I made this a couple of days ago. The taste and texture is basically identical to Taco Bell beef. This recipe really nails it and will forever be my go to for taco beef.
I made the recipe tonight- it was amazingly spot-on, as close as is possible to replicate 80s Taco Bell beef at home, thank you so much for sharing your hard work! I listened to Dynasty and Unmasked, two of my favorite Kiss albums while making the recipe. One thing I did differently, I added the beef broth to the beef and shredded the beef into a slurry with a couple of forks before adding the rest of the ingredients. That extra step eliminated the need to mash while cooking, I learned it from Average Iowa Guy's Taco Tico beef recipe video.
So happy you made it and it worked out! I did try the average Iowa guy's Tico meat and it was good! I've never had Tico Tacos so I don't know if it matched up or not, but tasty nonetheless. Your comment made me smile so, I'm going to pick up those 2 Kiss records from the record shop this weekend and give them a listen. Thank you for stopping by and for the awesome review.
I’ll have to try it. My working single mom took us to Taco Bell a LOT. It was blocks away, two 17¢ tacos and a coke was a fine dinner, eaten at a dirty picnic table under a freeway overpass. I miss those greasy orange meat drippings.
I worked at Taco Bell in '86... After the meat was cooked, we would tilt the pan and pull all the meat to the high edge with a perforated strainer device to let the grease flow out for a while before we put the meat in the steam table.
Franchises did it this way until being bought back into corporate PepsiCo… I was a morning prep cook.. don’t get me started on the bean pressure cooker and drilling them to paste… lol😂
We had a 2oz packet of spice we added water and it was thick put the ground beef in this big skillet poured the thick paste on the meat had a rake that we would stir it alot then when it was done we would strain it then put it in the steam table pans and put it in the steamer to be used. I did this for over 2 yrs I also ran the frier and did prep.
I didn't have Taco Bell much when I was a kid but I definitely remember their tacos tasting way better back in the day. They should have kept the same recipe. They just don';t taste right anymore. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
I have been trying to replicate the unique flavor profile of a Taco Bell taco for ~20 years.... this is the only copycat recipe that has come close. You are amazing, and with Taco Bell's ridiculous pricing these days, you are basically a philanthropist, and a humanitarian that is helping to alleviate poverty and saving lives 😅 Edit: I recommend one minor change though, first brown the ground beef, with the salt, then after the meat is browned, add the broth and all of the other ingredients. and simmer and 'mash and stir" for a bit, like normal.
Your recommendation is spot on for those that like a more seared ground beef experience... Thank you for the wonderful comment! Coming up with some more videos this fall.... Sincerely hope you stick around for the next chapter!
I am excited to try this I have tried a few and the one I actually used tonight is the closest I have come to taco bell and is very similar in ingredients. My kids will only eat ground beef tacos if I make them similar to taco bell lol!
I HAD TASTE FOR TACOS AND BEING PREGNANT IS SO HARD TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU WANT TO EAT. I LOVE TACO BELLS TACOS AND I WANT TO GET AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE TO MY TACOS TASTING AND LIKE TACO BELL TACOS. YOU MADE THIS RECIPE LOOK SO AMAZING. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS INFORMATION WITH THE WORLD AND GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS....ALL OF YOU 💞❤️🔥💯😇🙏🏾
Sometimes you get more cheese on the outside of the wrapper than you do on top of the taco. These days, and depending on the location, you get some very SAD looking tacos from Taco Bell.
I stumbled on this video and will be saving it to try it next time I make tacos. I use a vegitarian mince (quorn) to make tacos and I really related to the smashing/mixing watering method😄The major difference is Quorn obsorbs flavour like mad!
Hopefully you had a playlist of Thompson Twins, The Cars, Wham!, Berlin and the like playing in the background as you were cooking to get a real 1986 vibe going before you ate. 🙂
Great video. I have been trying to track down the original taco bell ground beef recipe or close to it for 20 yrs. Cant wait to try it. ALSO< what is the song at the 3;25 mark. I like it a lot! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing with us. We are copycatting Taco Bell, because they are just TOO EXPENSIVE anymore. Right now, we are working to copy the Chapula Steak and the Cantina Chicken. If you have any ideas, do let us know. But, just try to copy them yourself and post, because tens of thousands of people are looking for "Taco Bell -- Copycat Recipe for XYZ". Promise you. You will get millions of hits if you post that, maybe even rename this or add "(Copycat Recipe)" where people will find it quicker. People are revolting because of inflation right now.
The only issue is the use of "Taco Seasoning". Its a general term that could be mean many different ingredients and can vary from each manufacturer. Probably some chili powder, cumin, garlic, etc. but taste could vary based on other ingredients. For example - The Taco Bell seasoning packet you can buy in stores tastes nothing like the seasoned ground beef in the restaurants.
The color is right! Amazing. How did you ever figure this out? Hey, isn’t MSG a neurotoxin? Both Sazon and Accent are MSG. Oh well haha! Very entertaining video. Definitely going to try it thx!
MSG is not for everyone.. I'm personally a huge fan and think it gets a bogus rap. The Sazon really makes the "color" pop.. Grobin likes his taco meat to pop. Thanks for watching!
MSG gets an unfair bad rap. It has been proven safe for many decades. A small portion of people have a mild reaction to it like getting flush, but nothing serious.
I have the same question. I think it's the saffron one because of the yellow at the top of his packet, the cilantro one is orange on top. Probably not much of a difference either way.
@@johnnyhottub the final flavor may be spot on, but @mansilijr is correct. The meat never looked like that. Also, your prep method is nothing like how it was done in the stores.
Tried the recipe! It is great and a lot like the 70's and 80's Taco Bell. Thanks! Also, @johnnyhottub what is the song at 3:25---it's really cool. Please let me know.
*UPDATE* I made this last night. Followed the directions and ingredients exactly. It is absolutely SPOT ON! Thanks you so much!!!!
2:30 For anyone interested, the Sazon Goya appears to be the Con Azafran variety. That's what it looks like in the video anyway. You're welcome!

3/4 beef broth
1 heaping tablespoon onion powder
2 tablespoons taco seasoning
1 teaspoon accent/ msg
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon tomato paste
1 packet of sazon
1/4 cup buttermilk
Wow made exactly as video last night…everyone loved it. Thank you so much
So glad to hear it! Thanks for trying it out!
Stale taco shell? You really did go for the authentic experience... lol
That's ten times too much cheese for today's taco bell.
5 slivers only😂😂😂😂
I've had as little as 2 slivers

We used to Ditch school in the mid 70s at lunchtime and go to Taco Bell we made it back in time and never got caught . Haha
I award you zero points for not heating up the Taco shells like you're ALL supposed to do!
I'm looking forward to more videos. For sure!
Thanks. Now, please get is the original Taco Bell pinto bean recipe. That's the real gold you ask my tongue. Lol
Tried it today and it was amazing.
Love to hear it!
I wish these were still for sale at an affordable price
Thanks for the recipe. This tastes just like taco bell ground beef. ❤
I have a bag of this Taco 🌮 🔔 recipe 💯 & I already have the original recipe 💯 your is spot on 💯

86 poway taco bell, a completely different taco bell, actual food cooked, whole beans, lard.
Just warm the taco shell in an air fryer, or give it a few seconds in the microwave. They crisp up nicely
What do you use for tacos that don't explode into pieces after one bite ?
Spot on!!
Its gonna melt into your shorts😂😂
I'll take 6 of those with diced tomatoes and thin cut lettuce plz.
Done and thank you for your order. Please come again!

tasted more like 1990's Taco Bell
LOVE IT! Can't go wrong.. right?
Just buy the taco bell seasoning in the packet.....btw taco tico is 🔥 they even sell there ground at the resturant by the pound 😂
Taco bell seasoning packet is not even close to the taste of the restaurant ground beef.
@@d.c.3220 not even in the same ballpark! Honestly, Lawry's is much better if you're going that route.

I have the same question. I think it's the saffron one because of the yellow at the top of his packet, the cilantro one is orange on top. Probably not much of a difference either way.
I'm pretty sure the Sazon Goya is the Con Azafran variety.
you look like youre straight out of the early 2000's
Why 1986 taco bell? Was it better back then?
What is sazon
Did he brown the meat and drain it first?
He did not.
You can replace accent and salt with soy sauce
this guy cooking in a turtlekneck? lmao
I don’t think the shell was stale. I’m pretty sure you didn’t bake it first. 😂
