I just bought my first lithium batteries and smart shunt and was struggling to figure out how to set all the settings. This video was exceptional and extremely helpful, I am thrilled that I found your channel and thank you so much for your thorough explanation!

You can not imagine how many people like me are out there trying to set up their smart shunt and have zero clue what we are doing. I am currently on the road traveling long term with my family and needed this information desperately to make sure we are using our batteries wisely. Thank you so much. Everything makes sense now. You have a new fan!

Thank you... I have been using a Victron Shunt for several years and I get 100% reading when I know it is not forever, but I had no idea how to fix it... 😊

I have plainly been using the wrong settings for my 120ah Lifepo4 which explains the fact that I did not have the 60% SOC while van was off the road that I thought I had. Going with your advice tomorrow. Brilliantly explained thank you.

The official Victron manual is written very poorly. It says "The charged voltage parameter should be set to 0.2V or 0.3V below the float voltage of the charger."
My CTEK D250SE charger has a float voltage of 13.3V for lithium. So according to Victron, I should have my Charged Voltage set to 13.1V.
The manual doesn't give any advice for tail current or charged detection time. Definitely not consumer friendly. Thanks for doing the video that victron should have done themselves.

I'd loved to have gotten all victron components when I was shopping for everything. At the time I was new to solar and couldn't justify the price in my mind. Now I see so many features victron provides that I would like to have now. They are expensive and complicated but they are unmatched in so many areas.

Amazed how many people don't read the manual! It's all there!! From Page 22 on is the most helpful. Even so called experts don't get it 100% .
Discharge floor is used for the time remaining calculation and alarms, it doesn't disconnect anything that's low voltage disconnects job!

You can add me to those few who have gone bigger than normal. I have two 460Ah LFP's for 920Ah. I had planned on going with a DYI build with 16 280Ah cells in either a couple of 2p4s configurations or by paralleling four 4s pack for a total of 1120Ah. All of these would fit into the battery tray made for (6) golf cart batteries.

offgrid have a question re my battery charger leads and midpoint connection to smart shunt.cant find this in viltron manga..should I keep charger leads as is going to each battery, or connect as a load, with each positive lead going to first battery, and each negative going to load side of shunt?seems like keeping as is would be the best way? thanks John

Hi Rog, good video thanks, I am a bit concerned about the Battery capacity setting though, you need to be clear about series and parallel, 280 x 16 like I have in a 48 volt system is just 280AH as they are in series to make 48 volt, a 12 volt 280 would be 280 but if you have two in parallel then 560, so in parallel add them, but in series dont, what you say is not really clear. Bob

    Current Threshold 0.1A
A solar charge controller and shunt draw about 0.03A
Does the system account for idle draw? Only if you lower the threshold to below 0.03 ?

I am confused on your Peukert's exponent info, I think this is used to calculate (project) the delivered capacity based on the Discharge rate not charge acceptance efficiency. Just curious what you were intending on this one.

Hi. Can you make a short video where you have two smartshunts with their own separate batterybank. Each of them with one or more mppt.
And show How to correctly add all the units to a bluetooth network.
Then add a globallink and connect all units via bluetooth only.
Explain the differences between System Voltage, Gateway Voltage, and each SmartShunt Voltage.
    Can VRM indeed handle this?
Last But also important. Install the globallink first with no connected units. Does it stay connected for 8 hours straight?
After connecting all units, Does it stay connected for 8 hours straight?
Add a communication alarm set to 60.
And turn the relay to Closed.
If you can add some kind of logger to the relay port that would be useful as this will show if, when and How often the globallink has restarted during these tests.
I have had issues no one can solve and hope that you can give it a go. Many users have the same issue with abnormal interrupts and restarts.

For the total battery capacity. You didn't mention what type of connection done, Either series or parallel. If series, the total capacity of all batteries connected will the total of one battery(280AH). If connected in parallel, the total battery capacity will be the sum of all batteries which is 1120AH.

Looking at the charged voltage of 14.0V on his screen, it’s obviously a parallel setup connection. However, he may have made it a bit more clearer.

Amp hours are not necessarily determined by the number of batteries you have but rather by the battery configuration....if you have two 50ah -12v batteries in series you still have a 50ah battery, it's just a 24v - 50ah battery now. Something I thought needed to be made clear after watching just the beginning of your video...statements like that cause confusion for viewers.
