    In this lesson, you will learn what a proportion is, how to solve proportions, and how to calculate the value of a proportion. A ratio is the comparison between two numbers, and a proportion is when we set two ratios equal to one another. When we solve a proportion, we must learn how to solve an equation for the unknown variable. In this lesson, we describe what proportions are used for, how to set up a proportion as an equation, and how to use the concept of solving an equation to solve a proportion.

    Okay, so I'm 45 and finding myself starting school from scratch to further my career. I used to be EXCELLENT at math in high school. I went up to calculus. Math feels so foreign to me, now.
    The very first explanation you gave on what proportion is was SO GOOD. I'm going to explore this channel!

    In the numbers rational propotions they can also be solved in this way
    Ex: 3/5 =X/15
    X=9 3/5
    Molt 5X3=15
    Molt 3X3=9
    X=9
    2EX : 1/2= X/6
    2x3=6
    3x1= 3
    [X =3

    • @MathAndScience
      @MathAndScience  2 роки тому +1

      Yes you could - however I don't like teaching it because cross multiplying hides what you are actually doing, and it is only applicable to this specific type of equation. What I am showing you here is "real" algebra and these skills will be used basically forever going forward solving more complex problems. I don't like "one off" solution techniques where you don't know why it works - here you understand exactly why every step works. Jason
