These also look nicer and are more easily customizable than most of the other DIYs I've seen for this. I've been thinking of doing something like this for my foster kitten room and this is purrfect. They make flat caps for 2.5 & 3in pvc. There is also a cap that fits inside that could be used instead of the cardboard. If you drill a hole on the line where the rope stops you can feed it in & use that to clamp the end of the rope. Epoxy might work better than hot glue. Really cool idea though.
Not sure about merits of using epoxy in this application. I live in an apartment, no shop. In my (limited) experience, epoxy can be fussy, and fumes unpleasant. Hot glue seems much more controllable and safe given the environment! Those caps could be a good idea.
@@johncollinge619 Alphafert brought up epoxy cuz there aren't many glues that actually stick/adhere to PVC, definitely not hot glue. Sanding the outside of the PVC will help give glue something to grip onto as well. If you're gonna go with hot glue I'd at least secure the ends with a stronger glue (maybe e6000 or epoxy..?).
I thought that too about the flat ended PVC instead of cardboard. Though cardboard is the cheaper way if your tight on money, but flat PVC end would hold up longer and would be waterproof. If u decide to go the route of getting flat ends I recommend buying the PVC primer & glue in one ($5-10) and glueing PVC pieces together with that than any other glue. Loved this whole video though, was great! :)

go to home depot and buy a basic carpet roll, wood planks (size determined on how large you want to make landing pads etc), a bunch of 1x2 wood "strips" (enough to add 4 of them inside each footer tube), 1/2 inch or thicker plywood, rope/twine (same as in this video), PVC pipes (same as in this video), a bunch of metal L brackets, and cement footer tubes (diameter depends on how "thick" you want the "trunks" of the playscape/tree). Home depot also sells perfectly cut and beveled circles of wood of various sizes (located in wood section) the same wood circles he uses in this video (ua-cam.com/video/qrXH4bicHd4/v-deo.html). cut the footer tubes to desired height, cut the plywood as desired for a sturdy base so the entire playscape doesn't tip over (SO A PRETTY LARGE BASE). use the 1x2 wood and screw inside the tubes (cut the length so it's the exact height as the footer tubes so the landings have something to attach to). There should be 4 pieces of the 1x2's inside the footer tubes (top, bottom, left and right) evenly spaced inside the tubes. arrange as desired. glue and staple gun carpet as desired (if using staples arrange them where the cat wont likely scratch to prevent injury), same with rope (mostly just rope the PVC pipe to cut on cost). Mount the footers to the plywood base with heavy duty L brackets (attaching them to the aforementioned 1x2 wood screwed inside the footer tubes) and hide the brackets under the carpet by cutting an X into the carpet, screw into the plywood, then glue the carpet back over the exposed bracket. Attach the landings by either screwing directly down into the 1x2's or using the L brackets... I'm sure you can figure it out once you have all the materials.
Wonderful idea!!! Yup wood block inside the wall end cap and use pvc adhesive to keep the end cap on (it fuses the plastics and welds it so its as strong as if it were one part). The screws will quite rapidly eat/saw/deform their way through the pvc as it gets used as pvc is soft.

Cat lover here. Just subscribed b/c: 1. I'd love to see more vids building cat towers, perches, scratching posts, etc; 2. You are very clear (thanks) and make process simple for those of us less experienced and you say why you do stuff so I can learn; and 3. You are left handed and it helps to see how to work left-handed. Please Please Please make videos about how to use power tools and do stuff as a left-hander -- some tools seem designed for right-handers (like circular saws) and maybe you have suggestions from your experience. Thanks so much and success to you.
@@aaronfixesstuff I really hope you make an "Out In Left Field Tool Use" series. I know it would make power tools, for example, more accessible to me. And I bet there are other hand tool set ups that you can describe to a left-hander (or at least suggestions about how to use guides mounted for right-handers). And -- nudge nudge -- demonstrating while making cat accessories is a bonus. Best wishes.
Is it possible to list all of the supplies needed to do this project in the video details or something, please & thank you!!! I love this video, thanks so much for posting. Direct & straight to the point. Simple directions & detailed.👍🖤🙃
@@thejudgmentalcat I had to rewrap my cat stands with rope after they had torn through the old rope, and I just used regular hot glue then let it set overnight. They tear on both stand daily but the rope has held up wonderfully.
@@robinrowe8025 if you get hot glue on carpet or fabric just put an old towel down on it and iron over it. The towel will soak up the glue once it softens back up
Brilliant idea. Brilliant for the cats. Your dog is gorgeous also. One little suggestion I hope you don't mind..the hammock lengths and depths look very small for cats. If I'm doing it, I will measure my cats length from head to tip of tail (room to stretch out ) and then top of cats shoulder down towards end of paw) (curling up room). Thanks so much for video.
I can see you were struggling a good deal with the ropes sliding around while you worked, would highly recommend scoring up the outside of the pvc with something rough so that the rope has more friction to stay put! It will also help with having the glue a rough surface to adhere to, hot glue and smooth stuff generally doesn't hold super well. Looks sick though.
Absolutely brilliant Aaron, it's actually quite simple to achieve for a great amount of pleasure and fun for our furry friends. I've subscribed! Thankyou for sharing your skill 😺
i followed this tutorial and it worked PERFECTLY! The only note I’d add is it’s easier to spin the PVC pipe and glue as the rope wraps itself instead of trying to manually wrap it around yourself. TY for sharing!
This is so perfect! I wish I had this ability. I tried doing two cat trees during quarantine. I love doing it. But I did suffer cuz of my inexperience and lack of tools.
Lack of tools can be an issue. Keep in mind that many tools can be rented. Also, sometimes you can substitute a power tool for a manual one. Feel free to ask questions. I try to get back to all questions. :)
That was a great cost-effective way to create a cozy space for your cats. Would you mind sharing what material your sister used to make the hammocks? Also, after a month of use do you cats still use the system you made?

I just learned from another DIY video that Gorilla Glue makes hot glue sticks. I’ve had hot glue come off before on certain materials so wondering how the Gorilla glue would hold up. Love this idea! I want to try this!
Glad to hear Ginger. Stay tuned, I have a few more cat DIY ideas I’m working on.
❤❤❤❤ thank you for sharing your idea to you and your sister
Good instructions, easy to follow. You can also wash the hammocks ❤
The kind of construction I have been looking for❤❤❤
Great idea! Thanks for the tutorial, came out at just the right time too!
Hannah Amos thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😄
Super thumbs up..... I am doing this for my fur friends.
Thanks for this tutorial, I made a hammock for my cat and she is happy
I’m so happy to hear! Thanks for your support!
What a fantastic Idea. Thanks for sharing.
After all, cats like narrow places and high places 🥰🥰🐱🐱
Super idée d’utiliser les tubes de pvc...
Je vais essayer de vous copier et de fabriquer la même chose avec l’aide de mon fils , pour le plaisir de nos 2 chats.
Bonnes fêtes de fin d’année de France...
Merci Julien!!
I liked this it looked good and didnt appear too difficult great simplicity and your step by step tutorial was very good and detailed very thoughly thought out well done great video and it worked out really great. Laura in uk
Hi Laura! Thanks for taking the time to provide the feedback. I’m glad you found it easy to follow. I made another cat video, feel free to check it out :)

Well done :P happy kitties happy life
Loved this! Awesome work!
zooloo579 thank you so much 😊
Great idea. Simple and easy to do, creative.
Absolutely genius! I Love it! Will do in my new house soon!
Awesome post!! Thank you and your sister!! We created all the tubes… but discovered we only have drywall (unless we hit metal). We used plastic anchors, but the tubes spun and wiggled loose :( What would you recommend us doing? Thank you!
OMGoodness, I feel like I will begin my cat wall NOW!!! TYSM!!!!
Yay!! I’m so glad to help!! I also posted an updated video from a few years later. Feel free to check it out on my page!
Love this. So simple and inexpensive. 🙌🙌
Thanks Remy! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Marvelous idea Aaron my thanks to you for sharing and to your Sister also my thanks for the true beautiful idea, Kind regards
This is incredible. My cats will love it. Thank you for the tutorial. 😁🐈
Nathaly Lopez of course! Glad you enjoyed it.
I thumbs uped as soon as you gave me extra cat footage. You sir are amazing 😻
Thank you for watching! So many people skip through the video and then complain that there isn’t cat footage in there.
This is so cool my dad is going to do it for me this weekend 🙀😁
Glad to hear! I posted another cat video. Check it out, you might want him to make you that one as well :)
What a nice dad!!
Well done Bro.👍👍👍❤
Cat lover here. Just subscribed b/c: 1. I'd love to see more vids building cat towers, perches, scratching posts, etc; 2. You are very clear (thanks) and make process simple for those of us less experienced and you say why you do stuff so I can learn; and 3. You are left handed and it helps to see how to work left-handed. Please Please Please make videos about how to use power tools and do stuff as a left-hander -- some tools seem designed for right-handers (like circular saws) and maybe you have suggestions from your experience. Thanks so much and success to you.
Wow! Thanks so much for the kind words! I never thought of that idea. Maybe I will make a series about using tools as a left handed person!!
Best wishes.
this video is so attractive for no reason
Is it possible to list all of the supplies needed to do this project in the video details or something, please & thank you!!! I love this video, thanks so much for posting. Direct & straight to the point. Simple directions & detailed.👍🖤🙃
Yes, please post the supplies! :D
Specifically what kind of glue? Special industrial type?
@@thejudgmentalcat I had to rewrap my cat stands with rope after they had torn through the old rope, and I just used regular hot glue then let it set overnight. They tear on both stand daily but the rope has held up wonderfully.
@@thejudgmentalcat hot glue is what he used. But don't do it on the carpet like he did unless you want to cut the glue out later.
What a great idea!! I wish I had considered that! Appreciate the good feedback :)
This is the best diy I've seen. It's simple, cheap, and many commenters added improvements. I love this, thanks for sharing
Yes! I always love reading comments to see other suggestions. Glad you enjoyed this.
Such a simple but so effective idea! I am planning on doing this in my home, thanks to your explanations of the job and sisters idea! Love it ❤👍👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
Very good idea. I like it. Thank you for showing us how you did it. 🤗🌹💕
Of course!! Glad to help!!
Absolutely brilliant Aaron, it's actually quite simple to achieve for a great amount of pleasure and fun for our furry friends. I've subscribed! Thankyou for sharing your skill 😺
Of course! I’m glad you enjoyed this, and thank you for supporting my channel!
i followed this tutorial and it worked PERFECTLY! The only note I’d add is it’s easier to spin the PVC pipe and glue as the rope wraps itself instead of trying to manually wrap it around yourself. TY for sharing!
That’s great to hear! I’m happy it worked out. Also that’s smart!! I wish I had thought of that 🤣
Could have drilled a hole at the end section to run the rope through, then glued it to more securely hold the rope.
Good point. I didn’t want the rope secured too well, in order to give me the option to replace it when the cats wear it out.
Your cats: “Wake me up when you’re done”. 😂😂😂
They look great and I see the cats are loving your hard work. 😻
They still love it 😍
This is so perfect!
But the tools are a one time buy so future projects would be easier
@@aaronfixesstuff thank you so much for the answer!
That is the cutest EVER!
Thank you for the kind feedback!!
Great video! Wish I had a wall I could do this on.
And a cat 😭😂
“And a cat” 😂😂😂
This is your time!
everything ive bought beds boxes rugs etc they dont want to know.but love this .great job
That was a great cost-effective way to create a cozy space for your cats. Would you mind sharing what material your sister used to make the hammocks? Also, after a month of use do you cats still use the system you made?
They are as good as they were on day one :) I will ask her to comment below with the material she used. Thanks for watching!
I used felt I had laying around. They seem to love it more than cotton. I might make another with faux fur
@@anneabelle2514 What other fabrics would you recommend? I'm looking online and having a hard time choosing. I dont want my energetic fur baby to leap onto it from a height (as I know he will eventually do) and break it.
@@SpookeeOne carpet , faux fur
Denim would work too.
Brilliant!
My concerns is the cap where you screw the lag screw in going to be handle the weight of larger 15-20 lb cats?
Go bigger💜
Use a washer on that lag and should be good. Stuff is pretty strong but definitely need something wider around the head of the lag for more support for the cap.
I didn’t get a good look at the lag. What is a lag?
@@icantdance6813 essentially a screw sometimes called lag bolts
That’s awesome, I would like to make that on my fence, that just opened the floodgates to my mind ideas are flowing, thank you
I love feedback like this! Thanks for taking the time to comment :)
