Have a great one :)
How did pirates get on the ship without space legs? :p
The only logical explanation is that they're far more advanced than we are, so we probably should welcome our new pirate overlords.
they used space wheelchairs :P
The voice acting and tragic stories of these generation ships are all remarkably well done.
Really sad stories from both ships. I hope some day we will find with some population on board.
TheProrokpl I think all which had population (the last were launched 600 years ago!) should have reached their destination or at least a habitable planet.
Sektion20 Protoenchen - Or they have been rescued.
or the aliens have captured one...
Not sure how a pre-FTL ship's crew would recognise Supercruise for what it is.. being an FTL system and all.
Ok, true.
Just remember that you have to be within 1000ls to see a listening post. It is currently unknown weather Frontier kept all posts at locations within 1000ls or if they are out a bit more. If the first planet is just a bit over 1000ls you might want to supercruise towards it and get in range to at least have a chance of seeing a post if it is around the first planet.
how do they know about supercruise? i thought that Generation ships were sent off before that tech was invented...
My thoughts exactly.
Luis T. Dietz I guess it's in the same way we know about warp drives (like the Alcubierre one), today. We know they are coming, but not when.
I was about to make a comment on it too? It makes no sense, they were sent out before FDL tech, and they encountered pirates on a slave run? Something is off.

emaPug The pirate thing indicates that this ship was still active when humanity started to use FTL. Unfortunately for them, pirates discovered them before the authorities.
gotta say these are well voice acted.
Cheers!
Amelia Tyler
You're welcome. Pretty sure I've heard your voice before, The Turing test?
either way, I hope to hear more of your work soon.
Correct! Good ears. :)
But there are lots of others where you probably wouldn't recognise me (e.g. Rebecca, the old lady on the log from the Zurara in ED)
Amelia Tyler
Wouldn't have guessed that one at all. Good job. Nice to see that F Dev have good taste in voice actors to go with the good taste in sound design. All helps with immersion.

Starfire Technology - They have always been in the lore, but they have only recently been added to the game.
Yeah it's possible but I though I saw that somewhere, but could be incorrect!
I think these were added after the first rift thing was figured out, which is probably what was in game from the beginning. Otherwise it certainly wouldve been found on accident like what happened with Jaques Station.
it seems that all of these ships have a story to tell...
So 2nd floating graveyard found :(
Er just out of curiosity from the logs played at the end of the video, how did the women know what super cruise is? if there from a time when that didn't exist?

Really cool stories, I want to see more of these generation ships.
Is there a name for the instrumental song playing at the beginning (~1:00 mark)?
I feel like I heard it before.
so are the listening posts near to the stars in the system?
if not, say near a planet, can you see them like a nav beacon or tourist point, or are they like USSs?
I know OA said in the video, just checking
I dont find this one as disturbing as the previous one. Still an amazing job from FD and the voice actors though!
Thanks! :)
Jesus that was pretty intense.
I bought a Elgato HD60, However my PC cant handle it, however I'm in the process of getting something nice. Still making great FOGGY elite content until then. The voice acting is most excellent
1:58 How did you get your jump to go that fast? Is there a way to locally cache visited systems for faster access?
David S, watch again and keep an eye on the in game clock.
@ObsidianAnt What is your color matrix for control panels?
I flew back to Sol space to try to find one for myself. Useing your info to try to find one. If you see "discovered by commander Neinlederhosen" you'll know I found one. Hopefully I can find one that's NOT a tragic failure.
This is really neat! And yes, the voice acting is very good.. very exciting for the future of this game! Always top quality shit in this game
Don't be a Deacon. Nobody likes a Deacon.......
Stupid Deacon.

Exile 1 there has been lots of voice acting since Season 2.

Far more than you were originally claiming, you ignorant moron. Now fuck off back to your cave, you knuckle dragging troglodyte.
Greetings from CMDRs Protoenchen and Klumpozyte...

I don't know much about EDs lore, tbh i don't know anything about it. But did the FSD technology exists during the generation ships era?
Nope, basically the person making these logs wouldn't have been part of the first generation that originally left earth. Then later, after FSD tech was developed, pirates located and raided the generation ship.
Ok, thanks for clarifying.
I know, aside the technology paradox, there are gaps. But its ok.
BlindGamer [Funny moments] - As soon as fsd was invented there would be new ships catching up with the old ones.
Yup, I mean they have so far reached a max distance of 180Ly from Sol.... My Asp has a jump range of 46Ly so it wouldn't take long lol
You're doing something right if me from last night wound up on here.
More generation ship discoveries?
Yay, more horror stories!
Are you SURE those were pirates? They could've been demons, since I've listened to that shotgun sound on Doom games 😂
I reckon if there were demons in Elite Dangerous the Federation would want to weaponise them.
Alexandre Fyne which would be pretty cool... ship launched demons instead of fighters
wow that is easier than I'd have imagined to find a generation ship
Are there any generation ships out there where the crew is still alive and en route to their destination?
Are we ever going to find one which WOULDN'T be an awesome space action or space drama movie? I hope not.
AFAIK, most, if not all of those that didn't go wrong have already reached their destination. They were traveling in supercruise, so up to thousands of times faster than light.
I thought there were listening posts in the game before 2.3, I remember finding one and it not making much sense
Wouldn't the inertia from the speed of the generation ships not stop them but rather keep them flying off into the void?
Thomas Macfarlane Perhaps it's still floating, just much slower due to the impacts to the hull?
Hmm it's possible.
Thomas Macfarlane
The pirates could have stopped the ship. I don't think I'm crazy to think they'd have reverse thrusters.
Great video as always Obsidian :)
Are the generation ships moving?
Is this still a good way to find a generation ship? or can we just use the scanner these days?
If you are lucky enough to arrive at a system with a generation ship in it, yes, just the scanner is enough, but if you only find a listening outpost then it's worth the shot. Wow. The logs at the end are just sad. If I ever get to play this game I really hope I find a planet inhabited by people from a generation ship!
Not sure if I'm buying this "pirate" story. They were able to set up false sos', jump into sc, CAME OUT OF A FREAKING NEBULA, and decked out modified custom ships. Probably more too but I'm tired
how could the generation ship girl could know the heat signatures picked up initiated supercruise if they didn't had fsd tech
funny yesterday I jumped into a location . not sure what it was but it has a couple satellites and a message like that came out! thought it was wierd now I know what it is!!

The scariest one by far has to be the Hyperion.
Aren't they basically identical 3D stickers with a lil' bitty story? They don't do anything other than sit there... right?
ME: Frontier, I'm so very hungry...
FRONTIER: Why eat when you can READ about eating?
I just hope that someday, they'll implement some sort of FPS and we'll be able to explore these megaships.
Maaaaaybe not the contaminated one tho...
The listening posts where in the game before the update
the stars look so much better now !
2097 you say? Well I would be most likely lying on my deathbed looking up at the stars and I see this capital ship flying through our atmosphere, going to find new life, while another life ends...
96 what about you?
wuuuut.... sorry Obsidian i am not sure to understand, can you write me here how many of those generation ship were launched at the time ?
Sterlin0 70 to 80,000 ive heard said are out there
ohmygod, this is insane.
i have some trouble to think that those 80.000 are actually all in game ready to be found, though.
those poor people.... i wonder if any of these ships will be found with their populations still alive not knowing that we have ftl technology now
Wow. nice way to cut a swear word, FDev! :D
They censor language, in a game where you can murder people... Because priorities, I guess.
[Spoilers]
So the Venusian was raided by pirates and everyone onboard were killed or enslaved. Lightspeed leapfrog will do that to ya.
im still casually waiting for multi-crew to come to standard elite
Meme Machine
is it only implemented in Horizons? That is news to me. If so that's a little shitty but at this point I think everyone should have horizons. it's not expensive and definitely adds enough to the game, if you enjoy the game that is.
Meme Machine Its never gonna happen as its part of the expansion
i would kill for another expansion for multi crew and fighters going for $15
Perhaps some will be found crashed on planet surfaces.
What if elite dangerous actually is predicting humanities future ??? Like trappis 1 !!!
Fly safe CMDRs o7
Is Mr Ant completely illiterate? How can 'Zephyrus' be pronunced as if it was 'Zaphus'?
