Didn't even read the comments yet, when the wondersawn came up i was like "lemme guess they're probably going to bring up that it made a cameo in Kamen Rider Ex-Aid"
I’m sure it’s been said many times, but I just want to thank This Is for throwing the THPS character select screen music into rotation. It’s a good vibe 🤙🏾
I remember seeing this when I was young! I remember that anything with button layouts that werent conventional were cool and thought this thing was pretty awesome! Never got a Cybiko though
Damn, I can't believe Austin didn't care about the Kamen Rider lore drop. Disappointed. Massive L. 😔 Matt though, is an absolute king for that. Massive W. 💪🏽
yea i've basically been holding Matt at gunpoint and he finally caved and watched a few episodes of OOO and 1971 ... i guess in hopes of understanding what i'm talking about at any time also hey i know you from twitter, i didn't know you watch This is!
Does anyone remember Skannerz, it was like a monster fighting one hander like digimon digivice or Pocket Pikachu, the gimmick was it had in IR scanner where you went around scanning the upc codes and fight evil monsters and turn ‘em friendly and then add them onto your pocket monster team, the premise of this was there were different colors and shapes of scanners all corresponding to different alien factions and you could fight your team against your friends by scanning each other’s IR blaster. This was back in the days of the gameboy color so it had a tiny 2 inch screen and obviously no wifi, but I enjoyed it, it would be fun to see that come back on something like the switch, or I guess Pokémon Go was pretty close to it idk I never got on that train.
Yet again the Neo Geo Pocket Color, the greatest handheld of its generation, getting absolutely no love. It had a built-in microswitched joystick and had not one but TWO Metal Slug games for it. How badass is that? It needs to be included in the next video!
@@Z64bit Hard to say. I don't recall any Neo Geo cabinet having the clicky stick - could have been worn down but the Neo Geo cabinets in NZ were often more DIY than anything official. I don't think that any had clicky sticks. For NGP Metal Slug it felt perfect. The stick had a good "click" in it and it felt very satisfying in general. Like I wish I could have a fidget toy of it (but not a real NGP stick as I don't want to wear out an OG part). IMO it would be hard to put a clicky stick on a modern handheld, except maybe as a replacement for the D-Pad (i.e. have an analog stick and a clicky stick on Left). As for weird. There would be an oddness to use it for any game used to an analog stick over micro-switches. Edit: Oh and it's out of the park better than the shallow feeling sticks like on the PSP (I think that NGP clicky stick better than the 3DS Circle Pad).At the time it would have been the absolute best "stick" on any portable.
Correction* every kid wanted a portable TV as a kid back in the 90s. Even now everyone watches youtube and streaming apps from their smartphone, how is that not the same as watching portible TV. Also i dont think portable TV had anything to do with the Turbografx handheld failing. Turbografx in general was not marketing very well in the US vompared to Nintendo and Sega. It is a great console though
I can’t imagine listening to Matt infodump about Kamen Rider and then saying you didn’t need to know all that, what else is there more important than video gamer doctors and Kamen riders?
Did you guys cover the Sega nomad? My brother had that, and it was basically the same idea as the turbo Express, which we never had but had the turbo grafix 16, also had the game gear with TV tuner lol
I remember seeing the ads for all but two of these in the Sears Wish Book and fantasizing about them but never getting them. However, I don't think that the CDAB layout is weird for that Tiger handheld since now we've got XYAB and YXBA. No, the weird layout there is with having an on and off button on opposite sides of that row of buttons, start *and* select *and* pause, with pause being next to off, which just sounds like a recipe for disaster.
The Mega Duck was for markets where game systems could not be imported, from my understanding. You might want to look into the history. It is interesting.
I'm pretty sure the MP3 cartridge mentioned early in the video was the same idea as the one on the Handspring Visor. It added MP3 playback capability and had just enough storage to hold like 10 songs.
I had the PC engine GT and played a lot of two button street fighter on it (the only way to play it in my opinion, you want to use the start button to switch between kick and punch). It wasn’t that big, and compared to the game gear the screen was really crisp and not washed out at all. Who ever threw in China Warrior in the package for me was cruel. 😢
The only thing that kinda made me switch to my phone for YT was Premium. I hate ads. Mostly use shorts on mobile nowadays. Long form vids I watch mainly on my computer.
The Gameboy always ruled for two simple reasons a) it had great games and b) you can play for hours and hours on a 4 double A's. That was the single biggest problem I think with 99.9% of every competitor. Either less good games and far fewer or absolutely crap battery life.
Not only that, but it exemplified the “it just works” mantra, and for the lowest cost of entry in the market. The Game Gear was a good competitor, but it notoriously had failing audio output after a while.
The lack of any real talk on the 'Com is disgraceful. They also do extremely little research for any video they make. The RZone was multiple models, how they chose only the XPG (a late revision) shows they half assed this.
i asked him today to tell me 5 things about rider and he said (and i quote) 1. henshin 2. birthday cake 3. count the medals 4. bird 5. dead guy (he has watched 4 episodes of OOO bc I said it was my favorite)

I still have my Atari Lynx. It was great for hour long drives to see relatives on holiday weekends. Edit: And it still works! LOL My first gameboy stopped working decades ago.
I know it's a longshot but I've been trying for the longest time to find the song that is referenced at 8:46 and if anyone knows the name I'd love you forever.
Matt knowing about Kamen Rider ExAid gives this episode so many bonus points
@SHiSNO :)
I want the "matt talks about Kamen Rider for 8 uninterrupted minutes" cut
Me too.
Yes. This should be a video of its own.
Kenzi and Matt slowly shoving kamen rider bits into this show is smthing I never thought would happen, but I'm glad it's here
celebrating today bc I finally got them to talk about Kamen Rider on This Is :D!

Love when Kyle comes thru with the facts bro
IMO the main (and possibly only) notable thing about the WonderSwan is that it was created by the same person who created the Game Boy, Gunpei Yokoi.
My brother had the Turbo Express (with TV tuner) when we were young....I was low key jealous. That thing was super cool!
