I am not an expert but I think you'll find your running that size cutter way to fast and it could be causing a resonance in the spindle due to the excessive speed?

I just broke the set screw in the spindle in the same mill.
So I can relate to your difficulties. I wish you all the best.

This pulsating noise is coming because of the rpm is closer to the machines natural frequency. Yes, it's physics. the only way to fix this by adding some extra weight to your machine to shift the natural frequency from the rpm you are trying. If you even add a sand bag on the base this might add 40 kgs and may shift the noise. Try it and let us know. Your fear that higher speed will blow it up may not be true. As the higher speed may be far away from machines natural frequency may run smoothly. just go one step up and see if the pulsating noise is gone or not.

Very simple fix,put a few drops of oil in the splines where the draw bar is,and ready to go.

I have the same mill, mine made a similar noise. It was the pulley setscrew on the motor. Nothing some loc-tite didn't fix. Good luck

You might try taking the belt off the motor pulley and see if the vibration is in the motor or the pulleys or the spindle.. Then take the belt off of the spindle pulley and see if the motor and intermediate pulley are causing vibration. Next, re-attach spindle belt and try it without the present cutter installed. Cutter may not be balanced. Also, make sure the quill is locked down.

    another Grizzly 'deluxe' feature...
Power Saver Mode... the motor is only powered half the time.
Uses half the power and 1/3 of the cost of a motor that can maintain a constant RPM.. : )
