- In this video I show you how to make red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting.
Red Velvet Cake Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups table sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons red food coloring
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 1/2 cups sifted cake flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
In a medium bowl, combine flour, salt and cocoa powder. Set aside. In a bowl of a stand mixer, combine the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, vanilla and red food colouring and combine until mixed. Scrape the sides of the bowl and the paddle as needed to ensure that all of the ingredients are incorporated. Add half of the flour mixture into the butter mixture, mix briefly, add half of the buttermilk, mix. Repeat with remaining flour mixture and buttermilk. In a small bowl, combine baking soda and vinegar, and quickly add it to the cake batter while it is still bubbling. Mix it for about 10-20 seconds. This helps the cake to be light and fluffy.
Grease two 9" round cake pans, or one 9"x13" cake pan and bake at 350F for 30-35 or until a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 5-10 minutes, remove from pan, and cool completely on a wire wrack. Frost as desired.

I can't believe this, I still apply ur recipes since in my college time now am refreshing again and gonna bake it for my first born 💕
Great! Thanks for watching!
I'm a kindergarten teacher, so I took that. I'm self taught when it comes to baking.
absolutely! enjoy!
When I was about ten years old, I came across a recipe for a red velvet cake and decided to make it. Well, we didn't have any red food coloring, but we did have GREEN (McCormicks Brand). It tasted just fine but was a very unappetizing color -- think baby diaper change. That is one of my earliest (& funniest) baking memories.
Cool i tried making choclate failed misrebly but it still tasted delicious and the was no unnatural sugar inside so it was healthy choclate in a way
Lovely video. It is after 9PM where I am so I will bake this cake tomorrow. It looks so yummy. I like the buttermilk so much more than the oil that some use. Ugh! Who wants a cake full of oil? Not me. Thanks again.
it is my personal opinion that cream cheese icing goes best with red velvet, but obviously you can put whatever icing you want on your cake. and again, obviously, you can put whatever dye you want in the cake.
You need to use vinegar as it reacts with the baking soda to act as a leveling agent. You could try a different vinegar if need be, but I recommend using white.
Thanks a lot for this video!!!!!
I'm a 18 year old guy and I made it for the birthday of my nephew (who just became 1)
I totally nailed it in the first attempt and everyone loved it!!!!
Superb recipe :-D
Thanks so much Jessica!
Great! Glad you liked it.
I used this recipe, two batches, for a 12" round birthday cake and everyone loved it! Great texture, so yummy. This is my new go-to red velvet recipe! Thanks Jenn, it's amazing.
Adrienne Turner I'm so glad you liked it that much!!
Great! Glad to hear you like it!
Getting cakes made from scratch is an investment in the baker/decorator's time and fresh ingredients....I know as I am one :) I hope you get some use from this recipe.
even though i usually hate lengthy videos, i really enjoy watching u bake, and i always watch it to the very end
You're welcome! Glad it helped!
You're a lifesaver! I have to make a cake for today ( it's almost 3 am lol) and I just wanted to have a nap in the afternoon but woke up when stores were closed already and I didn't had any buttermilk -_-
you can make your own butter milk by adding a tbspn of white vinegar or lemon juice into a cup of milk. let it stay for 5-10mins and taadaa
That's why I said she's a lifesaver cuz she mentioned it in the video:) Thank you anyways

If you're thinking of substituting something like splenda, yes...and it usually measures cup for cup.
awesome! i tried this recipe, then did it with blue and it came up with this beautiful vibrant colour
No, it's not too heavy....as long as you're not putting an extremely thick layer of it...which would cause stress to any cake.
Great! Happy birthday...I hope you have a great day...and great cake!
thankyou so much! I made this step-by-step, my first cake made from scratch and it was delicious.
Yes, you can.
Every time I watch this channel, I get really hungry and it gives me an excuse to make these cakes! They're amazing!:-)
Thanks so much.
Take 1 cup of regular flour, take out 2 tablespoons of the flour. Add two tablespoons of cornstarch. This will give you 1 cup of cake flour.
my favorite cake is red velvet i always make the one from the box but with this recipe i will be able to bake one for my family thank you for that recipe you the best. from puerto rico you have a new fan here.

Omg thanks for telling me how to make buttermilk!!! All the other recipes say sourmilk or buttermilk but I don't have either so thank u so much
Yes..and I line them with wax paper as well as non-stick spray.
yes, because you need the vinegar's reaction with the baking soda. if you're worried about having too much vinegar, use lemon juice in your milk instead (1 tbsp/cup)
Fantastic...i live it...Because of you explanation i well do This in Lisboa, Portugal in my Shop...thank you ...you are a Pro.

Yes, it does, but we also have a video specifically on RV Cupcakes too.
Just wanted to say I made this cake for my birthday, and my friends loved it so much! I live in Brazil and red velvet isn't a very popular cake here, I never had it since I moved here. So thank you so much, it was perfect! And I love your channel :))

Use bake even strips on your pans to prevent doming ... or just level your cake with a long knife after it's baked.
Yes, I believe it is!
Great video! I can't wait to try this recipe!
I was looking at your tutorial and a cake look really good so I want to try it.
I have heard that too, but I haven't had time to try it yet.
Loved your video! It was straight to the point and showed every step of the process. Can't wait to try this recipe on my own :)
I really like that spatula! :)
Yes vinegar is necessary as it's reaction with the baking soda is what causes the cake to rise/lighten.
This is my favorite cake.Thank u for doing this tutorial.
This cake is so good I make this for every celebration
Good to know you can create butter milk with normal milk and a bit of lemon juice. I find it such a pain to get hold of proper butter milk. This cake looks delicious and I'm looking forward to trying out your recipe.
Red velvet pancakes....lemme rephrase..RED VELVET ANYTHING IS SO DELICIOUS *^*
Thank you for sharing your recipe for Red Velvet Cake. It's a family favorite in my home :) I'm sure they'll love and appreciate the homemade version over the box version.
The salt compliments the sweet in the recipes....makes the sweet seem more "there". There are some other science components to it, but in cakes/cupcakes its mostly for flavour.
Yes, and we also have a video up on RV cupcakes
I love red velvet so thank you
Your videos make me crave. AGGGHH!
This video is so amazing, I was thinking about doing different colors of velvet cakes.

Good history fact about red velvet cake

grocery stores carry it in the baking supplies aisles.
I can't wait to try this thank you!
They are the leavening agent...make the cake rise.
Great recipe, methinks I will be making this for Afternoon tea with friends, Thanks for a yummy-lious video. A very chuffed London girl💜
Yes, the dye is optional, but if you don’t use it, your cake will only have a very slight shade of red.
thanks for this you're an amazing teacher I tried it and it tasted really nice.
thanks so much for subscribing...and yep, running my own bakery business has definitely NOT been good for the waistline. Thanks for the upbeat comments!
