    I have all 7 levels of the old edition. I think I am going to stick with the old edition because we pair it with AAR, and we don't need all the extra activities. I like how simple and straight forward the old edition is, and we probably don't have time to do all the new extra things anyway. But it's nice that it's available for the kids who need extra things. Thanks for the comparison!

      Yes! I love that either way you still have an awesome curriculum it’s just about what fits your family at the moment.

    Thanks for this video! I have through level 4 of the old edition and have finally gotten into a rhythm of using it. It’s taken a while since spelling is the least favorite subject in my house 🙃 My son was watching it with me and as soon as he saw the student activity book he said “Ooh mom I want you to get me that one!” The activities are his favorite part of AAR. I was planning on sticking with the old version through level 7 because I’ve got the curriculum figured out for us and I didn’t know if we had the capacity to add in activities. But seeing my son be excited may have changed my mind. Hopefully they come out with level 5 by the time we work our way through level 4!

    Just ordered AAR 2 and AAS 1! It’s out of stock rn but hopefully we get it soon. My son absolutely loves AAR

      I have heard that it says it's out of stock but the wait time hasn't been bad from what I hear.

    Thanks for this comparison! I've been using the b&w version, and it's been working really well for us, so we probably won't switch. I already skip a lot of the things in the b&w version--we don't need more activities 😅.

    I love this comparison. We use AAR in our homeschool but I haven't taken the plunge on AAS yet. I am still curious whether the AAS Student Activity Book can be reused with multiple children in a similar way as what you showed with AAR in the binders? Are they really learning much different from what they are learning in AAR? How beneficial is it to have and do both? If you have both, I would love to see how you structure that into your day? I have 4 kids 3 of which I use AAR with at 3 different levels and 2 of which have no or almost no subjects that require little to no help from me. I try to do group subjects as much as possible but it seems like a lot to add another thing that is so teacher intensive. Right now we don't do any structured spelling outside of AAR lessons which as you know is not really spelling but it does help guide them when we get into that unstructured spelling when they are doing writing activities. I would love some more guidance in this area. You always have such great advice. Thank you so much for sharing it!!

    Do you think doing level one of AAR first is better or do them both simultaneously?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  23 дні тому

      Yes I recommend doing AAR1 first and then when you go into AAR2 you can start AAS 1

    Does the new All About Spelling 1 have the little color circles (hands on) to help with labeling sounds in the words?

      Not that I have seen but they incorporate the same concept through some of the activities in the student book.

    Hi! Thank you for the review. If I am teaching all 3 of my children (different ages and levels) does each child need their own cards and boxes?

      Not necessarily although there were times I did do that. Here is a video I made with tips for using the program with mulitiple kids that might help ua-cam.com/video/AdmA4TeB9Vo/v-deo.htmlsi=edIY6x1I-P7M4lQl

      I have been told you can buy the word cards separately now you just have to contact the company.

    Can I pair up the student workbook with the older version? I got level 1 with the PAL IEW curriculum. Thanks !

      They don’t line up from what I have been told. They do have a general activity book though that you can use for practice with the old version. Here it is ua-cam.com/users/shorts9SRrR5Tj4N0?si=1Ot6DIHEWpaVSp2y

    I have a 12 year old that still really struggles with spelling. Do you still recommend starting at level 1? And if yes would the student workbook be too young or still necessary?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  8 місяців тому +1

      They have a placement test online that should help to determine that for sure. The activity book may not be needed at that age but if they enjoy playing games it may make it more fun

      I've been using AAS level 1 with my almost 11 yo. We've been doing the rules flashcards, and do the "advanced application" page right now. We also use Spelling Wisdom from Simply Charlotte Mason.

    I have four children I’m gonna be starting on level one. Do you think I could get away with one of the student packets especially if I’m staggering when I teach them? I figured they can write in a journal the phonograms that they have mastered or I could print out a sheet with all the photograms and then they can check off the phonograms that they mastered and do something similar with the rule cards. Since you have experience, do you think something like this will work?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it would require a little more work on your end but if your willing it can definitely be done.

      @@LifeintheMundane thank you. I have another question for you if you don’t mind. I was talking with a friend and she wanted to know if the all about spelling could be used to learn how to read? I know that they suggest to do all about reading 1 first but does it have enough of the components for them to learn how to read from learning how to spell?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  7 місяців тому +1

      No it does not, they are two very different skills and utilizing the spelling to teach reading would be frustrating for a child and move to quickly.@@leahstarcreative

    Katie, how has your family liked the color edition compared to the older version?

    • @LifeintheMundane
      @LifeintheMundane  4 місяці тому +1

      I love the color version a lot for my daughters. I think for kids who don't need as much review or who prefer a more traditional method of practicing by just rewriting lists would prefer the older edition.
