I’ve always hated the chocolate bar illusion because it only really works on the digital version that “corrects” the image as it rearranges the pieces. Whenever you attempt this in real life, you can always see the pieces which lost volume, and are now shorter than every other piece

the beauty of the checkerboard illusion is the framing. 'Are these two squares the same color?' You see - if you extend that question, you can answer it both yes and no. 'Are these two squares the exact same color when it comes to the photons they emit?' Yes. 'Are these two squares the same color checkerboard squares?' No, of course not. One is in the white square diagonal, the other is in the black square diagonal. Try asking your brain to find all the squares with the same hue instead of the same pattern. Magically, six squares might stand out to you.
