Thank you so much! This is so simply explained and informative. I'm researching how to resist dye for a Tang dynasty inspired project and this helped me enormously. I imagine as well as painting you could roll the hot wax onto a block and print it onto the fabric.
So a few questions: does wax just come out of most fabrics like this, is there a change to the texture of the fabric, and how much wax is left? (I assume it doesn’t all come out but idk)
Hey! Yes wax will come out fully. If you iron, there is a chance that the fabric will get a bit stiff. But after wash it should be back to how it was. You’ll have to iron it a couple of times to get the whole wax out but if you immerse it in boiling or hot water, the wax will come out quickly and easily.
Yes! You can get both crackle effect & the design on same fabric. Crumple and crush only those areas where you want the crackle effect. The pikachu sample shown at last has both the design and the crackle effect.
You can use synthetic dyes, which you can buy from store or click on the link mentioned in the description box. Or else you can make Tea dye or Onion skin dye at home for dyeing the fabric. Hey! You may use it after washing properly but i would recommend using a separate utensil for melting wax. Don’t use it for cooking or storing food post melting wax.
If you are using synthetic dyes then 15 to 30mins would be enough. If you are using natural dyes such as tea dye/onion skin dye/coffee dye, you will have to keep it aside overnight.

You're welcome! I'm glad I could help. Absolutely, using hot wax on a block for printing onto fabric sounds like a great technique.

Can you use only paraffin wax?
Using only paraffin wax can cause cracks giving a mottled effect. I suggest using both paraffin wax and beeswax unless you want a crackle effect✨
