Punk happened in Britain because of what was happening in the country at the time, the condition society was in. There was anger about what was happening.
@@paulmartin3962 punk started before Thatcher. John Lyndon joined the Sex Pistols in 1975, God Save The Queen was released in 1977 and Thatcher became PM in 1979. Whilst I’m very much NOT a Thatcher fan, the feelings at this point in time can not be laid at her feet…the absolute sh!t show of the 80’s is all on her though…as is every issue to do with trains, buses and utilities that we still experience. *edit, and obviously the devastation of UK industries, is on her too
I’m not sure that an RIP to QE2 is really that appropriate for this song. This song was released by The Sex Pistols in time for her silver jubilee in 1977…and was subsequently banned from being played on BBC radio stations, with some shops refusing to stock/sell it…but it still ‘officially’ reached number two in the charts (in the week of the jubilee), though many believe that it actually reached number one but was prevented from being given that status officially due to officials blocking it…and if you actually listened to the lyrics she is being called part of the f@scist regime, that she ‘ain’t no human being’ and that she’s ‘not what she seems’. This is to all intents and purposes an anti monarchy song, not a celebration of a Queen. A fair amount of the clothes The Sex Pistols wore were likely designed by Vivienne Westwood as it was in her shop that the band was created in 1975 as she was at that time the girlfriend of The Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren (who co-owned the shop with Westwood) and one of the guys who co-wrote this song, Glen Matlock occasionally worked in the shop too. I’m not sure which items of clothing you were thinking looked particularly feminine but if you’re referring to the top that Steve Jones (the guitarist) was wearing, I’m pretty sure that it was a really loose knit jumper (sweater) that had massive gaps between the stitches and was in a similar vein to a ‘string vest’ and was definitely not something that would have been worn by many women in 1977 unless they were wearing another top underneath it…clothing in general in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and first half of the 90’s was much more conservative than it is now…or has been for the last twenty years.
I've NO IDEA what clothes they were wearing that he thought were "girls clothes". Rotten has a bondage shirt, leather trousers, Vicious, t-shirt/jeans,Cook,similar. Jones has a knitted long sleeve jumper, but like a string vest effect with leather trousers too. Bizarre comments from ignorant reactors.
Those were NOT rock and roll clothes. They were/are badass punks. They wore those fucked up rags to get a reaction, and four decades later it still works!
Punk had to happen, it was the result of the political situation going on at the time ,no job, no money, strikes all over the place, inflation was sky high, power cut in shops, few hours of electricity per day at home, rats running all around the place among 10 foot high rubbish. And on the other site The scroungers Royals were celebrating the Jubilee of the queen for being on the throne for 25 years when the whole country was in crisis. Punks were everywhere at the time and so were the skinheads and all sorts of anti-Punk twats. I was a punk in the 80's,the original meaning of punk had gone, but it's legacy is still around. Punkx never dies You can see Nancy R.I.P, Debie Juvenile R.I.P, Jordan R.I.P, Siouxsie sioux, Steve severin,Tracie R.I.P, Soo catwoman,Helen Of Troy, Vivienne Westwood RI.P ,Malcolm McLaren R.I.P.
LOVE The Sex Pistols tho! Thank Thank Thank you! Saw an old B & W Sex Pistols vid a Millenia ago & in my head I was going “THEM! I like them!” I’d been asked on the St once (some roving interview thingy) wot kind of music I liked & uhh ahh umm. Then saw Sex Pistols clip. Them etc (see above). Now wot genre is that?? Kidding! I need you to dive into that queens history. I bet the meaning of RIP will change
God save the queen 👑 you are uneducated
There was Nothing wrong with Queen Elizabeth II , challenge you to come up with a better head of state?

Birth of British punk ! It all started here
It was definitely embryonic is the USA, but the 'birth' could definitely be said to be in the UK. It exploded here more than it did anywhere else.
@@RevSticklebackUK & the sex pistols are the birth place & start of punk. The US followed on after, with their ‘style’ of punk.
