I met Jackson Browne in 1972. He's knowledgeable with a poet's heart and a pirate's smile. Very kind and open.

This is the big time. Jackson's first 5 albums were all masterpieces and Late For The Sky may be the best overall. David Lindley's work on this album is incredible and Jackson's lyrical genius shines thru. He's not only a member of the RRHOF (inducted by Springsteen), but the Songriters HOF as well. One gem from this album that sometimes get's overlooked is The Late Show which is probably my overall favorite on an album full of brilliance.

Best album of his career … also the car on the album “Late for the sky” cover was a gift from his good friend Glenn Frey of the Eagles , Jackson also wrote the Eagles first hit song “Peaceful easy feeling”

I think you mean Take it Easy, which Jackson technically co-wrote with Glenn Frey, but it was mostly Jackson’s song. It became the Eagles’ first big hit.

I bought the Late For The Sky album because of one song I'd heard on the radio. That song was Fountain of Sorrow. Little did I know at the time there isn't a bad song on the album. This song, Fountain of Sorrow, After the Deluge, and especially the title song, Late For the Sky are my favorites and I encourage you to check them all out. Jackson Brown has an amazing talent for writing song lyrics that may mean one thing to him, but after listening, you swear he wrote the song just for you.

Greatest song of all time, from the greatest album of all time Late For The Sky. It was written about a friend of his who was a gay man who was a dancer and a tailor and general wonderful man. I have heard Jackson tell the story of this song. After the massacre in Orlando at the Pulse he dedicated this song to those murdered in hate. I am about to be 55 and literally grew up on his music from his very first album. This song will be at my memorial and my mother’s too as she raised me on his music. Most people don’t get to have the same favorite musician from the time they are like 4 years old.

I first saw JB singing this song accompanied by David Lindley on fiddle on BBC TV in the UK around 1975. I immediately fell in love with his music, and have loved it ever since. The man is a poetic genius and still making and performing great music. "Late for the Sky" is an absolute masterpiece of an album.

The late great David Lindley plays the beautiful violin on this song. David passed in 2023 and had been a musical partner of Jackson Browne's for many years in the 70s. I believe he could play just about any string instrument, but notably played slide guitar on the Running on Empty album and sang the hight part in the song Stay.

The 'LATE FOR THE SKY' album is Jackson Browne's Masterpiece. Every song is a must-listen-to Desert Island track.
Browne stretched the limits of what could be found in what he called "the beauty in songs. This is one of the records you hear the
air trembling between instruments, making silence audible and meaningful. In terms of totality, feelings, and perfection, this
album is at the very top. Although all of the songs are pure masterpieces, there are four songs that touch me every time
I hear them: "Late For The Sky," "For A Dancer," Fountain of Sorrow, and "Before The Deluge." I'm now 75 years old, and it in my
    top 5 albums ever.

Wonderful bass line by Leland Sklar on this recording. Lee has his own channel, which is very entertaining. He's played on hundreds of albums as a session musician, and he has the best stories about all of the artists he's played with, including Jackson.

"And somewhere between the time you arrive
    And the time you go
May lie a reason you were alive that you'll never know"
We think we know our purpose here on earth, we think we know what we want to do with our lives, but the reason could be something as simple as the time you smiled at a stranger or said a kind word to someone. To you, what you did was a small thing, but it had a huge impact on the person who needed a smile or a kind word at just the right moment. And that was the reason you were alive.
I love how Jackson thinks. It's like he's got a direct line into the mysteries of being human.

Hi Shawn. This is truly one of the best songs Jackson ever released. It's so deep and beautiful, I weep when I hear it. I had asked you to react to this song the last time you did a Jackson Brown song. I'm so happy you're hearing it now. It will blow you away! Now, to the video and your comments...
Back after your reaction. Beautiful, Shawn, just beautiful. JB's ending lyrics are - "Between the time you arrive and the time you go may lie a reason you were alive, but you'll never know." That, to me is the meaning in the song. Do your best to be your best, no matter what life throws your way (like your Mother) and you WILL know the reason you were alive - you inspired and helped others navigate their problems and came out a better person (not bitter.) My mother was the same as yours - she gave me strength to keep going and grow into a better person. She been gone over 30 yrs, but her words and actions are still alive and with me today.

An absolutely beautifully written and performed song. Writers of Jackson’s depth and skill are truly rare. His catalogue of work is filled with songs like For A Dancer. If you are a music listener outside of your reaction channel, I urge you to go through Jackson Browne’s many albums. In my opinion, he stands right up there with Dylan, Paul Simon and other greats. I also echo about the work of the late David Lindley. Lindley was a virtuoso musician who meant a lot to JB’s sound along with many other musicians of the era. If it had strings, Lindley could play it.

Along similar lines - I've recently heard that we really die twice. We have the physical death, the one we all recognize but there is also a second one...the last time anyone ever says your name, which could be many years later and will be largely determined by the imprint we've left on the lives of others. Hearing this song again after hearing that just sort of strengthens the song's message for me and adds a little depth to it.

Purely by chance I happened to find this song soon after my dad died. I actually played it back to back for hours. I gushed and flooded tears. It was so very profound . Strangely it purged me and I felt much better after it. During hearing it ,time after images and my favourite Moments with him cascaded through my mind . And, ultimately, it has a message of hope. Live your life to the full,we never, even know what's round the corner and tell the people you love that you love them.

A powerful affirmation of life, packaged as a meditation on death... Live life fully in the face of its apparent meaninglessness. And it's all wrapped up in a poignant and beautiful song. This is just a stellar artistic and musical achievement. God bless Jackson Browne.
