Back in March Emory Hunt rated Gibbs higher than Robinson. Hunt gave Gibbs a 90 and compared him to The Saints RB Alvin Kamara. We know that HC Dan Campbell came from The Saints and knows how important a RB that can catch the football. Gibbs had 43 catches last year. By trading down to get him got The Lions another good pick. With the resurgence of QB Jared Goff , drafting QB Hendon Hooker was perfect at that spot. This gives him a year or two to learn and fully heal. The Lions are building the roster the right way. Through the draft and an occasional FA addition. The Lions scored when they hired Chris Speilman, GM Brad Holmes and HC Dan Campbell. I'm proud today to be a Lions fan. It's been decades since I have been able to say that.

Detroit is both a pass or run team now. While Gibbs will be used like Debo he’ll also be a running back especially on 1st downs. Detroit uses rb by committee because Goff is strictly a play action pass qb. Swift was a liability to the whole offense! I saw this before FA and was told i didn’t know shit about football when I said we’d take a rb with the first pick trading back. Brad did a great job keeping this huge need a secret. Lions were getting a lot of criticism early on for this draft but now everyone is flipping. I get it, it's not what we expected but we should have known when Holmes said, he didn't think the shelf was that bare on defense, then later, they hadn't even got to evaluating the defensive line prospects. It just wasn't a top priority likle we thought. Don't forget, we brought a lot of those guys back and we have some young guys like Paschal, Houston, and Hutch who are just going to get better. The line was pretty good and I think they had some guys on their board that were just gone. Gibbs is going to be huge upgrade over Swift. Not only is he better but he's had a fairly healthy career not missing many games like Swift. The impact of Jack Cambell is going to be huge. Just because he's a linebacker, don't underestimate how much he's going to make a difference at a position of need, probably moreso then the defensive line that did a good job getting pressure on the QB when healthy. And the secondary got a huge upgrade in free agency. We got a couple of good defensive players that were not even a available like Walker and Levi if they come back full strength. I do wish we could have gotten some good defensive and offensive linemen earlier but they picked BPA for the impact they thought would improve this team and just because it's not who everyone thought, doesn't mean it was. They know what they need. Remember the difference Gurly made for Goff with the Rams. We need a strong running game because Goff is a pure pocket passer and we also need guys like Gibbs and a good tight end whom give Goff more options to pass to and they did that. Gibbs is our Gurly and this offense is going to be so dynamic, especially when Jamo gets back and that wasn't Brad and Fans fault. They got the guys that were available they wanted according to their draft board that would make an impact on this team just like they should have. Only time will tell if they were right, not Mel Kipers or my draft board but Brad, Dan, and the Detroit Lions draft board but the last two years they've done a damn good job so let's wait and see and I have a feeling they are going to be just fine

He's good, not great. Prob about 10-15th best QB. I like Hooker pick for that reason. They didn't invest a 1st/high 2nd in a QB to push Goff out the door. Hooker went 3rd Rd. It's his job to lose, but you have someone behind him who prob can be a starter. He's also older, so he can step in and compete immediately if Goff falters.

Gibbs is a tenacious runner. More explosive and stronger than Swift. Ridiculous burst, has another gear that a lot of guys don't have. Best hands at the position in this draft and better than Swift again. Doesn’t run scared. I expect Gibbs to be a huge part of Johnson's offense, and when both he and Jamo are on the field, they will have two guys that can take it to the house from anywhere. With LaPorta and ARSB going over the middle, they have weapons at every level of the offense. On top of that, they've added playmakers at every level of the defense starting with Hutch, everything they did in FA, and now with Campbell and Branch. Upgrading positions with guys that have an incredibly high probability of not just being starters, but cornerstone guys. Everyone wanted a LB and we got the best one, all I hear is crying. I expect this team to be dangerous and in no small part because of the guys they drafted this year.

@@Slamit88 thanks! yeah I mean this is more or less what Holmes said he wanted to do when he came in right? Get playmakers, guys that have high compete level, guys that want to impose their will. Campbell has a nose for the ball and he'll definitely be looking to force some turnovers in the middle of that defense. I know people don't place "high value" on these positions but a stud LB is invaluable in the middle of the D and these guys don't grow on trees, especially when you talk about the size paired with the athleticism of Campbell. He projects very very well. Thin draft at the positions these mock draft guys place high value on. Got yourself a handful of starters to round out your weakest points, and again the intangibles these guys have project very well at the NFL level. And like you said, the RB room is an entirely different animal now than it was a year ago, and they also picked up Mo Ibrahim as a UDFA. Gives you another option for a goal line banger. Holmes has done a lot of work in the off-season to significantly upgrade our weakest spots, and the loss of Jamo for 6 games shouldn't be as brutal as it would had they not picked up Gibbs and LaPorta. Top 5 offense last year, could be top 3 this year and I feel like that defense has been shored up in the weakest areas to where the DL got help by adding to the secondary and getting a big athletic LB to make plays at the second level if the DL gets beat. Too much negativity surrounding this draft. This team on paper got way way better in the off-season. How it translates to the field remains to be seen but I don't think anyone will be mad at this draft by the end of the season.

I think it's the totality of the draft. I don't really have a problem with what they did. Continuing to add playmakers at all lvls. They obviously didn't value a lot of the DL guys in this draft. You have to hit on these picks, can't be guys with high bust potential, guys they don't like, guys they don't have a vision for in their schemes. Carter was never gonna be the pick. If a player helps you immediately you take him, and Campbell is a freak and projects to be a 10 yr starter and probably an all pro at a position that needs an upgrade. Going into the season with AA, Barnes and Rodrigo is not any kind of long term solution. These guys were not making it out of the first rd no matter what Kiper and McShay and Brugler say. They aren't NFL GMs last time I checked.

They've been saying best team in NFC that isn't Eagles or 49ers and that's just blasphemous clickbait. How did they improve? They lost 2 WRS to gambling. Still have Goff. Hockenson to LePorta. Big FA signing Montgomery to replace Williams. 1st rd pick reached on a RB (I say reached but he's gonna be good I get it but still a reach) to replace Swift. They stayed the same or marginally improved. At best 10 wins and an early playoff exit.

To see the absolute meltdown of the Lions' fan base after Thursday just highlights how abused we Lions fans are. 2+ years of incredible drafting, steady momentum, all unraveled by 2 picks. All confidence folks had in Holmes were gone, and they genuinely thought the Lions' run was over before it began. I was surprised too, but for me it's as simple as trusting Brad Holmes. Gibbs makes sense in the context of shopping Swift, and doubly so with the context of knowing Jameson Williams is suspended, and Gibbs gives the offense some of the burst it will be missing, and he can catch balls.
