"What rhymes with colonoscopy?" Royce 5'9 - "Tryin' not to adopt my father's old philosophies. Same time I'm prayin' to God that everything works out at his colonoscopy." Middle age MCing in full effect.
The Roots is the Frankie Beverley And Maze of Hip Hop. And if you are a 70's baby raised in the 80's you feel what i'm saying. when it comes to Hip Hop with live instruments and true and soulful music. The Legendary Roots Crew is bar none.
I bawled like a baby when I saw the show in Houston the moment I heard Black Thought back up Rakim. Didn't realize that The Roots were gonna play the whole 3 and a half hour show as every group's backing band. Thought was the ultimate hypeman. Best show I've seen in my entire life....
Phonte and Black Thought together in interview or music or art in any sense is some dope shit, 1 Luv to Brotha Quest too dope on drums and the 1's & 2's
It’s crazy that 3 Stacks says sarcastically, “what am I gonna talk about, getting a colonoscopy?” Yes! His fan base has gotten older and it’s dope to talk about real ish. Phonte’s album “No News Is Good News” is the DOPEST ish, EVER! Grown man music. “Expensive Genes” is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard. It poses real questions as an aging black man…
"It's been a revolution brewing for years, becoming human Now a face of the movement is calm, so when assumin' I travel many a road to arrive, at one conclusion God is not an illusion, I'm proof of the contribution"- Bad Lieutenant bka Black Thought

Things Fall Apart changed the way I saw a lot of things back in high school. These folks still change my perspective almost 25 years later. Thanks to all of you. I can’t express how much I’ve learned since discovering QLS in 2020. This is what we’ve all been waiting for 🙏
So good to watch this. Ahmir and Tariq are really brothers looking out for each other. Phonte with the good questions. The LB documentary was amazing and I cannot wait to read Tariq's book. He is my number one all time MC.
Years ago I met Tariq's doppelgänger in a small village called Umuobiakwa in Ngwa land South East Nigeria. He was a shaman and lives alone in the middle of a thick forest. His wife and kids stayed with his parents in the village. People were petrified of this dude for a good reason. The guy is the most unique person I have ever met, one of kind. His mind is a hive and works completely differently. The resemblance, the tone, even the smile is still mind boggling to this day. The strange thing about this story is that the man's name was Mazi Abali. Abali in Igbo is night. The first time I saw black thought in the video of What They Do. I almost had a heart attack. Again, the resemblance and even the slight very unique rasp in the voice is uncanny. It is amazing.
I’ve been a black thought/roots fan since the 90s, but I think I’m just now ready to say he’s top 10 of all time. They don’t have the hits, but the longevity and “moments” (this Force Tour hype man thing being one of them) puts it over the top.
This was so dope to see and hear. Being a big Roots fan for years, but aside from the music, the most I got from this interview was finding out what shows Tariq watches and hearing his journey through fatherhood. I loved this!
Well, Tariq....priceless explanation as I recently finished Mo Meta Blues as a Johhny Come Lately (10 years after it was published) and was confused as everybody else in 2013: no thank you to Tariq? Now we know. Great conversation. And great impersonation of LL Cool J (still one of my favorites, still so much energy). Thank you for this get together.
36:50 I REALLY appreciate the transparency here. "It's embarrassing...in the moment it made sense." I love that Tariq is detached from his mistakes and also aware of them. I'm learning how to not wish I would have done better all the time. Learning to embrace myself and be fully responsible for my results, so I won't keep looking to other people to do it.
It's so rare to hear anyone talk about "What The #$*! Do We (K)now?" even when it first came out. I was fortunate to attend a screening when it opened and was completely blown away. I expected the movie to be a part of many a conversation, but for some reason it didn't receive any big mainstream recognition. Glad it's still getting notice. It's a great film. Loved this podcast conversation with everyone. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏾😌💙🖤✨
Incredible episode. Thank you. So many good stories and creative insights. It's truly inspirational to witness masters of their crafts and you guys exude it constantly
I luv intelligent interviews and discussions great insight on a myriad of topics Black thought is a intellectual MC peace to Questlove and one of my favorites Phonte from the legendary Little Brother....Peace to you guys and enjoy listening
He was on 53rd and Osage, I was on 54th and Woodland.. 1.6 miles in West Philly. If we got sick, we went to CHOP. Tariq needs to come on and hang out when you can book someone big-name cool to interview that you both love.
I will never forget him. I always wondered why he didn't continue acting, I watched Brooklyn Babylon which I think I remember it bring called Solomons Song at the time, or something like it, in the 90s it was a quiet film, but really interesting. I don't remember the female lead much, but he had presence. Its a retelling of Solomons Song. Lots of train rides.
Super excited, perfect solstice activity. This & commune with trees. The light is on it's way. Rollcall ReQuest with Love for Part 2: A Freestyle Friendzy. Could be a whole part 3, considering who we have vibing here.
One of my favorite podcasts. Love the in depth interviews. This one was Highly anticipated. Down side..Quest really got carried away with making the interview about him. Phonte and It’s Laiya had their work cut out for them, redirecting the interview…

Very apt comparison!
So blessed to see black thought and rakim live on the force tour 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
