It's crazy how insensitive people are in the comments. Yeah he's not a pro, but look who doesn't have human decency: you guys.
I think it turned out great!
I like people that can modify and fix cars well and not spend thousands of dollars. I like that.
He is Walt jr.
hahaha i was totally thinking the same thing
Trenton regenhard thank God I wasn't the only one
🤣
My wife was thinking that too LMAO
Fr!!!!!
Love the end result. Looks great, GetJeeping. You've inspired me.
Self-etching primer is for use on metal, not plastic. Don't waste the money. Get a primer that is made for plastic and is made to be flexible. Also, I've used that same spray can bedliner and it does NOT hold up; chips off even with good prep. Don't waste the $8 per can. Use Crylon Fusion; it has the proper chemical makeup to adhere to plastics.
And as outside input: I like the idea of your channel but can't understand many of the words you say. Speak slower and enunciate! Thanks for uploading.
Agreed.. this bed liner does not hold up on Jeep TJ fenders.
Agreed on your speech.......can’t understand you at all
True also etching primer is more for exposed bare metal, you may use a primer sealer next time or an epoxy primer to skip the etching primer for small areas the show exposed bare metal. Over looks good and amazing but for the long run, it may start to peel off.
that turned out a lot better than i thought it would. i may have to do this.
Looks great! I’m fixing on doing my JK fenders with same paint you used
Nice, thanks, it's on my to do list this next week.
That looks awesome! Thanks for the cool vid!
Looks good. Nice work.
Looks good! thank you for showing!
"Rustoloeluminum"
Hahahahahaha... I thought I heard that correctly.. lol
Lol I caught that too
Evan Falbo I heard rushhtalumimum
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Guess it's a brand name or something.
Looks great! Mine are faded. Not for long.
Very informative.
sweet! I will be doing this tomm on my day off, thanks a lot
Wow great job man, subscribed.
Great job you’ve done ✔️
Good video. Thanks for the idea.
Great paint job! Thanks 4 sharing :-)
Just what I needed to know great job thanks for the video. SemperFi
awesome vids man ur very helpfull...ur jeeps are are badass man
Going to try thanks
Dude it looks really good! I think I might try to remove mine but if that turns into too much work I'm going to use the same method you did. Nice job!
After watching a video on removing the fender flares which looked to be a royal pain in the ass, I have decided to tape and paint them like you did.
Thanks again
How did it turn out?! About to do it
Awesome videos! Keep it up!
Looks great!
Eastwood has some new black plastic paint might be worth looking at too. Looks great
Looks good.
nice work
Looks good! I would guess that flat black would work just as well, it wouldn't have the texture to it though.
By chance did you play Walter White Jr. In the show Breaking Bad?
bro... first thing i thought!!
I was convinced this was RJ Mitte. Your voice sounds very similar dude! Thanks for the great tips here!
Nice job im doing the samento my jk flares as soon as the weather gets good
Or you could use Mother's Back to Black. It got amazing results on my faded fender flares.
Nicely done. I just take mine off, sand them evenly done and spray them that way with a primer coat, 2 finishing, and the clear coat it.
Great job! Are your fender flares metal or plastic?
I have also found that using a very light first coat seems to work well, as paint seems to stick to paint the best. I profess to be no paint and body man though, ymmv. You would think after all these years Jeep would have gotten this faded fender problem worked out, Oh well, I love my Jeep regardless.
Good video
I can't stand the way you are using those spray cans. Should be long smooth, continuous, sweeping sprays. Not spurt spurt spurt. Ridiculous... blotch heaven that way
BeeSeeBee I agree, that's why he does not get even coats.
It hurts to watch...
What kind of plastic bags are those? looks great by the way! and for those who said about painting outdoors, not everyone has a garage and we do the best with what we got.
THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SKIN THE CAT.
What matters is results.
NICE!
Yeah but its not as strong but i did plasti dip my wheels black. Ill have a video coming on that.
Nice!
Primer is mandatory ? I want simply cover my black abs bumpers (Renault Kangoo minivan). Ok for a minimum sanding.
have you ever seen it done using clear coat afterwards?
If your fenders are just faded from the exposure to UV light just use a heat gun you can pick one up fairly cheap at harbor freight and best of all no prep work necessary except for it being clean. Keep heat on one spot at about 1000 degrees F. the II setting on that particular model until the plastic turns dark and slowly go across the fender renewing all the non painted plastic parts. I wouldn't recommend DIY spray on bedliner if your planning on offroading it that stuff scuffs off easy. Maybe a DIY polyurethane bedliner or getting it professionally lined.
That harbor freight heat gun is a POS. His fender was chipped so heat would not do any good anyway . painting was a better fix.
The heat gun trick is a short-term fix that, over time, will make your fenders brittle.
How has this held up?
Good idea dude. I'll probably pull mine off and remove the lights before I sand them, but I like the idea of using the spray bed liner. Couple of questions - does it tear up sponges/towels when you wash it? Did you ever use the clear coat on them? How did it turn out?
I hear the screws are hard to put back in on a 97 Wrangler. Better to just mask off. Per a body shop.
Lee Sires nope they are easy if you know what you’re doing
Almost perfect, liked the way you cover anything and you knew about the primer, but you needed to coat of primer and send it in between and then 2 coat of bedliner...the way you did it will have more texture to it...but it’s bedliner i guess it doesn’t really matter
Rust-O-Lee-Um👍🏻
How is it holding up?
You don't need to paint it. Use a heat gun from home depot it works like a charm. I did it on my jeep wrangler tj and made those faded fender flares like new. Is a whole lot easier !
Work for me also
Ive heard that.
Over time it will cause your fenders to become rally brittle. Don't do it.
Will someone be able of painting also a roof of a wrangler with that paint thanks
dude sounds like walter junior
Flynn is hookin up the fenders!
Is that a better option than plasti dip?
Can undercoat be used?
park lights ez tak out
i plasti dipped my rims and grill on my jeep and havent had any problems yet
Ignore the negative comments but take inn the constructive criticism. Looks good to me 👍. Subbed
Dude can't believe you put those paint cans on your hood lie that! I agree that taking the flares off is the way to go. Might even take less time then taping. Mother's only lasts until the next time mud hits the flares.
What knife is that?
have you thought about plastidip?
you are not supposed to spray and stop spray over the suraface your painting. continuous spray.
"an old tower"
SEM ftw
What is the Facebook you made?
clean them with grease remover acholl
"Rustalumamum?"
I noticed it too lmaoooo
hahahahaa
ruussalumiom...jesus...lol
Before you sanded the fender, was the texture a bit rough? as in it's not pure smooth. I want to spray to match my car's body color, with gloss, though now it's matte with small pores (matte), not really sure of the steps I should approach this. Should I sand it first to make it smooth then apply black paint then gloss, or I can just skip the sanding to spraying.
If your going to paint them the right way take them off! It's not hard unless you feel like spending an 20 bucks and a extra couple of hours taping and covering your Jeep in plastic!
why does everyone tape? do you not know how easy it is to take the fenders off over taping them? Tapings more time consuming as well.
+jkiller199 Have you ever taken the fenders off of a TJ? It is a PITA and it can take all day to get all four off plus the two small extensions....and they're just as difficult to get back on.
Been there, done that. It's especially nice when one or more of the tacked in nuts breaks loose and just spins with the screw. Taping is sometimes the only way.
jkiller199 you most not have a Jeep...
You sound just like Walt Jr from breaking bad
Get the cans off of the hood man! adding scratches to remove scratches lol
It is really easy to remove the fenders. Why not just remove the fender and then paint it. That way you would make sure not to get paint on the Jeep, or have any spots that were blocked by tape. It looks like you did a great job taping it, but for me it would have been easier to just remove it.
K McC removing TJ fenders is a well known nightmare
I wanna smoke what you smoke pal
WTF...."Wipe down your shurface" 1:22 lol
80grit is to rough
You could just take the fenders off
This being a TJ 97-06 model. I'm guessing that you don't own one. Not as easy as it sounds.
Absolutely an uneasy task to take the fenders off!
~USE HEAT NOT PAINT!!~
IF YOUR FLARES HAVE NEVER BEEN PAINTED...HIT THEM WITH A HEAT GUN IT WILL RESTORE THEM TO ALMOST NEW ASIDE FROM DEEP SCRATCHES.
YOU CAN USE A PROPANE TORCH TOO BUT PRACTICE ON A HIDDEN SPOT BECAUSE THAT'S INTENSE HEAT AND CHANGES THE SURFACE REALLY FAST
Not worth the trouble. Did mine and it was terrible. I'll do this.
did heat on landrover d2 didn't work sometimes plastic is too far gone but heat works great on spare wheel covers and most plastics I agree!
Tried it with a heat gun. Painting looks much better.
take the fenders off
+NiftyTan Not sure if you've ever taken the fenders off of a Jeep, but it can turn into an all day job....
Patience is key, but Its pretty easy! Just don't lose the fittings. Took mine off my 1999 Jeep Tj a few years back, used some good coats of spray paint thats adaptable with plastics. Slapped them back on in the morning and said "Fuck You fenders for fading in the first place."
MRAKRAK it is quicker to take off the fenders than to cover the car
Say rustolium again.
Turned out nice, not the best way to achieve this finish...
Breaking Bad!
Take them off...
The correct way to do this is to DYE the fender flares not paint them!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need to unsee this
Don't paint restore the plastic black
Ugh, you're using that spray like an axe on that fender. Why are you chopping at it like that and creating pools and thin spots? It's not going to wear and fade evenly, with the thin spots giving you trouble quick.
Strip it down and start again, this time sanding with 220 to scuff, covering evenly and completely with the primer, then the same with the paint. Three even coats with the paint will make the future you a lot happier as well.
You better check to see if that product can take a clear coat too before just blasting it on. You won't get away with that choppy spraying with the clear coat either.
If you screw like you paint, you're woman will eventually take her business to a more skilled service representative my man. I would imagine she fast forwards a lot as well.
"wipe down your shurface" sorry man, not making fun of you but accents can be funny sometimes.
Damn dude, how drunk are you.???
Even so, results look good
Just take the fender off.
ARGHHHHH!! That is not how you use a spray can!!!
Sounds like his mouth is full of mashed potatoes. Painful to watch. "If you don't get it even, you won't get it even" ... no truer words were never spoken
you should try black women. they tasty
Poor jeep 😢
Sorry but you should practice on scrap yard cars before messing with your own car
This guy sounds drunk.
I was thinking a mouth full of marbles, but yeah.
who paints outside?
poor folk like me :)
And people like me who do not have a garage. Seems like an obvious answer!
And people like me who do not have a garage. Seems like an obvious answer!
Dude needs to learn how to close his mouth when he talks. So much work could have been done a bunch of different ways a lot easier and quicker. I love UA-cam most of the video on here are of people that think they are pros at something if they would only watch all the other videos on the same thing they would see how to do it right.
