I was 8 years old when I drove my first tractor. It was a John Deere B. Back then all I knew was working on our farm. I was raised on the farm and loved every minute. I am 61 years old now. The farm is gone but my memories will go to my grave. It was a very hard life as a child, and I have only one regret. Not still on a farm. Every child should work on a farm for six months.
I am always annoyed when people have to find something negative to say. First of all this is a handsome and sweet sounding B. The major rule when I had the privilege to operate a friends A or his 70 was never use back pressure on the clutch lever as the means to stop the tractor. Always use the brake pedals. Only since you titled this video “ how to drive...” did I decide to comment.
i have a question im from germany and i bouht a jd mod B from 1939 from a dealer from belgium but i havend found any infos to the top speed of this tractor its a 4 gear could you tell me how fast it runs ? thanks in beginning :)
I'm more of a Farmall guy, however after living several decades, and picking up a few things along the way, I do believe that the models of this vintage with two speeds in the transmission and high/low range came from the factory on steel wheels. Anyone else. ...??
Drove one in my teens in the early 60's..in upstate NY. Brings back fond memories ..Thanks for posting.

NORTHWEST WISCONSIN BAY-BEE!
Hi! can you please explain how the steering wheel to front wheels system works? any pdf or sites you can refer me to that explains it? thanks! :)
I have a old 1940s tractor at my house and I’d like some help getting it running if U could
I just bought this exact tractor. Nothing is seized up. I want to completely restore it. Can you tell me how much I'm looking at?
$15000 and 2 divorces.
Why do you have a battery on the back if it is hand start? Great runner though
Robert White i was wonder the same thing and he prob converted it to both hand and battery
It's electronic ignition thats been added for easier starting. The toggle switch that's right above the flywheel is the On/Off switch.
I noticed that too , that really makes for a easy start , he barely rotated the wheel and it fired
Maybe for a pull behind Sprayer ?
Nice tractor. Your clutch looks like it's set too light. I believe it's supposed to be at 65lbs of force to engage if my memory serves me correctly.
40-65#
Did you know john deere tractors used the mechanical brakes , and hand clutch until 1960?
