    18:47> here you will see the Autobahnkreuz Meerbusch. Crossing the A57 from left to right with the A44 riight under to left over. Yes this aproach from West is a factor of the wind. A great sight over Meerbusch is, when the A 380 starts. Fantastic! At 20:30 you see the B8n- in direktion left North-Duisburg->South> Dusseldorf City. I lived here and I know, that the Wood of the Kalkumer Forst was roded to create the Runway North called 23R and 05L. Some of my jogging ways are disapeard. 23:44> here you see on the left the old Maintanence of the LTU . As i was a boy 14 y old, we will be in the fields of Wittlear Einbrungen free flight Planes in the Air. Also som RC Models. This Hangar give us an aim. Great remembers. Thank you!

      Thanks for your great feedback! Discussing the taxi routing after landing is part of the standard briefing. At some airports we know the expected parking position 30 minutes or so prior landing. Thank you very much for the great video. It is very interesting to see an approach in Düsseldorf which I have approached in a small GA aircraft before myself but obviously I didn't have to fly the Transition or something similar just some holding patterns due to traffic. Keep up the good work!

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching, the good feedback and for sharing your personal experience! Depending on the time of the day, Düsseldorf has a good amount of traffic. Sometimes we have to fly the full transition, sometimes not. I would call the transition just a different type of holding pattern. It keeps you in the air and delays the approach because of the traffic situation.

    Hello Cpt.
    A great and super nice approach video! 🤩
    The view from the cockpit with the coal mines is impressive! 😮
    What I really liked are the overlays of the approach and flight data during the approach.
    A question:
    When landing, is it generally flown with an autothrottle, or rather manually? 🤔
    I'm looking forward to the next video!
    With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a nice weekend.
    Greetings from Styria 🤗
    Werner

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +2

      Hello Werner, many thanks for the good and detailed feedback! This is very helpful! The pilot flying decides if she or he wants to fly the approach with autothrust on or off. Airbus recommends to use the autothrust at all times, even during manual flying and visual approaches .... On the other hand, we have to be also proficient in doing the approach without autothrust. So it is a good idea to fly some approaches with autothrust and some without. Best greetings to Styria!

    Saturday morning coffee is always combined with your video! Thank you very much captain!
    I would like to ask about the TCAS. During the approach, the proceeding traffic appears "slipping" to the left of the LOC path. Is this a normal error margin for the TCAS? Could it lead to potential issues in case there is no visual contact with the other traffic (e.g low visibility)?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! My understanding is that the TCAS antenna is an antenna with 4 segments. One is on top of the airplane and one on the bottom. If the receiving signal is a the border of 2 segments (which could be the case if the other plane is on the same localizer ahead) the airplane symbol may be shown a little offset or sometimes it even jumps from a little to the right to a little to the left. In general, this does not matter at all. We would get the same resolution advisory if the plane is a little right or left as soon there is a collision risk.

Visual approaches are in accordance to the airport information not allowed for large airplanes at Dusseldorf airport. This is a local rule. During bad weather or other non normal situations it is still possible to fly a visual approach at Düsseldorf airport.

      Vielen Dank fürs Anschauen und das gute Feedback! Ich kann die Frage nicht beantworten, da die Meldung sofort wieder weg war und auch im Status nichts stand, auch keine Message für die Maintenance. So etwas kommt beim Airbus ab und zu mal vor, weil er viele Systeme und Computer hat, die sich gegenseitig überwachen. Die Anzeige der "echten" Fehler bleibt erhalten und - wenn erforderlich - wird auch eine entsprechende Checklistedazu angezeigt. Diese Fehler tauchen dann auch im Status des Flugzeuges auf.

      Even a headwind, especially when landing on runway 23L, keeps us busy. Reason are the trees which are located in front of the threshold. They produce some kind of rotors with up and downdrafts.

    Another informative video, thank you. How does "Auto-thrust" work? And, after landing, what is the meaning of the call "Decel"?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for your support as a member! Autothrust is a system which sets the thrust to an appropriate value. Without autothrust, the pilot flying needs to adjust the thrust levers all the time to fly a certain speed. With the autothrust, the pilot and/or the autoflight system just sets the speed and the rest is done automatically. It is similar to a speed control system in a car. Decel means that the pilot monitoring confirms that the airplane is decelerating as expected.

    Very nice, I’m interested was there something else that allowed you to do a single engine taxi even though the 3 min cool down period had not passed, or did you taxi with both engines?

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      In general: If we land with idle reverse, we use the recorded landing time of the Airbus and add 3 minutes on top before we switch off one or both engines. This gives us some extra margin for time rounding differences because technically the time starts already to count before the touchdown, as soon as the engines are not operated at high thrust (50 % N1 or 1.05 EPR) anymore.

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      In general, you will end up flying in alternate law and with gear down in direct law. You lose the flight control protections and the Airbus will fly like a conventional airplane. In addition, you have to land with flaps 3. The CEO requires VREF +10 and the NEO VREF +15. The landing distance will be longer than without the failure. The Captain will still have his or her PFD and the standby horizon will be available. So the Captain will fly the approach. We are trained for this. Not a big problem.

    Another question when I’m at my crusing altitude how do I know when to decent ??

    • @ApproachandDepartureVideos
      @ApproachandDepartureVideos  Рік тому +1

      Ideally, we descent with idle power until 1200 feet or so. The plane glides about 3 nautical miles per 1000 feet. The wind has also to be taken into account. And the cost index. The computer shows us when he thanks that we shall start the descent. His assumption is ok as long as the length of the approach and the arrival have been entered correctly.

    Thanks for another great video 👍I just wondered, if you had incorrect QNH set in the aircraft can ATC tell from maybe incorrect altitude? Also would incorrect QNH affect the landing touchdown height or is it just for altitude calibration around the airport. Thanks 👍👍

    • @tomstravels520
      @tomstravels520 Рік тому

      Not for an ILS approach except the wrong altitude you would be at waiting to intercept the glideslope. But if it was an RNP approach then yes that will cause you to descend too high or too low. Some modern Airbus can cross check the barometric altitude with GPS altitude to ensure it’s roughly the correct setting.

    • @birdman4274
      @birdman4274 Рік тому

      @@tomstravels520 I would imagine it could affect ILS also, as you might not even intercept the G/S if you're too high (but think you're not because of calibration)

    • @tomstravels520

      @@birdman4274 the ILS can reach out to about 20 miles so as long as you’re within that range and not exceedingly high you’d still be able to lock onto it. The sidesticks are not interconnected. They both send their inputs to the appropriate computers. If both pilots would make an input at the same time, the inputs would be added. We do not do that. And there is a "takeover pushbutton" which allows one pilot to disconnect the other sidestick in case of an incapacitation or a technical malfunction.

      Thanks for your comment. There are no endless flares in my videos. Without the flare, a hard touchdown would be usually at about 300 meters from the beginning of the runway. With the flare it is at +/- 600 meters from the beginning. Most of the time, we are even doing better than our precalculated landing distance. If you want to see shorter flare distances, I suggest that you watch my Samos or Mykonos landings here on the channel.
