There have been a million “Buddy Movies” with men. This movie captures the depth of friendship between women on a level that hadn’t been seen before. ❤️
I love what Susan Sarandon said about men. She is totally on point. Such a beautiful and gentle woman. Thelma & Louise is definitely on my personal top 10 movies of all time. I used to watch this film a few times a year on VHS back in the day to keep me sane. The woman in the audience who stumbled with her question was trying to get at that point a little I feel like. Before MeToo was Thelma & Louise for a lot of small town girls and women.
I love how Geena is always smiling. She looks amazing. What Susan said about men is spot on. I love most of their movies and I super love Thelma & Louise. 😊
I absolutely love Thelma and Louise. White Palace is SO underrated. Susan Sarandon gives a beautiful, moving perfomance. James Spader and Eileen Brennan are great as well.
It was Michelle Pfeiffer that suggested to Ridley Scott that he direct “Thelma and Louise”. He confirmed that to be true. Michelle Pfeiffer and Jodie Foster we’re both signed onto play Thelma and Louise for a very long time. The project took so long to move into production they eventually dropped out to do other films. Pfeiffer invited Ridley Scott to have lunch with her. She told him she loves Thelma and Louise but will not be able to star in it. And then she said why don’t you just come to your senses and snap out of it and direct the film yourself. He said that got him thinking. When he left the lunch and drove home he realized she was right. He should just do it. He understands these women and how to make a film about it. That’s trivia that Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis wouldn’t know as they came on after Michelle and Jodie dropped out.
My gosh, I'm glad that happened because I cannot imagine anyone else in those roles, and cannot imagine Michelle and Jodie in them at all. I enjoyed many films with both of them in them too so it's not that I think they are bad actors, just not suited to that pairing.
I don't think "he understands these women and how to make a film about it" because it's very clear to me that there were a lot of times he didn't know exactly what to do with the script or with the characters. That's why he did listen to Susan or Geena, otherwise it would have turned into a crap. It was a low budget movie, any of them had any great expectations about it and maybe he wasn't really caring about the results since he just wanted a movie where "they blow up a truck". Any of them had nothing to lose, so each one of them did their best to make it work somehow. Of course Ridley had a huge importance as a director mainly on how to put all the pieces together to develop a compelling storytelling with so much (random) material on his hand. But the core of it all definitely were both of them.
Brad thanked Geena and Ridley when he won his Oscar for giving him his break. This movie stirred so much conversation when it came out. That’s what great movies do. What a great convention.
This is my favourite movie of all time. I adore it and know it word for word. Even watched it in subtitles and realised so of my “word for word” dialogue was incorrect😂it’s amazing what we hear! I still play the soundtrack. I’ve selected Hans Zimmers score for my final song when my time comes 😢 It just touches something deep in my soul that I cannot explain. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'll never forget that iconic scene - and I was in the theater, so big screen - Brad Pitt on the highway in that cowboy hat, grinning ear to ear. I didn't know who he was at that time; but I knew he was gonna be huge. That smile...
100% I literally just commented the same!!! There are SO many questions you could ask - what things in your real life helped prepare you for the role, what other directions could you see the movie going, how did the actors work together as a team. what was the best part of filming, what was the toughest, what do their families think of the films, what's the best compliment they're had about the movie - and I literally just rattled them off straight off the bat.
As a 58yo woman in 2024 I have to say that I felt your movie was empowering when it came out and I continue to enjoy the humanity of it. Times have definitely changed and I appreciate these talented women not being SJW's on this public platform.
I normally love Susan Sarandon both as an actress and when she's being interviewed. However, she seems "off" in this one. First of all, she hogs every question and seems curmudgeonly. Something has changed about her. Geena on the other hand is gracious, warm, and brings a "light" to the interview. Thank you, Geena!
The fascinating thing about what Susan Sarandon talks about with the trucker scene at 9:48 where she is explaining her character as asking for why the obscene trucker believed what he was doing was cool, is that Susan Sarandon in real life promotes similar behavior with her promotion of politicians. Would she want a politician to treat her sister, mother, daughter or granddaughter the same way she wishes politicians to treat those who she disagrees with? Susan's character was trying to understand the psychology behind the mindset while Susan in real life has the same mindset.
I have watched numerous of these videos from this event. I have thoroughly enjoyed this. Pittsburg was very lucky to have this. Such great memories when all these movies came out. Thank you!🙏 ❤
There are certain movies that have had a huge effect on me. This was one. I remember going into the theater bathroom stall and just sitting there, letting what I'd just seen sink in and feeling shocked, mad, sad, etc.
Being Swedish, loving the film and hearing they actually filmed a scene in Swedish - I hope it somehow surfaces! Hearing Thelma & Louise speak Swedish would be so awsome! ❤😎
At the same time period this movie came out I was also a victim of ongoing CSA. I remember being absolutely terrified by the scene where the man hit and tore Thelma’s (?) clothes off. My mother saw my reaction and as a boy back then, I was terrified that being a victim would mean my parents and particularly my mean older brother would accuse me of being gay. That scene had a huge impact on me.
Holy smokes. They both look incredible! Love both these ladies. Grew up with this movie, A Long Kiss Goodnight, and The Client - were and still are some of my favorite movies. They both have done great work. What legends sitting on this stage. 🏆 👑 ❤
To think how Thelma and Louise was one of my favorite movies while I was still in Kindergarten at 6 years old, back in 1992. My parents were aware of how much my wisdom prevented me from using profanity as well as violating rules in other ways. Exceptional movie production though.
They are incredible. It's interesting that Ridley Scott always gets all the kudos for the movie, like: "oh, how visionary he was!", "oh, he had such a sensibility", "oh, he was so clever"... When in fact, most of the crucial decisions were made or pointed by both Susan or Geena. Seems to me that the first drafts or even the final script were really bad. I mean, it had potential, but it couldn't tell exactly where it would be going.
I'm a big fan of these two women. I wasn't a huge fan of this particular movie, but I always loved watching Susan and Geena's acting abilities, regardless. The last movie I watched was by director, Susan Polley. Francis McDormand is another favorite of mine. So, I think about these three women and how they tell a story through film and stage and I'm hopeful that, at some point, we can get back to being excited to go to the cinemas again. It's not happening right now.
I loved the advice Susan gave and she was spot on about some males not being comfortable being emotionally open etc. and it’s so true when the man shuts down it causes damage to the woman. I had to leave my then bf because of a shutdown not even talking it really hurts so for any man or woman for that matter who finds themselves in a situation like that please communicate. I tried but he was more interested in his video game 😢 women unite ❤hehe
I had to buy my wife a baby blue T bird & she had her done in red lol. The movie speaks for its self 🎬🔥🔥💯👍. Beautiful ladys, legendary Actor's of the siver-screen👏👏♥️. Thanks for sharing 👏👏😃👍
Why do both this panel and The Breakfast Club panel have a "Wikipedia guy" who stands up and lists both of their filmographies before asking his question?
