    Lyrics:
It was back in ‘32 when times were hard
He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards
    Stagger Lee
He wore rat-drawn shoes and an old stetson hat
Had a ‘28 Ford, had payments on that
    Stagger Lee
His woman threw him out in the ice and snow
And told him, “Never ever come back no more”
    Stagger Lee
So he walked through the rain and he walked through the mud
Till he came to a place called The Bucket Of Blood
    Stagger Lee
He said, “Mr Motherfucker, you know who I am”
The barkeeper said, “No, and I don’t give a good goddamn”
    To Stagger Lee
He said, “Well bartender, it’s plain to see
I’m that bad motherfucker called Stagger Lee”
    Mr. Stagger Lee
Barkeep said, “Yeah, I’ve heard your name down the way
And I kick motherfucking asses like you every day”
    Mr Stagger Lee
Well, those were the last words that the barkeep said
‘Cause Stag put four holes in his motherfucking head
Just then in came a broad called Nellie Brown
Was known to make more money than any bitch in town
She struts across the bar, hitching up her skirt
Over to Stagger Lee, she starts to flirt
    With Stagger Lee
She saw the barkeep, said, “O God, he can’t be dead!”
Stag said, “Well, just count the holes in the motherfucker’s head”
She said, “You look like you ain’t scored in quite a time.
Why not come to my pad? It won’t cost you a dime”
    Mr. Stagger Lee
“But there’s something I have to say before you begin
You’ll have to be gone before my man Billy Dilly comes in,
    Stagger Lee”
“I’ll stay here till Billy Dilly comes in, till time comes to pass
And furthermore I’ll fuck Billy Dilly in his motherfucking ass”
    Said Stagger Lee
    “I’m a bad motherfucker, don’t you know
And I’ll crawl over fifty good pussies just to get to one fat boy’s asshole”
    Said Stagger Lee
Just then Billy Dilly rolls in and said, “You must be
That bad motherfucker called Stagger Lee”
    Stagger Lee
“Yeah, I’m Stagger Lee and you better get down on your knees
And suck my dick, because if you don’t you’re sure to be dead”
    Said Stagger Lee
Billy Dilly dropped down and slobbered on his head
And Stag filled him full of lead
    Oh yeah.

No-one else could of sung this + being Soo entraining as Nick Cave. I have never been a big fan. After seeing Stagger Lee. Nick is talented, funny. Great entertainer. The theatrics, the dancing, the uncensored swearing & dirty lyrics. It's like watching a Quentin Tarantin movie Shock, violence, swearing, humour, guns cool music, crime, & quirky entertainment. I love it. It's art & if you take it seriously & don't laugh them that's weird because So much is banned due to discrimination or too crude + disturbing. "It did occur to me one night, as I performed Stagger Lee in full priapic flight, that Stagger Lee does not shoot Billy Dilly with an actual gun at all, but that his being “filled full of lead. Bang! Bang! Bang!” was simply a metaphor for the force of Stag’s ejaculation, and Blixa’s terrifying and inhuman screeching at the end orgasmic in nature. This made me wonder, chillingly at the time, what sleeping with Blixa must be like - something I am sadly unable to elaborate on." - Nick Cave

I'm not disagreeing about the RHCP... but this IS NOT the hill to die on. This is, at best, interesting, and, at worst, a bombastic self-indulgence. Either way, it isn't substantially better than the Peppers. It doesn't help that there is already a GREAT song called Stagger Lee (based on the same true event, I suppose). And the original isn't a self-indulgent abstraction of the idea of music like this is. I can believe this guy has done better, though, and I'm off to look for that now. Bottom line: If you've gotten to the point where you can only imagine making grotesque reflections ABOUT art, you should just find something else to do. This is the musical equivalent of someone who can only get aroused by watching oiled up midgets in walrus costumes fisting each other's assholes while singing the Canadian national anthem. That's NOT sex anymore.

I don't think they would have spent much on it. It's in a studio, the set looks pretty cheap. There's only two dancers and the band. The lighting, camera work and editing is very good though, so that makes up for a lot of of it. Plus, Nick knows how to play it up for the camera.

Nick talked about Blixa’s contributions on guitar in an interview that I watched, he was not of course their lead or even rhythm guitarist, he played his guitar tracks over a mostly finished song in the studio, and they were just weird, unique riffs. They didn’t always go through The entire piece but just kind of peppered in here and there sometimes. Basically to add intrigue, an extra layer of sound. Plus he just also looked good on stage. 😊
