"... but how can a nation succeed, live, and build on the backs of broken baby skulls and the slurry of blood and bone?"
They've never read the Old Testament, have they?
Also Israel.
No christian has, otherwise they'd follow god's commandment that not only should abortions be allowed (up until a month after birth, i.e. the time of ensoulment according to the bible) but in some cases they must be carried out.
That, and they clearly don't remember what happened to this land's Indigenous population.
They pretend to have never heard of a school shooting either.
Or the history of the U.S. and how it was built on the backs of enslaved people and the genocide of Native people.
What I want to know is, do people actually think Trump is going to be LESS pro-Israel than Biden?
Some people's electoral calculus extends further than just comparing the two front-runners on a limited set of hot-button topics.
@@stevewithaqthose people are few and far between. Most people vote on hot button issues.
@stevewithaq When option 1 is unpleasant, and option 2 is a danger to the basics of democracy, it shouldn't be a difficult question.
Sometimes, the top-level issue is important. Just because option 1 isn't the best, letting option 2 get the win is far, far worse.
Again, does anyone think Trump will do anything other than root Bibi into killing more?
The phrase "don't be stupid, stupid" rings loud...
@@stevewithaq , care to explain any of that calculus? I'm pretty good at math (you chose the analogy) and I'm just not seeing it.
No they didn't. It's about "punishing" Democrats for being "not good enough."
I am a queer, trans Canadian who lives near the border. *Anything* that can keep that orange menace from being elected again will make my life easier, and ease my fears of being in the position of a Polish Jew in the late 1930's.
You are my doppelganger apparently. Queer trans Canadian near the border. Trump losing (again) will have a serious and beneficial impact up here. The crap happening in Alberta, the rise of extreme conservatism, general hate being spread, it's a southern import. My hope is that MAGA face-planting for a third time will show Canadian politicians who lean that direction that it's a losing strategy. If Trump wins.... It's gonna get even scarier.
We need to make sure we look after ourselves, too. Pollievre isn't as outright looney as Trump, but he's just as clueless and anti-trans.
@@barbaros99Queer Canadian here too! Yes, I’m worried that Pollievre is more dangerous precisely because he’s more intelligent than Trump.
At least we have more than 2 viable options, I am not voting conservative but o am not particularly impressed with the Liberals right now either, looks like it will be the NDP.
Pierre is absolutely an ambulance chaser who will say whatever it takes
I don't think abortion will cost Donald Trump the election, I think Donald Trump being Donald Trump will cost him the election.
From Australia.
Don't overestimate us
We can only hope.
we said that in '16
Chances of Trump winning the Australian election are no doubt pretty close to rock bottom.
We can only hope.
Here’s what I want to know: Where are all the “abortion is bad because we have no right to murder children” people when it comes to all the other ways that the US murders children?
I’m talking wars for oil. I’m talking drone strikes on civilian neighbourhoods in other countries. I’m talking how it took the US nearly half a year to start putting any actual pressure on Israel to stop killing civilians (including children) in Gaza, and to let food through so children stop starving to death. I’m talking about how the right wing, the same people who claim that abortion is murder, are the ones that are holding back support for Ukraine, while Russia launches missile strikes on their cities. (Because unless you assume the Russians are using huge numbers of child soldiers, I’m pretty sure Ukraine’s children are bearing the brunt of the child murder in that war.)
Domestically, I’m also talking about how the right is constantly trying to eliminate things like social security, school lunches for poor communities, etc. I’m talking about how they refuse to enact gun control to reduce the school shootings. Because somehow, in their twisted world view, the rights of a fetus are more important than the rights of a woman not to have an unwanted parasite inside her - and yet somehow, it’s more important that everyone be able to fire off guns whenever they want, than that children be safe going to school.
(And no, don’t give me that “it won’t reduce school shootings” garbage. Even within the US, the states with the least gun control are the states with the most school shootings. So even if you assume “American Exceptionalism”, a.k.a. a total ignorance of how well gun control works in the rest of the world, you can’t explain why people still believe that BS.)
It’s not just that the argument against abortion is based on a bunch of scientific and philosophical fallacies. It’s that *even if you accept every one of those fallacies as true,* the right-wing anti-abortion position in the US is fundamentally hypocritical. It tells us that one specific form of (supposed, not actual) child murder is bad, but *all these other ones* are absolutely fine, normal, even justified.
“God doesn’t permit the murder of children!”
lol yeah he does… have you read the Old Testament?
Sadly it's not just the Old Testament. The New Testament has pro slavery lines in it.
"Shrimp on the barbie" Old Testament style.
Yeah, Abraham and Isaac would like to have a word.
Psalms 137:9 "blessed is he who seizes your infants and dashes them against rocks"
@@drewberrymore2415Context is important. That passage is a continuation of 137:8 which speaks of retribution against their enemies - a theme that the former president is fond of promoting.
"He deserves to lose..." for a multitude of reasons. As always, well stated. Thank you, Steve.
As soon as it becomes clear that it will hurt him, he'll reverse his position and deny having ever said otherwise and his minions will pretend right along with him.
We have always been at war with Eurasia!
Yea but your hypocrites and cherry pickers when it comes to joe biden on abortion
He’s already done that. He bragged about roe v wade and then he said he wants a national 15 week ban and then he says he doesn’t want a national ban. He’ll say anything
At this point I'll take any reason for Donald Trump to lose as long as he doesn't get a second term. Sadly the fact he got elected once is a scary reminder that he could actually win again. It would be great though if he just set fire to his own base with statements like these and brought about his own loss.
7:32 _"...his loyalty is to himself. There is not another person on this planet Donald Trump would not shove into the lion's mouth if he thought it would keep the lion from eating..."_
*...a burger he **_really_** wanted.* _[fixed it for you]_
Plenty of people would sacrifice others to save their own life (whether literally or metaphorically) but he's shown a willingness to screw over just about _anyone_ for *far* less.
7:58 My question is, did Steve do something to the color grading of Trump's video for comedy, or did the campaign truly put out a video of him looking so obviously caked in orange makeup?
Butters: That’s my face, sir!
@@jimballard1186he always looks shit-caked. I think only 2x in my life have I seen him look normally tan.
"under any circumstances" Matt?
Guess he's just going to conveniently overlook all those cases in the bible where abortions are performed, described how to perform, or pregnant women are killed.
Yup, no circumstances...
A little thing like what's actually in the bible is of no consequence to those who have mastered the fine art of cherry picking.
In 2 Kings 2: 23-24
God sends bears to “tear fourty and two” children because they mocked the prophet Elisha for being bald.
There are circumstances, Matt! There are circumstances.
In the bible a foetus is never more valuable than a donkey, and often less valuable.
Not to mention very explicit instructions regarding the people of Canaan... including the children.
Trump has no values beyond his desire to be on the winning side. There _must_ be a way to use that against him, right? He's not Machiavelli. So why is it so hard for democrats to outsmart him?
I hope stupid Trump doesn't become president again, that would be a catastrophe not only for the USA but also for the rest of the world. Greetings from Germany, I love your channel!
It he does we'll get to see what the rest of the world does with 200+ million refugees.
from the UK, couldn't have put it better myself
@@StormsparkPegasus The last time this was planned, they just gave up on deporting all of them because it was completely impractical, and looked for different ways of "taking care" of the "undesirables".
Hopefully he'll lose anyway, but losing over his stance on abortion would be hilarious. Too bad thats the only thing some of his supporters dislike about him.
Not the only thing. They also booed him offstage for encouraging them to take the vaccine and hated him paying lip service to bring a gracious winner by saying Hillary Clinton had had a long, brutal campaign and had suffered enough, and his party wouldn't support him on infrastructure spending.
They only turn on him on the vanishingly rare occasions where he tries to appear halfway reasonable about anything.
The ad Biden dropped after the announcement is fire.
Protestia owes me money, because "the Slurry of Blood and Bone" is the name of my edgy fantasy novel and they clearly stole it from me.
He attempted to do what he always does, dance around an issue and try to take both sides. He does this all the time in interviews when he is asked questions.
Matt Walsh: "Rights are God given and God does not give anyone the right, under any circumstance, to kill children."
Me: "Seriously man, have you _ever_ read the bible?"
There's a whole abortion procedure in there and it's God approved. It's because of Infidelity, not life or freedom of the mother, but still it's in there.
As a proud queer person, that flag behind you is so terrible. I love it! 🏳️🌈
Looks like a gay chessboard having a stronk
Maryland is less a state and more a group of flag-and-crab centric cults.
As a native Baltimoron, I personally love the flag this way :)
@@airplanes_aren.t_realA stronk?
Anyway, the funniest part is, this is the man who says he would have done a better job at negotiating a peace between the states, in 1860. 🙄
Just moved his checker onto one of the red squares and proudly proclaimed "FULL YAHTZEE!"
I get that you were going for "so stupid that he mixes up his simple board/dice games"
But I also like the checkers analogy because he could have also proudly proclaimed "KING ME" because that's what he wants, to be a king, not a president
Whilest thinking he was playing Stratego.
That closer line was the shit.
He was signaling that he's going to do a national ban, but needs to win to do it. He knows that some of his base will not like that, but is fine with the "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" state's rights statement.
With any other candidate, I’d agree with you. They don’t seem to believe that though, or they wouldn’t be going apeshit. The simple fact is, they can’t predict what Trump is actually going to do, because of how capricious he is, so ALL they have to go by is what he says in the moment.
I don't think this is true at all. It's now how Trump signals. He uses very obvious dogwhistles or even just says things outright. He doesn't say the opposite of what he means as a signal. He just changes his opinion a lot.
And I don't think you realize how much of his base he loses if people believe him. A significant portion of that Evangelical base are single-issue voters on abortion. That's why they were willing to ignore everything else about Trump.
Plus, it's not like this would bring in anyone who doesn't want an abortion ban. Roe was the compromise position, as it banned abortion after the second trimester except for health of the mother reasons.
His best move was to not say anything, and let people continue to believe one way or the other. That's what he did in 2016. The only reason to do this is that he's worried he's going to lose.
I would hope so for the good of all of us
Ah yes. “States’ Rights”. What could possibly go wrong?
...and it always comes down to a state's right to control people.
It's about state's rights until the state decides to legalize it then it's about the "life of the child", the sanctity of marriage, or whatever the next goal post is.
Soon as I saw clips from Trump's little video, I immediately thought, "He just guaranteed a second Biden term."
But my intuition has been wrong before....
It's too far out from the election to matter. People's memories are too short
"Trump is an ego." That's a succinct and eloquent way to describe him. His ego and desperate need to be loved and adored has completely consumed him. Back in 08 he publicly endorsed Hilary during the primary. His positions on everything flipflopped all the time. He would allegedly show up to charity auctions he wasn't invited to just so he could be seen with the celebrities there. He truly is a husk of a person.
It's extremely frustrating to me as an outside observer--not an American, but like everyone else profoundly affected by what goes on there--to see Biden enter this election cycle with a slam-dunk, and then apparently decide that supporting a genocide is more important than being re-elected.
Now Trump is apparently also trying to make himself unelectable, and we'll see how that goes. He tried very hard to make himself unelectable in 2016, and still managed to win by accident.
Trump don’t play chess. He plays hungry hungry hippos
Eh. Strategically I think this was the only thing he could do. Staking out a federalist position risks alienating some of his base, but they’re still mostly going to vote for him, and the major anti-abortion groups have all reaffirmed their endorsement. The much, much bigger risk is general election voters thinking another Trump administration means a national abortion ban. This is a terrible issue for them everywhere but the deepest red states. Basically every political ad in Virginia last cycle was Dems running on “my opponent would ban abortion” and Republicans desperately swearing up and down that they wouldn’t.
Also I doubt he’ll push for it, because he doesn’t particularly care about the issue either way except as a lever for Evangelical support, but if a Republican Congress ever did manage to pass a national ban I don’t think there’s any question he’d sign it, and these folks all know it.
Also worth mentioning that Trump's only real chance of avoiding prison is if he wins the next election. Half-expected to hear that motivation during the part about his ego and how he has no values, only serves himself.
Imagine voting against Trump because of his opinion on abortion instead of his opinion on taking power through violence. Imagine thinking that abortion is more important than American democracy. So long as democracy survives, there will always be chances to deal with abortion.
One would hope that "Reason" would cost Trump the election, but the lack of it seems to be keeping him in the running.
I was going to say that he can’t ban abortion because his lifestyle/habits/morality requires that abortion be a readily available resource, but the rich can probably procure abortions without much trouble even if they’re illegal.
They can easily fly their pregnant mistresses to another country if necessary. Although, laws never seem to interfere with their wants.
Trump is old enough that he's probably not worried about it. And he doesn't care about helping anyone else.
Checker onto one of the red squares 😂
Some people are saying that trump might have paid for a few abortions over the years. I'm not saying has, but people are talking, maybe you should do your own research
Once they have abortion completely banned, with no exceptions, will they be satisfied?
I feel they will consider that a first step in the plan to ban pre-marital sex!
Considering the candidates' ages it will probably come down to who's going to be still alive when US election comes.
well he didn't abort don jr and eric, and trump's still here, but clearly they took a toll on him
7:30 Without hyperbole, I do not believe Trump loves his family. At least in the sense of actual human love like the majority of us would identify. To actually love another human being, you have to be able to put them above yourself, and I do not think Trump is genuinely capable of this. I would bet any amount of money that if push came to shove, he would sell out his wife and children in a last ditch attempt to defer consequence to himself if he deemed it necessary. If he could somehow try and shift the blame to Melania to avoid jail time, he would do it.
He's probably got an ordered list of who to throw under the bus, and his family would be on it. Possibly near the end of it, but they'd be there, because he does not care about a single person alive more than himself. The idea that he was in charge of our country, and that people think he should be again, is nightmarish.
Perfectly said
Words can not describe how happy I am that you are CONSISTENTLY on the correct side of these major issues… trans rights, marriage equality, separation of church and state, 2A, abortion, genocide(apparently this is up for debate for some)…. Not only do you have good taste in Star Trek, and other media… But you remain spot on politically.
The number of creators that I have lost faith in because they are pro genocide is staggering
While I think we'd all assume that a hardcore Trek fan would have a generally progressive socio-political attitude towards issues, the absolutely tone deaf "STAR TREK IS WOKE!" crying from conservative Trek fans sadly proves that is not the case.
We're pro-life! Now please let us get back to bankrolling child starvation...
Excellent you are in laying out an accurate "both sides" in the first half of a minute of the video. Well done!
“Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!”
“States rights to do what?”
Neither candidate is especially popular, so... yeah, feel like at this point it's just about who manages to piss off the fewest people.
The glasses look good on you. What brand are the frames? You may want to look into adjusting how you do lighting to minimize reflection off the lenses.
As for the topic, there is no universe where Trump should win, and I hope with every fiber of my being that not only can we collectively prevent him from becoming president again but get full control of Congress away from those that support him.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WINNING THE ELECTION. Who told him he should be saying that out loud??? Holy shit
I feel like the Arizona GOP just gave Biden Arizona.
If an abortion referendum actually makes it to the ballot in AZ, that probably IS good news for Biden.
Fingers crossed.
A leave it to the States attitude towards slavery split the Democrats in two once upon a time, and that's how Lincoln got elected. We know how that ended... Trump isn't a very clever man.
Well, I mean he’s not a student of history, so…
Trump is not 5 dimensional chess he’s dementia chess.
I still dont get it, why a candidate that already did incite a violent insurrection at the capital is even remotely considered a serious contender in a democracy loving country. And btw. abortion.. sorry whatever view one has, this one does make sense to regulate on a country wide level, because of mobility of affected.
And yes, Trump is not a Republican, he is an egoistic island that took over that party.
Whether Trump wins will come down to the same swing states as last time. This decision by the Arizona Supreme Court will help Biden win the state, but may not matter in a state like Michigan or Wisconsin. Michigan, in particular, could pose a problem if Muslim Americans, angry at Biden over his handling of Gaza, refuse to vote for him. Arizona has 11 electoral votes, but Michigan has 15. Abortion, as an issue, seems to help Democrats more in areas where Republicans are in charge. This is one reason why Republicans flipped House seats in New York in 2022. Democrats couldn’t use abortion as a big motivator since abortion rights weren’t at risk in New York.
Go Steve Go!!
I (mercifully) haven't seen Trump on video in a while, so my first thought is, good god how is it possible that he's gotten even worse at doing his makeup?! You'd think that someone who's spent the last 40 years scamming people and refusing to pay his bills could afford to hire someone competent to do that for him.

3:07 // Psalm 137:9, Exodus 21:17, Numbers 5:19-22, the flood, Job, etc, etc, etc.
Fun Fact: Susan B. Anthony was not ant-abortion.
It's such a shame that she can't defend herself anymore against people abusing her name.
Is anyone else feeling like this is gonna be 2016 but reversed? Divisive primary that drives off a huge chunk of the base, an incompetent and clueless candidate who's politics are stuck eight years behind, polls so good you don't even gotta vote...
This election is absolutely wild, and... that is not a good thing.
It’s a wild , amazing and devastating time to be alive - all at once!
I am feeling exactly that, thanks for asking
love the glasses!! and we can only hope!
There was once a notion to leave Slavery up to States to deal with……however, the republicans felt it was a moral ‘sin’ worth abolishing.
Now some feel the same about Abortion…….hopefully they go full Sherman about it.
NOT JUST the election, and Trump's freedom (to avoid conviction).
I like the new glasses. As to the topic, it shouldn't be abortion that costs trump the election, it should be abortion + EVERYTHING else about trump that should cost him any election.
I had not been following closely, I assumed from the title that this would be about how support for repealing bans on abortion via state plebiscites would rally people who will vote against Trump to show up at the polls and ensure his defeat. As others have said his split the difference approach here is probably calculated to keep people who might vote against him apathetic enough not to go to the polls and cast a vote for Biden, rather than trying to win votes. It may however as this video suggests lose him enough participation from his rabidly antiabortion supporters to cost him the vote, we live in hope.
Basically this US election may come down to participation (which I think is often said to be true of US elections?) and who manages to avoid alienating the smallest portion of their potential voters and motivates the largest portion of their potential voters while not motivating their opponents voters to show up.
The thing I can't believe about this is that no one has shown up with receipts from the abortion of Trump's "love child" that Trump paid for (or more likely said he would pay for and then welched on paying for). I mean I guess there are any number of ways to avoid unwanted pregnancies, but for a man by most accounts with the mores and scruples of an alley cat it would be no surprise to me if there had been a couple he had gotten rid of in that way. It would be morbidly interesting to know if his supporters could square the circle of supporting someone who helped abet an abortion the way they have squared away Trump's many other acts of indecency etc. I suspect they could but these things are hard to predict.
I would urge people not think that Trump is going to lose because that will not motivate you to go to the polls.
I remember when abortion divided the Dems and united the GOP, now it’s the exact opposite. Anything can change in politics, folks.
Yes. Next question, please.
Say what you want about either party, but the Republicans and Democrats are both very fiercely dedicated to appealing to the Republican base.
Netanyahu is Trump’s bestie.
One point of disagreement:
Trump is an id, not an ego.
great closing line Steve

Lots of unwanted children will be born now.
Love the glasses Steve!
I read that as "Abortion cost Trump the eRection"
does this mean I am a bad person as well as being a pervert?
There was a time I thought Trump was playing a higher demential game. Not that he was smart but just… i danno… clever at manipulating people? As time has passed i have realized the dimension he operates in is entitled rich jerk… he says terrible things about people because he can get away with it because he has the money to. He gets away with crimes because he has the money to. He appeals and appeals and appeals, because he has the resources and money to . He doesn’t pay people he is in contract with and doesn’t pay his taxes because he has the money not to have to.
I just can't shake how messed up it is. I refused to support Trump for a myriad of reasons, many were brought up in this video. But I also can't vote for Biden, the genocide being one issue that's led to my overall conclusion.
To denounce a monster like Trump, we're all too willing to hinge on a broken system that forces us all to enforce genocide? I'm honestly upset that more people aren't talking about other options because that's not ok.
I’m just waiting to see if this will push Donny to create his own party.
Greater good = lesser bad.
Be prepared for the October Surprise.
His followers don't actually give a shit about issues. They'll follow him anywhere even it costs them life saving public services. 😂
1 of thousands of reasons
I like your wallpaper on the monitor.
Government of the people, by the people, for the people.
When you remember that corporation are people this definitely makes sense.
Also that people’s voices matter as much as they have spare money to spend on politicians.
As important as the issue of abortion is, there are so MANY other reasons Trump shouldn't be anything more than a bad memory. What is wrong with so many Americans??
Applause.
Probably not
Ok. I didn't get far into this yet. So you may address this, but "God doesn't give anyone, under any circumstances the right to kill children" is an interesting take from someone who claims to be a christian.
"Thus says the Lord of hosts, 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he set himself against him on the way while he was coming up from Egypt. Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'" (1 Samuel 15:2-3, ESV)
I'm not a bible literalist and historically it's actually fairly unlikely that they actually did it as this was written long after. but for those who want to use the bible to control other people perhaps they should learn what it says first.
The glasses are a nice look for you Steve!
God, I certainly hope so.
I'm worried that Republicans are moving away from Trump, and starting to work more separately. I'm worried it's going to turn into 'Trump's gone, but not much else changed.'
Yup...
You look fabulous ❤
If the felonies don't get him first.
I don't think the abortion issue will cost him the election is this way. Where it is really going to hurt him is those states with it on the ballot. Voter turnout will increase for people for favor the right to choose who are most likely Biden or at least Anti-Trump voters. That is where it will hurt him the most.
God does not give rights. He gives commands. Your rights are not given to you by someone else, whether it's God, the government, or anyone else. They are inherent. It's usually those figures that try to convince you that you don't have certain rights, if it's inconvenient for them.
