It breaks my heart just hearing about this. Cats are living creatures with feelings, fears, likes, and dislikes. They should be treated humanely.😢

Dog people are cruel. My apartment, city, and county all have leash laws but still residents here purposely take their dogs off the leash to chase and attack the stray cats. It's so cruel and heartbreaking to watch. I've gone out and yelled at them but they think its funny to torment cats. This is how I got my two cats -- they were two of the many cats here that got attacked. You're a good man for caring and giving your cats the best life possible.

I think most dog people do care about other animals. But there are some that let their dogs off leash just for fun. It's a crime.

@@9LivesToLive Here's the psychology: Cat people will tolerate dogs, but dog people hate cats. Cats and cat people are independent and do their own thing. Dogs and dog people are needy. When you come home, the dog runs to you, kisses you, follows you around, listens to your commands. Dog people crave that constant attention and companionship from dogs and people, which is why they hate cats because cats are independent and don't need them.
This connects with the bullying aspect of dog people naturally bullying weaker, defenseless animals and people. While cat people tend to nuture all life (people and animals).

@@dlight9849 I totally agree with your assessment but I adore dogs too. Cats are just more my vibe. Some humans are just idiot f*ckheads and don’t n my opinion they are the weak ones. The only thing they have in a dogs are typically bigger with more physical strength but overall anyone who hates anything in general for no reason has some deep emotional work to do. The insecurity is palpable with those types.

I lost a pet Cat many years ago to a Dog attack, and it still sticks with me! Sadly, People who either hate or have no feeling toward animals, usually aren't any better when it comes to people! All creatures deserve, Love and Respect! I hope the stray cat recovers, and your right, it's not the Dogs fault, but the Neighbor's attitude shows poor morals!

I completely agree with all of this. Last year, there were about 5 cat deaths of the strays here. I always fed them, every single day. I never thought this would happen as I’ve lived here for about 6 years now and had no issue. It was 3 dogs, and they did so on 2-3 different occasions spanning throughout the year. So it was unpredictable, and it just broke my heart. So so much, I’d named them kitties. I’d loved them relentlessly, and even watched some of them grow up from kittens. It still hurts me very badly to even think or talk about it really. The dogs were believed to be dogs from about a block or two over from our street. But we’ve still yet to find them or the owners. It’s such a sad situation as it made me feel powerless, and I still do.

I have an indoor female, Bombay cat that weighs approx 20 lbs. The neighborhood cats hang out in my backyard since I buy 40 lbs of cat food just for them, have a warming house, blankets, and warm pillows where they sleep most nights. A few stay here 90% of the time. I also feed squirrels, 6 to 10 Doves, Hummingbirds, Finches, Wrens, Jays, and other small northern California birds daily. The cats don't bother the Birds since I feed them well. I keep 4 large containers and a birdbath filled with fresh water. Today several Doves, small birds, and a squirrel ate together in a large seed, and corn feeder built on my fence. It's fun to see them share.
I would be devastated if a neighbor's dog harmed any of the cats or other critters I care for. I pray the cat will recover. Some people don't have any compassion, which is sad.
God bless you and thank you for sharing your knowledge.

100%. so sad. Thankful for your compassion. I rescued a cat that was hit by a car. Cat's jaw was broken , the guy shrugged and said "its okay". Wanted to do something not so nice to him for that cruel attitude, but instead took the cat to the hospital and they were able to fix his jaw. Lived with me 13 years. People are so mean and heartless.😢

As a dog AND cat owner and rescuer, I had to accept the fact that there are some breeds of dogs, such as the greyhound family, terrier breeds, and the husky group, that have a high prey drive. I've had experience with all three, and I don't trust them...ever. Of course you will hear of exceptions; I had a pair myself, best friends of stray cat and whippet. But there are also stories not much talked about or in embarrassed tones, of a husky raised with a cat that one day decided to hunt it, or a terrier that turned on a house cat in an instant. For me, prevention and separation are preferable to regret. My dogs do not have the run of the house. And my cats live in dog-free areas. Even their catio is the other side of the house from where the dogs can see them, because the cats don't deserve the stress of being barked at. As for loose dogs and stray cats, I have nothing nice to say. Their situation is due to irresponsible, reprehensible humans somewhere along the line.

We have taken in and tamed three feral cats. We have paid to have several more cats neutered and had to release them because they were too wild, but we continue to care for any that come to our yard. We try to make sure they're not on any of the missing pet lists and check with neighbors, but we have a tall fenced yard that many seek safety in since we have a covered porch and our cats have a catio plus there are two sheds to hide under. We have one permanent resident under one shed that we've build warming boxes for, but she still prefers the shed. We were able to catch her one time and get her fixed and all her shots, but she hasn't ever trusted us other than eating food and water we put out for her. We just keep an eye on her from the house.

I think an important point is that stray cats didn't choose to live in these neighbourhoods, they or their ancestors have been abandoned. So us humans are responsible and the bare minimum is not to harm them. What untrained dogs do in the yard may be beyond our control. But on walks, its absolutely necessary to keep an untrained dog on a leash.
I just found your channel, I don't own cats but am contemplating adopting a pair from a shelter im the future. You have some great advice on here, thank you for that.🙏

Thank you for your video. We are trying to help an abandoned kitty in our neighborhood and at the same time try to understand our cat's territorial behavior that makes it impossible to take that kitty in. It's overwhelming and your videos are helping me get some understanding of what is going on. I'm unhappy about this cat being abandoned and hanging out on our porch- we are trying to find the best course- the neighborhood dogs haven't made it easy for this cat either... thanks for your videos~

One of the neighborhood strays walked into my home in February, 2023, suffering from an old bite wound that had gotten infected, and the infection went through his whole body. It was awful, and took months to treat. Bite wounds from animals can get badly infected, and it's excruciatingly painful, worse than the initial mauling. I don't fault people for their ignorance, but I fault them for their know-it-all, willful stupidity, when they refuse to learn.

I am grateful that you care enough for the cat to make a video statement to remind people, and hopefully your neighbour, that every living creature has the right to live a peaceful, non violent life, to the best of its ability. Some humans are the main ones to ignore this principle. Live and let live. Bless those that take it a step further and care for these strays. Animals feel pain as we do, and to be mauled by a dog, is terrifying and so very painful...like it would be for us. Please be compassionate to animals, like the man who made the video

Thank you for sharing with us, we feel your frustration too. For the people who don't care about cats, I can say only one thing: If there are less cat, there will be more mice in your homes. Think about that when you train your dogs to be hostile.

  • @jennie9
    @jennie9 2 місяці тому +1

With the neighbour being so unfeeling about the cat that he won't even try to help it after the attack, I'm wondering how he treats his dog. I'm guessing that it's not always with kindness unfortunately. I think it's possible to train many dogs to get along with cats and it's certainly possible to train them to stop what they're doing but dogs often don't do well with cats they don't know, especially if the cat runs.
I hope the cat is okay in the long run. 😢 And I hope that you're okay. The attack was bad enough but your neighbour's callousness makes it even worse. That can be difficult to take in and process.

Some people, owning bigger dogs, are completely careless about these things. They even let big dogs run around a leech! My mom's small chihuahua had been attacked by a big dog when she was out alone. But she didn't notice that he was hurt. Long time afterwards he started to look sick and we had to take him to hospital. Turns out he had gotten a rather big scar and that had been infected. The people owning that big dog that attacked him will never know what actually happened, and I wish them the very worst! Luckily my mom's dog recovered, but he had to suffer a long time and obviously this also cost us money.

He has 2 houses, one light built and one insulated for winter. I trap him and take him for vaccinations and he has been neutered and chipped. He has started to let me touch him.

I value all life. All of it. Everyone should in my opinion. It’s my belief that if an animal becomes injured by your animal that you should morally see to its care. I wish we lived in a world where humans would conduct themselves this way because they care but maybe if we can impress on people that it’s simply the right thing to do, just like if a kid was in your yard and got hurt you’d be responsible for the treatment of that child. We need stronger animal protection laws so so badly. If humans would just live from a place of compassion & and empathy that’d be different but as we know many can’t or won’t. I’m so sorry you had to witness that and had no recourse. I think sharing it with us was at least a way to feel like you were doing something and you were. The only thing you could do was speak out. I appreciate your pure heart. I pray that kitty is ok. Poor baby. 😢
