I'm 62, took a music theory class a few years back Once a week the instructor had one of us bring in one of our favorite songs to share with the class and break the song down. I brought in Golden Time of Day. My mostly unmelinated class was blown away silent. They were like, "who is this again?" I hope they went out and bought their album . I LOVE Frankie Beverly and Maze and I'll miss Frankie's voice and those Maze harmonies are unmatchable!

Raw Soul 1975 clips were live at Winterland, from Wolfgang's archive. You'll find Headhunters live on the same stage, same timeframe. The following year "The Last Waltz" was shot there. My first experience hearing Maze live was 1980 at Oakland Coliseum, same bill as LTD, George Duke and Taste of Honey - never heard so many Sisters swoon at a show - was a stone trip. got to know Frank 7 years later, thru a couple of band members, and wound up working on Silky Soul and Back to Basics, as he transitioned to Warner Bros. Joined his road crew in 1989, doing 3 European tours, 2 Arsenio appearances and Sinbad's 1st Soul Festival in San Martin (1995.) Having encountered his loyal fanbase in several countries, as well as all over this one, there is no limit to the love that flows forth. I can share that my first tour, as Production Mgr for Club Nouveau in 1987, had "Maze -Live in New Orleans" was on the box in tour bus damn near every day, and *shocker* Felton Pilate of ConFunkShun was on my crew. On the band name change, Frank told me directly that Marvin declared "Raw Soul" unfit, because Frank was tooooo smooth. Note that "Joy and Pain" preceded "Sexual Healing," and be aware that Frank plated the pop bottle ostinato on "Give It Up" (you'll hear his voice in the party scene intro.)

I first happened upon this group at an outdoor concert in Atlanta and remember that the crowd knew all of the words to every song too. I believe that was back in the 90's. I will never forget that Frankie Beverly came out with his signature white outfit on and eventually sang, We Are One, and as he sang, I could hear the entire audience singing along and I literally had a beautiful moment! I saw us at the concert in that moment As ONE! I was moved to tears! I knew then he was singing about the Love of God and the ONENESS of everything! I was probably in my mid twenties but had already by that time experienced just a portion of that God Love! I will Never forget that concert! I found out later that we share the same birthday!

I lived in a small town called Darby Township and can remember the numerous shows Frankie Beverly and Raw Soul at a bar called the Township Tavern. I knew the Organ player Sam Porter by way of my cousin who both went to Overbook High School. Outstanding performances then and still going strong. As I recall, Frankie Beverly’s sister even taught at Darby Township High School for a while.

I'm from the south so we did fish fry's when I was growing up. Maze music was a must have just like potato salad. I've seen them over 6 times and Phonte isn't lying, Mr. Beverly doesn't have sing a note. We all know and sing every word. Thank you for "Southern Girl" Mr. Beverly. You have always been the music industry best kept secret, but all your loyal fans don't mind keeping you to ourselves.

I lived in a small town called Darby Township and can remember the numerous shows Frankie Beverly and Raw Soul at a bar called the Township Tavern. I knew the Organ player Sam Porter by way of my cousin who both went to Overbook High School. Outstanding performances then and still going strong. As I recall, Frankie Beverly’s sister even taught at Darby Township High School for a while.
