Shaw got a lot of PTSD that he can't forget or resolve. His time on the battlefield watching his commander's head explode like a melon and then his time at the military hospital hearing screaming men beg to not have more of their limbs amputated left a mental scar that just won't heal. It's like a constant intrusive thought that ruins his day, every day whenever he got a moment to himself, that's all he comes back to thinking about. I know lots of guys are like just "get over it" and just don't get it.

You’re definitely going to bring home some ghosts home with you if you’ve actively fought in a combat theater. I’ve got one buddy, to this day and at random times still swears he sees a kid he’d watched die in the Kandahar province in Afghanistan. He says he still sees him. I’ve got another buddy who won’t go anywhere near grocery bags that are just laying in the street or something because they fancied putting IED’s in grocery bags for men to run over or step on. I have my own ghosts as well, talking to anybody who has never been is basically just talking to a wall.
“People sleep peacefully in their beds at night because there are rough men who stay awake ready to commit brutal acts against their enemies in order to protect their oh so peaceful sleep”
