I'm at six weeks out from subcutaneous transposition, and I was wondering how long it took for your elbow to not feel tight when bending it past ninety degrees. Also, how long did it take for your overall swelling to completely go down? I understand that healing is different for different people, but I'd appreciate your input..
I had my subcutaneous surgery just 1 week ago. I was told to remove sling and splint after 3 days and use pain as guide to use the arm. My incision is sore, but I can fully flex and extend the arm. Swelling is not completely gone, but it's not too bad. I'm going to start the exercises from the video today - though when still in splint and sling, I held and gently squeezed a very soft ball.

I am still going to the gym and doing resistance bands at home but im feel like I’m not healing properly my arm still feels super weak all the way up into my shoulder/scapula area and neck. Is there anything you could recommend for me to do to help? I know the doctor said it could take a year to heal especially because I sat on it for as long as I did but I feel like I should be healing faster
It’s never a bad idea to get another opinion from a different surgeon! I would suggest doing some research and finding a good orthopedic PT. Many offer free injury consultations for new patients.
i had carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve transposition surgery in november 2018. i wasnt given any instruction and he didnt think i needed PT. now i still cannot straighten my arm without pain and anything that engages my tricep hurts. my hand also has scar tissue build up and i cannot use it fully. will scar tissue go away now if i start working on it or is it always going to be tight/painful now?
It is very likely that the scar tissue can be mobilized so to speak to a certain point. At this point it likely will never return to normal but a skilled manual therapist should be able to improve the condition.
I am going through exact same issue after this surgery.. feel a million times worse now. I so regret this surgery everyday that passes. I'm not same person anymore the pain is overwhelming

It’s impossible to know how well your body will be able to recover. The surgery has a reasonable success rate but you will need to make sure you’re doing everything necessary to achieve the best result possible. Seeking out a good PT would be one of my recommendations.
My surgery has not been successful so far. I am weak and seemingly pretty limited. I was prescribed no physical rehab. I am 63 so that may be a factor.
I had both left (10 mos ago) and right (4mos ago) elbow submuscular surgery. Both are good now, no more pain. From my experience, the longer you suffered with the symptoms, the longer it takes for nerve to recover recovery. Just be patient

How soon should I begin these exercises? I I just had medial triceps resection and ulnar nerve transposition a week ago. My arm is still wrapped up and really purple. I get the stitches out in a week.
Also is it normal for there to be a sort of a muscle snap feeling still in the arm afterwards? I'm assuming it's from having my arm in awkward positions to be comfortable for long periods of time. It seems more in my shoulder area when doing basic arm circle movements
I did ulnar, radial tunnel, carpal tunnel and dequarvains done all at once. Can i do all of these? Do you have any suggestions? Are there others i can do? I am a carpenter and a welder and I need to get back to work but I dont want to reinjure myself.
Having surgery April 7th. Where can I find this Thera putty, Amazon? Any words of advice?
Amazon and many other places
No insurance. How Long after stitches are removed, do I need to wait? Trauma surgery
My problem is my middle, ring and pinky fingers are curled and my wrist is weak. What exercises can I do to help uncurl my fingers and strengthen my wrist?
Hi I recently had radio ulna I’m 60 years old I was wondering when is it OK to extend my elbow I’m out of my Wrist brace to do some early exercises almost 3 weeks out of surgery and is still very tight and painful what do you suggest by the way thank you for the video
I’m not sure what you have going on based on your comment. But I would ask you doctor and physical therapist if you have one. They will know more about your case.
thank you.will see surgeon on the 22nd this month
Did you ever post a video for the more advanced stuff?
Yep!!
I got this surgery 6 weeks ago feel free to ask me questions if you are thinking of getting it
Are you able to write / type during the first week while you were on cast ?
How long does it take to heal. I still feel pain in my little n ring fingers. Thank you for showing me these techniques.
Any update on that pain? Thanks
What type of ulnar nerve transposition did you have done? I’m still unsure what is the best for me I need it done in both arms my surgeon is suggrstion just the simple transplant but I want it too last
I had a subcutaneous transposition, which is a really effective procedure. My suggestion would be to get another opinion or two if you’re worried or unsure. Different docs do the surgery slightly differently.
Overhead Athletics just worried I won’t be able to throw or play sports anymore without having to worry about something happening
Great video
Thanks for sharing this.had a ulnar nerve surgery been doing therapy but still not better.it was a complication from a shoulder replacement
Best of luck!
Hey doctor! I had a car accident last month and my ulnar nerve was completely cut I had a surgery connected the nerve 4 weeks ago ,I'm starting my pt next week , I'm wondering how does it need to recover ? And is it recoverable I mean what could happen in the near feature?
Had surgery July 28th and still have numbness on my pinky finger, side of palm and wrist. When will I be back to normal?
It can take up to a year for nerve damage to repair!
It's hard to say but it can take a few months. Ultimately it depends on the extent of the nerve damage
And how many take takes sir for recovery
I’m not sure I understand the situation or your question.
How many days full recover in ulna bone after serjery
I was not told that I needed to move as soon as possible following owner nerve decompression surgery. I have gone 4 WEEKS without rehab exercises or movement. Now the muscles of atrophy and it is excruciatingly painful. Trying to do the stretches they gave me at my first post-op yesterday. Any advice?
Yep, start these ones and be patient
Hi! I'm 1 month and a few days after my Ulnar nerve surgery (decompression). Overall I'm feeling good and I want to start active recovery. Should I start now those exercises you're recommending?
Sir plz help me ..my father done elbow surgery before 3 weeks ago..and if they doing hand moment so swelling in hand and so much pain and palm is creat redness why sir
I am a little concerned as I am one month after surgery and cannot straighten my arm properly. Is this normal, and has anyone else experienced this been able to straighten their arm eventually? Will see my consultant in one week. Many thanks.
How's your arm now? I had this surgery 3 days ago. I cant even eat with that arm.
@@ripyouuu way better, thank you!! Long story short, arm working again, way fewer tingles in fingers etc. Took a good 6 months for the nerve to settle. Still clicking at elbow, so had ultrasounds- ulnar nerve is successfully transposed, will have to wait to see consultant again to figure out what the clicking is about. Shoulder also weird. To be honest I thought the surgery would remove the clicking, but it didn't. I still have numbness around the site of the scar. Haven't made it back to weight training /exercising properly yet either. So in essence, I am functional again after the operation 1 year later, but there's still a way to go, and it didn't solve all my problems. I really hope that it's successful for you!!
@@carolyncardy2192 I'm so glad to hear that you are much better now.
Any idea what clicking is about? Having the same problem
I didn't get to the bottom of the clicking. Still living with it to be honest.
I had tennis elbow surgery five weeks ago when they opened it up they said there was more damage than they thought I was not expecting to wake up in such complete agony I cannot lengthen my arm awfully extended who is an incredibly excruciating pain when I touch the very top of the bone worse than it ever was I am very limited on the exercises can do and it’s now been six weeks I am really worried and wondering if some thing is wrong I do physical therapy three times a week and I’m being told I am trying to rush the process and I need to slow it done? Any advice? I am a fitness instructor and I teach a class five days a week I’ve had to literally alter the way I teach and it’s incredibly frustrating and I’m afraid I’ll never get my strength back to be honest I could’ve lived with the pain of the tennis elbow which I’ve had for three years rather than deal with the post surgery feeling!
Great information! Thanks for sharing
Please someone get back to me.. I started working out fairly quick after my surgery.. my surgery was only a inch cut and the doctor said I would fine after a few days then changed it to a week. It’s been almost a month I still feel extremely sore and painful when trying to lift.
Had this surgery 15 yrs ago then three weeks ago I broke my elbow don't know if my uknar nerve will have to be worked on again
Are you having tingling or numbness?
@@OverheadAthletics in my pinky finger off and on I have a closed distal radial head fracture and I'm having to start excercises and am scared to death because I'm afraid I'll recrack it but my Dr says I won't so CE it's just a line.
Best of luck! Wishing the best for you.
What if they did both, ulnar nerve surgery and carpel tunnel release at the same time on the same side? I had the surgery on April 1st...the exercises for the hand hurts my elbow
Hey my gf got this surgery and we went to a concert the other night when we did. We went the wrong damn way…had to jump a damn spider infested fence and when she was pulling me over she felt her arm at the elbow where the cut was hurting. It seemed like it may have pulled. The cut started looking a little bit worse. Will she need surgery again if the arm still hurts? Any exercise for it?
I have no idea what is going on with her elbow but I hope you find a good physician
Having problem with my fingers, can’t do scissor action hold teaspoon or pen. Any help please.
See an elbow wrist hand surgeon. But consider being evaluated by an orthopedic physical therapist first to screen you neck
Just got this surgery as well as carpal tunnel yesterday. Thanks for the video! Are there any super light finger exercises i can do while the splint and cast is on?
How are you post op, I have to schedule both to be done at the same time. Left Cubital and right carpal.
I was fine. I carried moderately heavy grocery bags in my post op arm about 3 days after surgery. I was really sore for about 2 weeks. Stitches are out now and I am at about 95% back to normal.
I just had both surgeries three weeks ago. Not sure if it’s the same exercise when we have both at the same time. My elbow is so tight I can’t imagine playing tennis for at least six months !
Thank a lot sir ji gret exercises after this exercise improve my hand after surgery
Hello, beisdes visible popping, is there anway to tell if you have snapping triceps as well?
subluxation does not happen all the time, often not visible but it happens..
Snapping triceps is rare and I apologize for the late reply but dynamic ultrasound would confirm it.
Kinda sad I have to do this surgery as I play tennis at a pretty high level and am very close to going to college, I was hoping to play in college and hope I still can
Same here I play baseball
The surgery has a pretty favorable prognosis. Wishing you the best of luck
I'm at six weeks out from subcutaneous transposition, and I was wondering how long it took for your elbow to not feel tight when bending it past ninety degrees. Also, how long did it take for your overall swelling to completely go down? I understand that healing is different for different people, but I'd appreciate your input..
Sometime around 8-10 weeks
I had my subcutaneous surgery just 1 week ago. I was told to remove sling and splint after 3 days and use pain as guide to use the arm. My incision is sore, but I can fully flex and extend the arm. Swelling is not completely gone, but it's not too bad. I'm going to start the exercises from the video today - though when still in splint and sling, I held and gently squeezed a very soft ball.
all i did was clap my elbows on accident and i have elbow pain on my right elbows and my hand can’t close without it hurting a tiny bit do you think by just clapping my elbows is could be bad lol i’m surprised it’s still hurting
I’m not sure what clapping elbows is
Hey bro. I'm 17 and a Boxer .I had the ulnar nerve transposition 2 weeks ago surgery because of my ulnar nerve subluxation (my nerve wasn't damage) . do you think I can be able to box again? I'm very worried about this
Probably!
@@OverheadAthletics what do you mean "probably" ? !:D
Return to play rates for throwers and boxers are relatively high! It just depends on exactly how beat up the nerve was. The less damaged the better!
OMG,im a dentist and i have the same prolem.im crying all the time and im so afraid that i wouldnt be able to work again

Hey I had surgery 6 months ago. ..I am seeing improvement but I still feel tingling on my pinki and at my biceps when I life is that normal?
Yes that's normal but it depends on the extent of nerve damage. The worse the damage the more likely tingling at your point in time
Having ulnar nerve transposition tomorrow, however, I have a trail race in about a month that I've been training months for. Will I be able to run in a sling or something within the first week or so after surgery and the initial pain has decreased?
Thanks i needed help
Glad the video helped
Can't bend my elbow past 90 degress 6 weeks post op (transposition). This normal?
No, you need PT
This Sub Custanios or Sub Muscular Surgery?
Subcutaneous
I feel elbow stiffness is that normal?
Yes
You said a couple things that made me feel a lot better about getting my second owner nerve surgery I heard you say some things that I didn't even know about the last surgery that I had and also it made me think that like me walking around with a pinched nerve in my arm is like someone who writes books on an average day like every day and has writer's block because I work and I try to be active and a writer tries to write books or you know reports you know so I appreciate this video dude and I already subscribe you know I hope that what I'm going through I can put a video out to help someone but I don't want to miss misinterpret what's going on I think you're you're a little bit higher and and knowledge on this thanks for the video
Question: Do you still have numbness in your pinkie finger?
No
I had it over a year ago. Hurts like heck even today.
It is probably inflamed or being compressed once again. I would check out our video on ulnar neuropathy exercises which can provide you with some exercises you can do to help allleviate those symptoms as well release some of that tension in the neural pathway. I will provide the link below! Hope this helps!

So I had this surgery done in December of 2018 but had been injured since July 2016 I wasn’t able to start therapy until August 2019 and ended the end of October.
Mee too bro it's about 2 yrs when my nerve got compressed now my surgery done just 2 days ago.. Help me what should i do now tu heal properly🙏🙏🙏🙏
i had carpal tunnel and ulnar nerve transposition surgery in november 2018. i wasnt given any instruction and he didnt think i needed PT. now i still cannot straighten my arm without pain and anything that engages my tricep hurts. my hand also has scar tissue build up and i cannot use it fully. will scar tissue go away now if i start working on it or is it always going to be tight/painful now?
It is very likely that the scar tissue can be mobilized so to speak to a certain point. At this point it likely will never return to normal but a skilled manual therapist should be able to improve the condition.
I am going through exact same issue after this surgery.. feel a million times worse now. I so regret this surgery everyday that passes. I'm not same person anymore the pain is overwhelming
@@priscillamontanez8434 I just had surgery done three weeks ago and I’m in so much pain ... I don’t think it will ever go back to normal, are you feeling any better?
@@VeronicaSanchez-lc9hr are you feeling any better now? I Have the cubital tunnel surgery in April.
Bout to have this done
Best of luck!
@@OverheadAthletics Thanks 👍
I’ve had this surgery and I’m starting to regret it. Will I ever be able to perform calisthenics and build muscle mass again. I’m currently looking to start physical therapy and lifting 5 pound weights but I want to be able to box, perform pull ups and push ups again I fear I will never be able to do so again. Did I fuck myself ?
Just be patient
krisDorz loveq tough call. I had nerve subluxation. You stated your nerve were cut so idk how the recovery would be. You should see a plastic surgeon that specialize in hand surgery. They’re supposedly the best. I went to dr.Anup Patel in Orlando FL
@@tranht1 Thanks for update. How old were you when you had surgery? I'm in my early 30s, and may need it. Thanks!!
What are recommended exercises for elbow flexion and extension after subcutaneous UN transposition? I just got left done but ROM at the elbow was my issue when I had the right done last year. Took 6 month OT with certified hand therapist, literally stalled at 90° for months.
Leslie D does it luxating again? Or was a good surgery? If you know, there is a lot of cases of subluxation after transposition.
Some good exercises but the gum chewing is really unprofessional
Thank you for the compliment of the exercises!
Thank you. I will use in a week or so after approval from doctor to start therapy. Ulnar nerve transposition and decompression last Tuesday. Was great to see you had the same surgery.
The clicking and clacking from chewing pizza is crazy.
Somebody needs to talk to your manager…
Karen comes to mind looolllll. Not really funny but you know what means 😏
1:46 if you want past the intro
Surgery is the worst option if you have problems with the ulnar nerve. 😞
Love the exercises but hated the chewing noise 😅
That gum has got to go.
Chewing gum while giving these instructions is very annoying and unprofessional. The exercises are great, but that constant noise from chewing is awful!
Thanks for the video, but please don't chew gum next time.
Please take the gum or candy in your mouth out. I can’t concentrate on the exercises because of the slurping 🙄
Informative but finish your pizza before explaining. Very unprofessional.
Your chewing is really annoying
Sorry
