By the way, this video really needs a PART 2 as there is apparently custom firmware now available (although it's not clear if it's available only for the android version only or also for the linux version). Anyone knows?
Temper your expectations. His first impression of saturn is good but this thing isn't powerful enough to run the emulators that are compatible with all the games on Saturn and/or run them without graphical errors.
This device does play the Saturn games really well. Maybe not all but most of the good games work great on it on native resoluion. Yes it woult be beter if it had the Tiger 618 chip but still it runs most game flawless.@@retropulse03
I look at it more like a sega nomad, not a saturn thing. Mine came with saturn games though and it is a hit or miss, vf megamic runs horrible but panzer dragoon and sega rally run ok. I love this device hopefully it will be updated with a stronger processor to run all 32 bit without compromise
The reason there weren't Saturn isos on the device from them is simply because the file sizes are large. Chinese handhelds pride themselves on omg 10,000 games! Easy to do that if you load up a bunch of NES and Atari roms. Saturn, PS1, Dreamcast, Sega CD, PC Engine CD, those games games are large.
@@TroutButterExcept it can't play Saturn very well. RGT's video here isn't by any measure intentionally deceptive, but it's not painting an accurate picture of Saturn emulation here. I have this device, and it's great, but no one should buy this thing thinking it's going to emulate the Saturn library without errors at fullspeed. There simply isn't enough power.
I thought Saturn didn’t play well on this. I will say I don’t have a nostalgia for the Saturn but there were a mitfull of games I’ve always wanted to play. Fighting Vipers, Fighters Megamix, Sonic Xtreme (prototypes and fan recreations anyways) so I was disappointed that it couldn’t do it well… but here it is! I went from wanting one, to disappointed, to now really wanting one
It 100% depends on your definition of "Runs well". It will run, some games, in the yabasanshiro emulator, but absolutely DO NOT expect to run accurate emulation via beetle_saturn. What that means in plain terms is that some games won't work, some games will be great, some will have minor graphical errors, and some will be broken af. These reviewers aren't going in-depth enough in this regard, some say it sucks, some say it's great, but it entirely depends on what they are playing and HOW they are emulating it.
The Saturn was a fantastic system. I had one while it was current gen and I loved it. Still do, loads of fun unique games, especially now that a lot of the Japanese exclusives have been translated.
Bookmarked the page. Can’t buy on now due to medical bills from herniated disc and degenerative disc disease on my lower back😢. Awesome video too Mr. RGT85 not a Nintendo Switch UA-camr.😂just kidding about that. Seriously love that you are honest about everything you try.
Save your money if your interest is Saturn. RGT means well here, but he's not diving deep enough. It's not playing Saturn as well as he is led to believe. Some games will run well with an inaccurate emulator like he played here, but I would watch more reviews about the device before pulling the trigger. For my money (and I did buy one) It's not powerful enough to run the Saturn library at fullspeed without errors.
@@sir_hammy Think of emulation like translation. You're taking the language of one machine, and putting it into another. Because of this the end result can be very different. So if you compare something like YabaSanshiro2 to something like Beetle_Saturn you can start to see some of those differences. My favorite example is YabaSanshiro can't handle some of the ground textures in Sonic R. When you jump, you will see the textures float around. Another example is PowerSlave, there are holes in the rendering of walls, things don't line up correctly. It takes a lot of power to emulate Saturn correctly, it's a complex system, and while YabaSanshiro 'works' it isn't an accurate representation of the the Saturn software. You see this kind of thing with almost any emulator really, Sege Genesis sound reproduction was a big thing for long time, for example. There's also still a lot going on with N64. Most folks are using Glide64 RDP (Which, is pretty awesome in what it can do) but ParaLLEl accurately reproduces the VI filter that the system had - which drastically changes the look of each game.
Seen a few videos on this device, it would be good to get more information on saturn games which do not run well on this device, if it could play all of them without compromising gameplay that would make it 100% worth the money.

I woulf love it if you could do a video using a pc that can emulate up to Xbox, Wii and PS2 to hook it up with a CRT TV to have the ultimate retro experience
... This is weird because it doesn't run Saturn anywhere near what I would call "well". Like, in a sense of that it won't run games on the accurate emulator. It will run a good amount, passingly, using YabaSanshiro 2, so as long as you are playing a game that isn't riddled with graphical errors in that emulator (Like Sonic R, or PowerSlave for example) You could have a good saturn time with it. I think this starts highlighting a big difference between "Good enough" emulation and "Accurate" emulation I think "good enough" is well... good enough for most people. I just wouldn't get this if anyone is looking for accurate saturn emulation, 'cause this thing doesn't have the power to run something like beetle_saturn unfortunately.
I'm disappointed with mine. I feel like the ability to run ps2 would make it so much better. Many more excellent offerings on that system. I feel like the quality is not as good as I wanted it to be and that the d-pad is kinda weird and too small. Lack of analog sticks also holds it back. I would recommend getting the cheap transparent ones and skip out on the sd card. Load your own roms they have a lot of crappy Japanese roms on their preloaded cards. How am I supposed to play an RPG in Japanese? Come on now. It would be worth it at the cheaper price point. It's sad though because it can run n64 and dreamcast but without analog control it's really limited. At the cheaper price point it's good for retro fighting/sega fans. I bought the Japanese color variant with the 256g sd card. Made it too expensive and not worth it. At $80 I would've been happy but I had to get the classic Japanese Saturn color scheme.
