That was great. I'm wondering if you've looked into any of the fan-edits of the Star Wars movies, especially Adywan's "Star Wars Revisited". He does many of the techniques you described here but instead of trying to make a preserved, original theatrical version, he has made a version that is what he believes the Special Editions should have been. He has done his own painstaking color correction, and even repainted every laser bolt and lightsaber effect to make them consistent with the other trilogy films. He's also done his own CGI and model work and truly made the Special Edition watchable. If you haven't watched it I highly recommend it. His version of The Empire Strikes Back came out last year, and he's working on Return of the Jedi and a 4K version of A New Hope currently.
I am aware of Adywan’s revisited and am quite impressed with his work! However, I’m somewhat of a Star Wars purist and I try to stick with the theatrical releases.

Even though It's DNR there's still enough detail in the films I think the DNR versions of 4K77 & 4K83 are great examples of DNR done right.

Great video. I grew up with Star Wars and each 7 years (1997, 2004, 2011) something changed... for the worst. Yes it sounds awesome, but those changes have a huge impact on my childhood memory and I can feel the conflict.
Unfortunately, the image quality wasn’t the best and was plagued by other issues. It seems like they chose the “quick and easy path, as Vader did.” At least they should have enhanced it for widescreen TVs.

I couldnt decide if I wanted DNR, or no DNR so I got them both lol. Harmys is also brilliant. 4k83, also amazing. Retroblasting does a great video about "star wars coming home", meaning his feelings while watching 4k77. His feelings towards this preservation are spot on. It is amazing. I burned them on blu ray, have them on memory stick, and hard drive. You know...just in case lol. It is exactly how I remember it on my vhs copy all those years ago, minus "Episode IV". I also really enjoyed the THX laserdisk versions, even though they were 3 disks each. I recently watched 4k83, and got sad when I saw the Emperor get thrown the shift. The good news is Darth Vader didn't scream "NooOoOo!", but the bad news was it reminded me of how creatively bankrupt Disney is to have to bring back old Palps from the dead. But thats a whole other story. To sum it all up, if you were an 80s kid 4k77 will put you right back there, and I am so thankful the original movie has been preserved for all time. And yes I have 5 different versions of the same movie, so have zero moral qualms about obtaining 4k77 lol. TN1 did a great service.

I'm sorry I don't have time to explain it all in a YT comment box. It' takes 10 years to understand all of this. Star Wars was MEANT TO BE ruined over time. YES, RUINED ON PURPOSE, by both George and Disney. I understand that is the craziest thing anyone reading this has ever heard. There's a lot going on in this world that is called "occult," never to be shared on comprehended by the "normal guy or girl." Let me just ask you this to start. 1. Does it make sense that each "new" addition "was worse," and did MORE HARM to the original each new release? What are the chances of that? 2. Does it make sense that the core fans could not have simply been surveyed to "see what they wanted? Ask yourself, why is the "original theater release" SO HARD TO GET? 3. Does it make sense that new "horrible-by-all-standards" 1997 scenes would be inserted like the singing and dancing in Jabba's Palace? That scene is cringe worthy to anyone over 10 years old. You, me, and everyone else can I can see how bad that scene is, but it makes sense to you that no one making the film (or George himself) couldn't see how pathetic it was? Of course they could see it. What was released in 1997 was the first, incremental step to destroy Star Wars. "Ray" was the last step. - Now, I know what you're saying.... "This is nuts.. why would they try to destroy their own work?" I am sorry I can't use this little box to bring you up to speed on what it takes 10 years to understand.... Not 10 years to understand Star Wars, ....10 years to see how reality itself operates. Doesn't Disney put profits first. No, they do not. They serve a system that is quite sinister. If that sounds conspiratorial to you good... it is conspiratorial. Switching gears... LOOK HOW HORRIBLE the last three movies are. They may be tolerated by the 20-something casual fan, but they are loathed by the core fan base as they should be loathed. Considering what should have been at stake when The Force Awakens came out, the "Ray" Star Wars were the worst movies EVER MADE. You think Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and the 1,000 other creative minds Disney owns just "forgot" how to make a movie? Are you trying to give me a "Kathleen Kennedy" excuse if you could talk to me? The destruction of STAR WARS.... (say it like Darth Vador) ... is COME-PLETE. Why.... you wouldn't believe me anyway. Just look at the facts.
While Adywan’s Revisted is an excellent Fan Edit, I do not consider it a Fan Preservation which was why it was not included. I only wanted to talk about purely Theatrical Releases when it came to Fan Preservations.
The best thing to do is buy the 2011 Blu-Ray because that was the official source used in the project. Unfortunately 4K77 isn’t an official project so you won’t get it automatically with the Blu-Ray or a Disney Plus subscription. After purchasing it you’ll have to download it from the forums at TheStarWarsTrilogy.com.
I remember seeing that initial 1981 rerelease and l couldn't believe how awful the print looked. Faded color, scratched beyond belief, it looked horrible and must have largely been an original prints, with brief, new inserts. But l should uave demanded my money back, it looked so BAD!
There is no legal ruling when it comes to fan restoration, preservation or fan edits. The convention is that you must own an officially released version but that's just good manners. It's not legal protection.
All these re-release's...ridiculous! The Originals with no alterations and just digitally enhanced, would have been sufficient. But no, George Lucus just had to go to the extreme. Smh!
It's his work, he has the right to modify it as he pleases. The real crime is not releasing the original versions, and even then I personally don't understand why most people are so asinine towards the changes besides the Maclunkey
Since Disney+ is just a subscription, you don’t technically own a copy of the movie. It’s better to buy a physical copy (2nd hand is okay) and then download Project 4K77.
Every single model shot has been removed and redone. Star Wars now is not the same as when it came out, and the star wars you see now is not an academy award winning film because they removed the aspects in which they won those awards and remade them negating the reason for the awards. It is cultural vandalism.
All the trench runs still contain the models from '77, yes they're slightly enhanced for better clarity, but they are still the same thing. Only the end battle shots above the Death Star were changed, and some of those are still there.
Depends on if you consider recompositing original film elements to be original. It's done all the time for modern home video releases and restorations. They paint out wires digitally, they dnr effects or live action plates to match, they remove matte lines. Of course, the more filtering you do, the more you soften the image so they also will sharpen the image. And that was before AI upscaling.
0:49 An ABSOLUTELY appalling job done with Jabba. This really (among the other CGI), is real, REAL BAD. How George Lucas approved this is beyond me. HOLY ATROCIOUS BATMAN!!! 😩😠😤🤬

I thought I was the only one who didn’t like the special editions
No mention of Adywans versions???
While Adywan’s Revisted is an excellent Fan Edit, I do not consider it a Fan Preservation which was why it was not included. I only wanted to talk about purely Theatrical Releases when it came to Fan Preservations.
@@SG10FilmArchive Got it
Do I get Disney+ Or the DVD’s to watch 4k77
The best thing to do is buy the 2011 Blu-Ray because that was the official source used in the project. Unfortunately 4K77 isn’t an official project so you won’t get it automatically with the Blu-Ray or a Disney Plus subscription. After purchasing it you’ll have to download it from the forums at TheStarWarsTrilogy.com.
Thank you for the help may the force be with you
I remember seeing that initial 1981 rerelease and l couldn't believe how awful the print looked.
If i have Disney + can i download 4k77?
Since Disney+ is just a subscription, you don’t technically own a copy of the movie. It’s better to buy a physical copy (2nd hand is okay) and then download Project 4K77.
@@SG10FilmArchive and where do i find the file?
Han shot first.....
Dramatic much?
Han shot first.
Hmm.
0:49 An ABSOLUTELY appalling job done with Jabba. This really (among the other CGI), is real, REAL BAD. How George Lucas approved this is beyond me. HOLY ATROCIOUS BATMAN!!! 😩😠😤🤬
