Al is not only a excellent musican. But also a nice person. Dayton, Ohio - he played Gilly's Night Club. I waited for him in lobby of hotel. I recognized him, black Avator glasses, black jacket, pants and boots. He asked if I knew where the club was that he was playing. I escorted him across the street. He said, "just stick with me". I attended sound check...show was outstanding 👌. I - ear - toe, was on percussion.
I was at this concert ,he was awesome ,he brought back the Gibson Les Paul Guitar, he gave a signing the previous time he performed at the Toronto City hall,I got his autograph and spoke to him, real nice gentleman.I Iistened to Aldi Meola since my High School days,My favorite albums where Elegant Gypsy and his live album in 1982,simply masterpieces,I'm 63 years old and I cant wait until he comes to town. I also so him with Return to Forever in 2006 with,Stanley Clarke,Chic Corea, and Lenny White, awesome.
It's taken me an eternity to really get Al di Meola. Have had the Elegant Gypsy disc for more than a decade, but only purchased it on recommendation. Have Kiss My Axe and World Symphonia for more than 2 decades. Found the music "okay" with Gypsy a bit out of reach, but lately I've put my finger on just what has kept me from really loving Al's music. I think it has to do with the radical transitions that are so common within every piece of music he does. I'm a longtime Chick Corea fan, an artist whose music could never be considered predictable, but to me Al's transitions were often too over-the-top. I don't know precisely what has changed with my own perception, but guess it must be down to age. Those same "over-the-top" variations which used to irk me most back then, are now strangely what I enjoy most. Really slow developer. but just happy to have finally arrived. Elegant Gypsy has become a start-to-end rapure for me. Even though I didn't always get it, I still have always considered Al a genius, just through his technical brilliance. But I now peceive his level of genius a few notches higher....
Unbelievable. I was 18 when I first heard Elegant Gypsy & Race With the Devil on a Spanish Highway blew my mind as did the whole album. I'm now 60 & still loving Al Di Melia. Please come to Sydney DownUnder Al! 👏😀
brilliance, melodic, and passionate. EG was the album that launched my journey into study and practitionership of the guitar at age 20. thanks Al for all your works. splendido!
Great track (that I imagine Tool listened to a lot) ✌🏻😂 Here’s my drum adaptation with drums throughout the whole intro: enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/bZcyMnUosFA/v-deo.html
PRS isn't the same for any previous Les Paul work. Listen to the revamped Cactus videos and compare Jim McCarty switching from his LP Custom to PRS/youcan really hear the difference !!!###
Middle section of that song is perhaps the most powerful and complex piece of fusion ever composed.....even hard for Al to reproduce live even himself.
I remember when this song came out from the Elegant Gypsy album, and many guitar players revered it because of Al's amazing technique. But many critics complained that Al was playing too many notes and "showing off speed." I suppose that's why on this live version in 2015 his runs are considerably slower.
I'm noticing the "FUCHS" head facing forward and the cab facing backward. That must eliminate a bit of stage sound from the cab mic/mics. Is that the reason? Is it clearer? Any sound guys out there have an opinion on that stage setup? And should we guitarists be following this example?
I believe Mr. Dimeola is playing the '59 burst that he sent back to Gibson to be refinished in Black- but it was "clown burst" so we can forgive him !!!###
A decent rendition, however, I do wish that Di Meola could have arranged for Jan Hammer playing a '70s era analog Mini Moog synth to join him onstage. Trading solos with digital electric piano doesn't sound appropriate in my estimation.

Thank you for the years of your passion

Elegant Gypsy one of the best albums ever. Thanks for sharing this video throughly enjoyed watching the master play
Watching this high as balls at 1:00am was an earth shattering experience
Absolutely amazing. Al Di Meola is so fast and flawless, a true master.

Al's band is as tight as ever. Loved when Al and his pianist were exchanging riffs. Gumbi kicks ass as a percussionist.
I Love him and his Music 🎶🎶🎶🎶
Classic cool!!My inspiration was to play like Al one day!Still working on it 48 years later.lol.
I hear you!
Me too!!
The dude looks great!
Ich kenne fast alle Alben in und auswendig.
Mit seinen Werken bin ich groß geworden
This is straight up TOOL / king crimson vibes, lovin it
Excellent feel on Al's tunes quite great..
I love him with the Les Paul stay away from that thin tone PRS. IMHO the PRS doesn’t cut it for his early work!

PRS guitars rule!!!
@@markrubenstein2704 Absolutely fantastic quality just not Al’s tone imho. Best outta the box guitars no doubt!
Gibson, Gretsch, or nothing.
It’s all relative to the artist. Whatever tool is needed for the job, works.
Middle section of that song is perhaps the most powerful and complex piece of fusion ever composed.....even hard for Al to reproduce live even himself.
SENSATIONAL PLAYING BY ALL!!!
They just dont make them like this anymore !! Love ya Al ,,
kolega Al i ostali prijatelji srdačan pozdrav
Thank you for sharing such amazing music
Big respect for this monster and master of masters guitarist.amazing musician.
Sumptuous performance and super Band ...to admire and listen with recollection.
I Love his tone 🤗🏄🏻♂️🥳
Armond Sabel Lecco, one of my favorite bass players
With Steve Gadd,Anthony Jackson and Jan Hammer was another story...but still a masterpiece
A completely different story… It’s like Toto the past decade, sounds like a cover band.
I'm hoping Mr. Di Meola is staying strong and feeling alright. 👍👍👍
Fantastic Al Di Meola ! the best !
Main riff sounds so modern
Probably my fav song from him and his band from EG
Awesome, big Al can really play, love his phrasings, I think it's time for me to buy a new Les Paul...
Thank you for posting!
Victoria Dean you are very welcome, btw do you know name of this song?
randallstaffordcook Flight Over Rio, off Elegant Gypsy!
Santana Vibes! 🎸🥁🪘🎸❤️
That's one impressive lineup!
Live erlebt 1988 in Bielefeld Oetker Halle.
Al Di Meola Projekt.

Return To Forever
What Fuchs amp is he playing in this?
Joel Taylor is such a monster on drums!
Muita onda !!!!!!!!!!!!1
Glad he went back to a Les Paul. Now that’s a real guitar.
I thought this was post COVID, what's up with conga player and the plexiglass?
isn't tabular bells (oldfield mike) meoldy at the beginning?
I am missing the energy that is on studio album.
I know what you mean. Probably more the sound quality here has snuffed out some energy.
What scale does this one favour?...
Egyonic.
Is that the 1977 guitar from Elegant Gypsy?
No. He used a LP Custom on that album
klasse
Wow....awesome video. Too bad they couldn't tie into the soundboard
Maestrisimos totales !!
Why'd they put my friend Joel Taylor on the side, out of view?
Why is his amp saying "fucks"?
I believe Mr. Dimeola is playing the '59 burst that he sent back to Gibson to be refinished in Black- but it was "clown burst" so we can forgive him !!!###

!!!!!.....
Gibson LP and prior MBs sounds better much better than the PRS and Fuchs. No doubt. Awesome playing, though.
Is that joebsatrini on the drums !?
All the bass players watching are going wild because he is using a PICK!!! OH NO!!
あるでぃめおら
Mr T on bass and russell crowe on guitar
would love to see Al with Mark Knopfler
Al...go play and enjoy your acoustic but come back and plug your Les Paul quickly in.
is this an authorized recording?

This is Rock not Jazz
Must be why it's so good
ライオットがまねしたべナリタだよ
I agree!
そう悪いこと
Yep.
100%
what has happened to you master Al, no inspiration? i understand, it's stress, and too much wheat consumption
We all get older...you too.
Boring, repetitive and obnoxious playing. A music with expiry date. Just my personal opinion ^^
