Man Utd Fan Explores UPTON PARK 🤔 SAD Disappearance of the ICONIC WEST HAM STADIUM

  • West Ham left the Boleyn Ground aka UPTON PARK in 2016 and it divided opinion amongst the Hammers' fan base - but here we are in 2024 and it looks almost as though the former home of West Ham United Football Club never existed... Here in this video I share with you the sad disappearance of a once iconic football stadium... 😬 The last game here was a West Ham win vs Manchester United. As a Man United fan, Upton Park (the Boleyn Ground) was the definition of a "bogey ground" - a terrible away day as we very rarely would come away with the 3 points. West Ham fans HATE Man Utd and that intense crowd atmosphere generated from the West Ham fans, surely had a knock on effect to the way away teams played...
What are your thoughts on the current state of the former Boleyn ground⁉️ Let us know in the comments below and don't forget to check out the West Ham LONDON STADIUM TOUR 🏟️

My last visit there was for the final game of the 1989/90 season, West Ham v Wolves, both teams in what was then Division 2. Hammers easily won 4-0 with Liam Brady getting the last goal in what was his final game before retiring. Good memories despite a heavy defeat but at least we saw Steve Bull go to the world cup that summer.
Sad to see such an iconic ground lost but i guess it's a sign of the times now.

@@RysFootyParadise I think most would be very much against it. The capacity of the ground needs increasing and has been talked about, but nothing confirmed yet. There was speculation before of a possible move out of the city centre to a new location but one of the great advantages of Molineux is its close location and walking distance to the pubs, bars, train station, bus station, etc, plus all of the past history too. Any potential move would certainly meet with stern opposition I'm sure.

This is really sad that so little is mentioned about the sites history, glad I got the opportunity to go before they moved.
There’s not a huge amount left at our old ground Maine Road but they do have a little monument where the old centre circle was called Gibson’s Green, a tribute to Stan Gibson who was the groundsman for over 40 years.

Lived, went to school, and worked in Plaistow since 1965, went to my first game around 1967 (aged 8) and saw the like of Moore, Hurst, Peters, Brooking, Sissons, Redknapp, Best, Mc Dowell, Lampard etc ply there trade,............ Green Street to me was the centre of life on match days, the smell of burgers & onions, the badge & rosette and program sellers, The Boleyn pub, Queens market, Odeon cinema Eastham, ABC cinema Upton Park - does anyone remember;- shops like Rumbelows, Cheesemans, Chambers toy shop and the steak house opposite?, `The Golden Egg` cafe in the market place?
Many of the old Eastenders moved out over the years, the area now has a predominant (majority) Asian and African population with very little knowledge or interest in the recent past local community = so sad really.

    • @KimLongWang
      @KimLongWang 5 місяців тому

Seems that it was a great area back in the day. Shops and businesses were making a living back then.
Although there are still Eastenders living there, the area is deprived and lacks basic essential things to life, to society, to living well and growing up well. Shops and "businesses" are boarded up and closed most of the year as many were given to foreigners on welfare and it shows how useless their "businesses" are.
Stop the welfare and most will go.

Fair enough the stadium was demolished, however, couldn't there have been at least an agreement to have the block of flats reminding the stadium in some way? For example, using a façade colour scheme reminding the hammers colour, or 2 hammers. Maybe 1 block of flat is called "the west stand..." They replaced them with soulless block of flats, which is sad.

First game at Upton Park with my old man when I was 8. Lost 0-2 to Arsenal was in the chicken run
My last game 3-3 ironically Arsenal again last season at Upton Park, was in the south bank a spit away where i stood with the old man in the chicken run
I refused to go to the new stadium and still not been
So to TBH I’m not a supporter no longer, I’m a fan
Still obviously follow them and watch all the games on TV
Watch all the UA-cam West Ham channels
My youngest Daughter has been and she said Dad compared to Upton Park you will hate it
My School mates offer me free tickets to go with them and I still say no thanks

Great video and memories. A massive part of my childhood and early adult life going over there, even when I was on the payroll of another PL club as a young player myself. 😂 The walk to the stadium from the station, having to walk back via Plaistow or East Ham due to the police horses cutting off the barriers to Upton Park on the way home, the roar of a late goal you might’ve missed if you left the stadium a couple of minutes early, the burger stalls, pie and mash, the boozers before and after the game. I went to the Boyleyn in October 1999, as an Arsenal fan. My mate, a West Ham supporter, got us two tickets in the Bobby Moore stand. I was advised by a steward that I should remove my Arsenal jersey prior to kick off. It was a miserable day, as the Irons won 2-1 courtesy of a Di Canio brace. My most vivid memory, however, is of the West Ham fans abusing Vieira from the first whistle to the last. Still, a great old football stadium.

    • @nickcockayne7880

Had a season ticket back in those days that game was one of the highlights of the season, a season where Di Canio was unplayable if he was in the mood. He basically beat you guys on his own that day. The second goal was Gascoigne-esque as he flicked it over and around Keown then put it top corner. Vieira spitting at Ruddock as he went off.

Mate - for those of us born and grown up there - it is soul destroying going into that prison block. The "centre spot" is woeful, with nothing to commemorate the team and its history. It would not have taken much to put a fukin plaque at least saying that it was actually the centre spot. The pie and mash was Nathan's, now closed, and the only remaining one now is up by the Abbey Arms - bless 'em. I can't belive the sales "deal" didn't require more deferrence to the club's history. Even the memorial garden looks like a little prison too.

Great video... sad story really .. another club sold its soul. London Stadium doesn't suit West Ham at all... its for tourists lets be honest. I did have a laugh when you said 'Frodo' ...sounded exactly like Samwise Gamgee

Can’t watch this… too upsetting that the clubs owners took away the club’s identity just so they don’t have to pay as much maintenance. Some things are more important than money and material things

As the away fans sing, we sold our soul for a shithole, no need as we know that, and they also shafted us with a crap badge. Used to go regularly to Upton Park, can’t stomach the athletes stadium so very rarely go home games now, filled with a lot of tourists as well. ⚒️

You donut, parts of Highbury are listed so can’t be knocked down. None of Upton Park was but I made a lot of money building them flats. You completely missed the memorial garden where 200 people who were fans were reburied. If West Ham stayed there they would never have won a Euro trophy & would not have 62000 supporters every home game.

I’m not an expert on it mate, just went down for fun and to discover what it’s looking like now 😊 thanks for the info though - yeah I agree there’s lots of positives from moving… I’m just a bit nostalgic 😅

There are no positives to have come out of moving I’m afraid. It’s never been the same football club since we left. There’s more to Football than tourist supporter stadiums and Tin pot trophies. I’m glad you made some money though…
