Al is like a great wine. As you said, just keeps getting better and better. But unlike a good bottle of wine, we gotta take Al out for a spin and not just let it age. His guitar playing is from another world. And kudos to these fantastic musicians who shared the stage with the maestro.
I’ve had a few drinks and watched this video. I’ve heard of Al Di Meola and knew of his talent but never listened to his music often. I’m listen to mostly hard core music. I love all music. But I almost stood up and clapped as if I was at the concert when the song ended. That was amazing.
That's Paco de Lucia's music, "Rio Ancho." The title Mediterranean Sundance was subsequent to the original title and because it encompassed 3 players as you know.
IN August 2010. my daughter and I went to see Rodrigo Y Gabriela, a young Mexican couple who are outstanding guitarists in their own right, at the Greek Theatre in LA. Their final guest artist for the evening (they had 3), Al Di Meola, came out and sat in with them, performing Mediterranean Sundance as a trio with him featured! To say it was outstanding would be a huge understatement! My daughter and I each heard something new, different and brilliant that evening!!!
I’ve been blessed to see this incredible arrangement performed by Al and the many over the years. I rarely miss an event if anywhere remotely close. I did not see this version live. I wish I had! Remarkably encouraging and stoic at the same time. Has been and will forever be in my top 5 until the day the music nymph decides my fate!
Just awesome. Al is such a virtuoso and I love this piece. I prefer to see him perform a little happier. A lot of amazing young talent at Berklee as expected. Amazing show.
Great song played so well together by all these musicians - you can feel the mediterranean atmosphere and it must have been a wonderful experience for these musicians to play with the great Al Di Meola.
The quality of image in particular of this video un amazing. Thank you for posting this. One of my favourite piece played by Di Meloa… Just fabulous. And all those musicians on stage, wonderful!
Had the opportunity to watch Al live in Malaysia in 2003. Been following him since the Mediterranean Sundance album. He doesn't seem to age but probably put on a bit of weight
You mean masterpiece by Paco. It's his music. It's called "Rio Ancho." The Mediterranean Sundance version is the same but with 3 players. Credit for the composition goes to Paco.

Beautiful musicianship and artistry! I have one question. Can somebody please explain to me why, out of 3 artists that play nylon-stringed guitars with a pick, Stephen Wilson, Jr, Willie Nelson, and Al di Meola, only one of them, Al, has nylon-stringed guitars whose sound boards don't look like they've been through a war? The soundboards from both Stephen and Willie are badly damaged from the pick. In Willie's case, only below the strings. In Stephen's case, both below and above the strings. Is is just that Al has a better technique? None of the 3 seem to have pick guards on their guitars. Al's not exactly gentle when he's playing those fast notes. I'm mystified.
Yeah. The original Mediterranean Sundance was written by Al back in the 70's. He and paco recorded it for the elegant gypsy album. It has a very different rhythm section. Back when they toured together as part of the guitar trio they blended both versions and it's been played that way ever since.
Mark anthony Davis yes, the intro is Mediterranean Sundance. Pretty much all of the rhythmic sections are Rio Ancho. If you listen to the original Rio Ancho the intro is not on it. After al and paco became friends and toured so much they blended the songs. Even paco, when playing rio ancho after the collaboration started using Al’a intro.
@@rerman6344 i actually didn't know that i thought paco made the intro i just seen paco play the intro with ramon in entre dos aguas and rio ancho i just assumed paco made it
So sad without paco r.i.p
But he is still good or not. Paco was ever the best.

Must have been a bot. Or someone with mental disabilities
I was thinking the same thing. I can only imagine the overwhelming emotion every time he performs this song
Nobody ripped harder than Al and the Trio in the 1980s legend
Rockin at 65 years old. He has become a better musician every year.

FELICIDADES

Man, oh, man, this utterly beautiful. What a collection of talent, fronted by the Jedi of the 6-string, Al D.!
Eternamente Paco de Lucia!!! Hasta el Cielo!!!

Incredible group of musicians with Al! Just brilliant!

Those 17 that dislike this have a special hearing gift. They hear all the 17 halftones.
there are very few mistakes, especilaly from students, but that is the human factor that makes it even more beautiful..
Thanks for amazing music & excellent performances bravo!👍👌💯💯💯💯💯💯💯👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏

J'aime comme un fou
when u heard this master piece all u came in your mind is the mastreo paco
Beautiful!
Now this is just plain fun sh!t. The Trolling Stone 250 list is a joke if AL Di Meola gets overlooked, but Johnny Ramone cracks the top 50.
Me recuerda a Paco de Lucia,........grande Dimeola.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

No one can replace Paco de Lucia
I actually have the tablature for this from 1984
❤️
That guitar smoked a cigarette after that.
El autor del tema es Di Meola, es un tema de jazz fusión, eduquense
Does anyone else think that he looks like Jürgen klopp?
u just ruined al di meola, thanks
Haha indeed
chissà perchè il marchio della fisa viene occultato e quello del piano è visibile
Alguien puede decirme que guitarra es esa que usa Meola?
