      Oh for sure, no doubt I watched that movie 30+ times growing up. Every time I saw my older brother (who didn't live with me), he'd be like "wanna watch Breakfast Club?" Good times :)

      @user-et6pj4db9s Місяць тому +10

      @@tonymontana4284 no it isn't, this is considered more iconic cos its what's known as a bottle episode in TV where the whole movie takes place within the confines of one location over the course of one single day featuring characters representing five major social groups of both school society and in some ways society in general and the story arc of them beginning by having zero in common as they are forced to convene and finishing by them having bonded as friends in their own ways. It's a very simple story, very focused and straightforward with a clear story arc and hence it gets remembered the most. Sixteen Candles is a fairly generic teen romance drama more or less and thus less noteworthy.

      PREACH Sparky!! I LOVED John Hughes films BECAUSE… Yes, they were basically “Young Adult” books that they made into movies instead of books. His movies DID NOT ASSUME the watcher was some idiot kid, but a YOUNG ADULT! That we were Adults in Training, still learning about life, how relationships work, the beginnings of REAL responsibilities to come and that we were THINKING and LEARNING part of society! And the movies coming out of Hollywood now are just GARBAGE! I miss John
      Hughes and his stories…

      Interesting you would bring that up but I think if there's an actor that could be a seamless substitute for each other, it would bet these two. It's arguable who had the bigger career as the laundry list of movies John has done aren't really high profile but he has worked more than Judd, either by choice or popularity in the course to public opinion.

      and if they were both played by siblings i'd never even want that as a couple even if the characters weren't related,

      So I met Anthony about 15 years ago at a convention. He signed my 'Breakfast Club' DVD and I told him it's my dream to get it fully signed one day. He looked at me and said, "Well, how about four out of five?" I was like, "Huh?" and he asked, "Did you see the Oscars tribute to John Hughes? Did you notice ONE of us was NOT THERE?" It was then that I understood that I'd be lucky to get four of the five. I wish Emilio would get off his high horse, be a little more humble and appreciate his fans more.

    John Hughes was such a genius, truly one of the all-time great comedy writer/directors, if not the greatest. He wrote and directed The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Planes Trains and Automobiles, and Uncle Buck, to name a few. He wrote National Lampoon's Vacation. He wrote Home Alone. The list goes on and on. I have left out several of his hits. It's such a shame he died so young. He was only 59 when he died of a heart attack.

    When Molly Ringwald mentions that Rick Moranis was originally the janitor in Breakfast club, then Hughes went with actor John Kapelos, who ended up being the janitor we see in the movie, Anthony Michael Hall interjects that John Kapelos was also in 16 candles, where Kapelos played Molly's older sister's husband "Rudy" in 16 candles, it should also be noted John Kapelos was also in yet another Hughes movie, "Weird Science", where Kapelos played "Dino" the Greek" in the scene in Weird Science where "Gary" gets drunk and sings the blues the night Lisa took him and Wyatt out to "Kandy Bar" where Dino is the owner.

    This movie became a ritual amongst my friends and I. Every Saturday night after the bar closed, we would head over to a buddy's house, continue to drink and watch this movie. We watched so often we all knew all the lines and would recite them while watching. To change things up, we decided to have each of us draw a character name from a hat and we would act out that character. Yes we were idiots, but we had fun.

      I can’t believe what you said. Unreal. Wow. Let me explain- there was a period, spanning several months, if not a cold season or two, (around 1991? 92? I think) where some 6-7-8 of my people would gather in my friend’s and girl friend’s apartment every Monday night, just to watch the movie. But not just watch the movie. We’d (loosely) play a “game” to see who could recite all the dialogue as it goes. Meanwhile, we’d be drinking or doing shots or something. I think the drinking was barely tied in as penalties to the game. It was casual, not childish.
      So! To read your comment really f’n floored me!! But I guess it’s really totally possible we weren’t the only ones to socialize in this way about the movie. It’s just, it never occurred to me until I read your comment. Thank you, friend.

    Breakfast club is the one movie that I related to the most as a teenager now every single one of John Hughes movies is iconic completely iconic and I grew up with all of them and I am so grateful I drop in that era and that timeframe because it related to me so much I related to Allison‘s character Ali she was my favorite character and I love Molly. Ringwald don’t get me wrong. I love all the characters, but I related to Ali‘s character the most because of how I felt inside I was like Nerdy sort of introverted artist too. I could act my ass off, but I felt like her character most of the time! And just to make a point, she did not put her dandruff on her. Cap’n Crunch. She put her dandruff on her drawing, and she put pixie sticks on her Cap’n Crunch and then put the bread back on and took a bite. He should notice he was in the movie, but I could tell you just about every single line almost every character in that movie and I just want to stage them. I’m sure they probably won’t see this but I want to thank all of them for every single movie that they made in 80s because they made my teenagers amazing so I want to say thank you for being such awesome actors and for making my life the way it was back and I’m 50 years old and I have to tell you that my kids love every single one of the movies every single one 16 candles the breakfast club Saint Elmo Saint Elmo‘s Fire, Johnny be good weird science and they’re so many more movies that made my life awesome so if they get to see this, please tell him that he made that mistake but tell him how much I love them.
