  • February is Black History Month in the USA. So when I perform in public or at private parties, I make sure to include several songs by the great Duke Ellington.
Here's a recent performance of mine (February 8, 2024) of the classic Ellington song "Don't Get Around Much Anymore." Like a lot of Duke Ellington songs, it began as an instrumental number without words for his dance band, the Duke Ellington Orchestra. In 1940, its original title was "Never No Lament," but the title changed in 1942 when Rob Russell (one of Duke's regular collaborators) wrote lyrics. The newly renamed song "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" was an instant hit, and has since been covered hundreds of times by a long list of singers and bands.
