The white rat looked exactly as my dead rat, I miss him, his name was Eddie, he had a brother named Darwin, they were both albino. May you rest in heaven and peace Eddie and Darwin.
Rats are awfully smart. They're very sympathetic too, I've seen a video where the rat had the choice between food or helping another rat, they chose to help before eating. They're also very clean and friendly, probably smarter than most pets. I've seen rats who know tons of tricks like opening doors and sorting trash. They're totally underrated pets
dallon weekes makes me dallon weak true! Ive owned my fair share( we are moving so i can't get my newbies yet) but they are very empathetic and sweet, as well as amazing intelligent creatures! Truly amazing pets
I've never been as attached to any pet as I was to our two rats. One of mine found a ticklish spot on my neck and would deliberately tickle me with kisses. After that, I learned research had shown rats love tickling either and being tickled. It was unexpectedly difficult for us when they died. If they weren't so short lived, I'd get more!
This is only the half truth. Sure, rats can rescue a pal in danger but only if they have positive connections with each other. When the opposite is the case they will ignore the other rat completely
smi Lee I think your Environment is the reason why you fear them in the first place because it's unnoticely imprinting you from child's age on what to like and what to be afraid off. That's why it's possible that people are afraid of animals who are more or less harmless due to bad experiences in the childhood
Remy loses his job at the restaurant after a health inspection results in the restaurant closing down. Remy tried his best to survive...until he meets a new friend and is given a new job. Will everything work out to his favor or would he be the next snack?
Right? I guess it’s how you look at it. Maybe different or out of the ordinary. Messing with the natural order of things. Would these cats be able to keep my apt, house, yard or garden mouse/rat free?
Sorry, you're mistaken. Animal psychologists have evidenced by experiment that if baby animals are not socialized to accept other species in infancy, they will automatically reject any except their own. All baby animals (young enough) will accept attention from any individual that is kind to them. This is a survival advantage, not the same as love. The rats had ALREADY been habituated to cats, they had LEARNED not to be afraid of them. Rats are naturally fearful of all predators. This can only be overcome by very early social conditioning. This is programmed into most animals by natural selection, meaning, the genetic lines that were MORE FEARFUL, were more successful than the genetic lines that were LESS FEARFUL. Would be nice if you were right. Sadly, that's just not the way the world works.
raymund usi my dog costed way more money than my rats in terms of food/toys/vet but then again im lucky my rats didnt have any health problems because if they did they im sure it would of costed a hell of a lot 😄
Rats can be expensive because of vet bills, they get sick pretty easily. It's still not as much as you'd spend on a dog or a cat as they get older, but part of that is just cuz rats don't live nearly as long It's a crapshoot though. I have 3 rats and 2 of them have never had any health problems, but the last one gets sick so easy that we've got a cabinet full of medications just for him
I have rats since I was 5 years old. They are such good pets and helped me to get through a lot. The only bad thing about them is their short lifespan...
I had a rat that used to beat up my German Shepherd. She was terrified of him. He would chase her and she would have to jump up on the bed to get away from him.
Long-term rat owner here. I have never raised a rat that wasn't as sweet and smart as any dog I've owned. Like any animal, the only way a rat will be aggressive is if it was not bred by a good pet rat breeder, not socialized from birth and/or mistreated. The ONLY negative IMO is the short lifespan (2 to 2 1/2 years 😢). I love my rats as much as any pet, so every two years I am heartbroken to lose one of my girls. The only salve is a pair of baby rats. Lol.
DrKate L. I admire you. I love animals but never thought or knew rats where pets too. Do you have any rat stories. I am into writing and illustrating .?it could be nice way to educate people. Its unique of you. Do they get along with cats? Liah
I always thought rats are really cool, intelligent, they can survive almost anywhere, and they make friendly pets. I had a few and whenever I heard them running in their wheel at night the first few times it annoyed me but later it always made me smile. It's cute background noise knowing they're having fun. Each time I cleaned their cage they got all excited building their "bedroom" and their "storage room", they had a distinct place for everything, they were very organised, also very curious and smart.
Ian Babcock I took in a cat that was going to be put down, currently dying if chronic allergies and an upper respiratory infection. I'm very happy he didn't get put down though.
My daughter and I had a pet rat that she named "Kitty". Kitty was a great friend and companion to our 2 cats and 75lb dog. She was litterbox trained and loved by the whole family. We went to the pet shop to get a hamster but she won us over with her charm.

I LOVE RATS! And this is awesome. I really hope one day the stigma around rats change and people can see them for the beautiful fluffy things they really are.
On behalf of all these animals thankyou for your OUTSTANDING care you do these animals proud and animal lovers, keep up the amazing work, lots of love xxxxxx
Thank you Barcroft, for showing this to the world. It's great to see videos where people debunk stereotypes around rats. They are the greatest pets that exist. ❤️
stfuanine ikr!! I always get annoyed with dem stereotypes, especially when they compare mice to rats. All animals are equal, and to me, they are all adorable in their own special way!
Such a shame that rats have such a stigma attached to them, fancy rats are lovely inquisitive little beasties after owning two lots of four sisters I know that they are wonderful amazing pets, however at the moment I have a little bit guinea pig called chubbs and he's really helped with my depression nd anxiety
Emlah9081 because wild ones aren’t as nice as ones that have been treated as a pet since birth. There are so many instances in where rats will chew on infant humans also they’re dirty and carry many diseases also they overpopulate.
Well..... these are partially true...... I've come in contact with wild animals including wild rats and they are not like pets where they will be completely calm and friendly towards humans.... but they dont attack or show aggression either. They are just nervous. Second, the whole rats being dirty and overpopulating isnt the rats fault, its ours. Rats are filthy because of the massive garbage and polution we humans create. They are much cleaner in the wild. And the reason theres so many of them and they are pretty much pests is because we destroy the natural environment they come from. ANd in doing so remove the things that keep their population in check, like predators. So its our fault that rats are in the situation they live in now, not theirs. Besides all that, this shows that animals are just as capable of intelligence and empathy as we humans are.
Arenita R. "Wild animals are not "nice", because they are wild. Have you seen any "nice" wild tigers or wild lions lately? They will gladly "'chew on an infant". Overpopulate???? Humans are the only species that "overpopulate". And they (humans) are by far the dirtiest creatures and carry the most diseases. You are far more likely to get a disease from a human than from an animal. That is a fact.
Mosly true comment, but believe it or not, there are actually lots of wild animals that will not actively threaten or attack humans, depending mostly on what the humans do. This includes animals like tigers and lions believe it or not. I've seen people interact with wild wolves just as an example, and no not wolves who are kept in cages or are fed by humans, or live near human habitat, i mean fully wild wol;ves. But of course these people understand wolf behaviour, and knew how to interact with them. Otherwise the rest of your comment is fully correct, especially about humans.
Rats are great pets and are very smart, people just see them as pests, but if you actually spent time with one you'd realize it's like having a tiny little dog lol
I love rats and cats! This is so wholesome. I just rescued two kittens and now that they’re doing healthier they’ve been able to spend some time with my rat! 🥰 get them used to them for when they’re older
So glad to see rats getting a good press for once. I have kept a lot of different caged pets over the years and can honestly say that rats are the best by far. They are affectionate, playful, inquisitive, really good fun, and can learn to do activities. There are also a wide range of lovely colours to be found from specialist breeders, or you can obtain them from rescue centres that have rats, as well as pet shops. If you're on the fence about a caged pet, please consider a rat, you'll be glad you did !
Growing up, my sibling also had a variety of pet rodents, and the rats really were the smartest, and just about the longest lived as well. The only downside is that they've got all the pep and personality of any cat or dog, so it hurts just as much when they go... and they go so fast.
I miss my girls 😭 They were so funny and cozy and sweet and smart. But I didn't keep them in a cage very often after I tamed them...You have to be willing to spend a lot of time on them and/or keep their cage door open.
I suffer from asthma and I'm allergic to cats, so I couldn't go into that kind of place. But I still think this cat cafe is a wonderful place. What a lovely service these humans are doing for the cats and customers alike. And let's not forget the cute little nanny rats ❤️
well, im allergic too and i have a cat as well. when she first came to my house i had some allergies, but as the time passed, i didnt have any more. you just get used to it XD
@@Madheim777 Unfortunately my allergy to cats is too severe. But it's milder with dogs. I have a bichon frise. They're great for allergy sufferers because they don't shed and have less dander. So I don't completely miss out.
This is such a great idea for people to be able to come and spend their time to visit with the cats & rats. Offering the animals for adoption is very cool way to get people used to handling the animals and learn about them and you can even adopt and take one home.. Really Great. Keep up the great work 👍🏼xx
I inherited a rat I did not initially want from my daughter. Ended up absolutely falling in love with her, took her everywhere with me. She was so smart and very affectionate. I totally get having these rats looking after the kittens!
The black plague wasn't caused or spread by rats. Humans actually caused it by leaving dead livestock in the streets which the fleas drank the blood from and got the plague.humans also spread it by moving livestock around, not taking bathes, slerping with their livestock and living really close together. The only reason wild rats carry disease is cause of our filthy habits.
I know right? However I did see a couple of replies in the comment section that were out right disrespectful to People who’ve lost their rats. I wish people would learn that just because they don’t like an animal doesn’t warrant them to be hateful to people who do like that certain animal.
its probably because as cute as this is, its still endangering to house predator and prey, and rats shouldnt be kept in tank like enclosures due to sensitive respiratory systems.
I think it's different with rats that are bred for pets . They are more open to things and not as scared or dirty . I have no idea why but any pet rat I met acted like any other pet .
Most pet rats aren't the same species as most city rats. Also, rats are very smart, so they learn quickly whither humans are food givers and nice or predators looking to kill them.
I loved the cafe and loved the cats! Ended up adopting a cat there! Thanks for making this a possibility for me! Me and scruff(her new name] are getting along great!
This is genius!! Of course I'm a cat lover but I've also had pet rats whom I adored. They are great pets and I LOVE seeing these two paired together. Thank you for your business/service!
Our Wednesday adores our 3 mice. She climbs into the tank with them and especially loves one mouse named Skittles. They chase each other when he is in his hamster ball! She will rub her face all over him when we hold him outside the cage. It is absolutely adorable!
I have seen more videos of animals that act outside of their stereotypical roles. This is a great example. The kittens will really benefit from grooming and caring, no matter what the animal. Rats are social so this is great for them to be a part of a larger group and get love and cuddles back. A win/win situation. Very beautiful. ~❣️
This is why I dislike stigma. Scottish have stigma too and I’m nothing like that. Bullies spread rumours about me n it wasn’t true. Stigmas are basically rumours and usually untrue or greatly exaggerated

The Selfish Gene. All ideas are memes. We pass memes to each other with our words and actions. "The Wheelbarrow" is an old old meme. "trump cultists are 5th column, unproductive, useless eaters" is a newer meme. "That mushroom is poisonous " is a life saving meme. "The Lost Cause" myth meme is a killer. "Day of the rope," "Great Replacement," "the JQ," and "Despite..." are all examples of harmful memes. Not all ideas are good, some can make you commit "an hero." You can think of those... almost like they are diseases. Or viruses.

I’m really confused, isn’t New York rat infested why would they want cats to not be a threat to rats???
Hatred is learned, love comes naturally.
Meow so do natural hunting instincts.
Meow
“Love is in all of us.”

Hate is a natural fear response much like reproductive/communal emotions such as love.

Chrissy Is A TeeHee ._. But they're maintenance is more expensive that dogs
raymund usi they're no more expensive then hamsters in the long run. You just need to have enough time for them
raymund usi my dog costed way more money than my rats in terms of food/toys/vet but then again im lucky my rats didnt have any health problems because if they did they im sure it would of costed a hell of a lot 😄
Rats can be expensive because of vet bills, they get sick pretty easily. It's still not as much as you'd spend on a dog or a cat as they get older, but part of that is just cuz rats don't live nearly as long
It's a crapshoot though. I have 3 rats and 2 of them have never had any health problems, but the last one gets sick so easy that we've got a cabinet full of medications just for him

Lol.

I always thought rats are really cool, intelligent, they can survive almost anywhere, and they make friendly pets. I had a few and whenever I heard them running in their wheel at night the first few times it annoyed me but later it always made me smile. It's cute background noise knowing they're having fun.
That is a fact.
simozimo09 lol oh boy you’re “one of those people” you refer to us as “they” like you’re not a human yourself.

The black plague wasn't caused or spread by rats.
Humans actually caused it by leaving dead livestock in the streets which the fleas drank the blood from and got the plague.humans also spread it by moving livestock around, not taking bathes, slerping with their livestock and living really close together.

Natalie Luders why can't you have hamsters?
Mina Kiel we have major strict quarantine laws in every state of australia they are worried they could be set free and compete with our wildlife
Natalie Luders same thing here in Hawaii, I had to put my dog in quarantine for 3 months bc he could've had rabies.
Mina Kiel Because they could become an introduced species and end up like our rabbit and Minah bird problems.
You also have those nasty Tree Hanging Spiders too. Was living in Brissie (back in NZ now) in 2001-2003 and went to mow the lawns for my Late Step Father & went to push the mower to get under the Bush and i just happened to look up and seen this massive Spider hanging from the branch with these sacs out the back. ... I NEVER done the lawns again. Aussie has some really nasty creepy crawlies!! 😨😨😨
