😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
For everyone worried about Matt leaving the door open, don't panic, crime hasn't yet been invented where he lives ;-)
Where did he live again? I should drop by : D
+Global Cycling Network Yes, but what about leaving the candy jar open? I bet he's a terrible roommate :D
I was thinking about this the whole video.
Kesav Menon I dont need diets, i stay healthy with genetics. I dont have to lift a finger to stay in shape, but biking helps.
i guess they haven't invented 'diversity', because diversity equals an increase in violent crime and unrest!!!!!!!
This guy is really trusting. He leaves his front door open, and leaves his bike in front of the coffee shop.Worst of all he left the candy jar open!
he wouldn't last long where i live
Here in Mexico City you can hardly keep a bycicle secure INSIDE your home😜
We never lock our house in Scotland and I don't even own a bike lock 😉
I would take a bite of that bar
Its the uk lol
Cuts sugar from tea and coffee - puts half a pot of jam on his breakfast bagel
formit0404 oh the irony!
I have maybe 2 cups of coffee a day, the second, lighter, You won't see me cutting sugar there, nor do I eat jam, once every 2 years maybe, so, who wins.???
He isn't eating that everyday as opposed to the daily coffee.
That's why I don't cut it :P
I started out at 220 lbs, and lost 60 lbs by bike riding. I couldn't even ride two miles when I started. But every day I rode / took the train to work. I rode my bike on the train route and pushed myself out to the next stop and the next stop and the next stop til I was able to ride the 10 miles out to work, once I made it to work I started pushing my stops back home. Soon, and I mean it happened fast, I was able to ride round trip no problem. 20 miles a day, plus weekend rides of 40 miles. I gave up drinking calories and cut out snacking. Am I super skinny? No, but I can do a forty mile bike ride round trip and ride a pretty steep canyon. I feel great.... :D
About four to five months. Once I got my distance up, the chub just fell away...
I stopped snacking, if i did snsck it was fruit, and gave up drinking calories. I added my calories just from my fraps and soda and that was almost 2000 calories a day! I dont know if it will work on an excercise bike... I stricktly ride outside.
I weigh 160, i was 220, and 50 years old when i started...
***** Are we a little skeptical of the 60 lbs in 4 to 5 months ?
+LRGHMN some of that could have been water weight. You'd start swearing a whole lot compared to sitting on a train. Assuming 6 months is about 24 weeks then that's a loss of about 2-3 pounds per week. That's not too farfetched for someone who was so heavy. I doubt they would continue losing at that rate going forward though.
I need to thanks you guys for this video. I started cycling last January....... I was 268 lbs........ now I have lost 48 lbs. I followed your tips and trainings subsections. I'm 40 year's old and diabetic.... and with your videos and tips I have changed my nutrition and the way I cycling....... thanks again and keep the good work.
Thanks Luis, that's great work! Nice one.
Luis Sanchez Congratulations!!!!
Thanks kt1pl2...... I weight myself yesterday and for my surprise I lose 6 more pounds. ..... now I'm 213 lbs........ thanks again GCN!!! !!!
You're doing great!
Luis Sanchez great job!
I bought my first road bike a year ago and watched this video around the same time. I followed a lot of the advice as well as cutting down my intake of empty carbs. I downloaded strava and fell in love with chasing segments. Since then I have lost 13 kilos and am in the shape of my life. Thanks GCN!
Henry Rogers well done matey
I was reading this and had to double check it was posted by me in 2020 :-)
Recently I lost 3kg in just two seconds on the bike. I went over one of those rumble strips at speed and all my water bottles went flying everywhere. Although maybe that isn't quite what you were hoping for.
Hahaha!
just to let you guys know i lost 27kg and still going strong after watching this video. thanks gcn for a great program keep up the good work
Welcome From GCN 🙂
I like your idea of stacking calories in the earlier part of the day, "eat like a King in the morning and like a pauper in the evening" :).
It's been in Islamic preaching since always.
Sameer Malik Yeah we can see the benefits of Islamic preaching all over the world 🙄
@@PradeepMenon666 you need to be on high & clean spiritual level to see the truth but sadly like you types are deluded in fake.
@@PradeepMenon666 did anyone from Islam killed anyone in your family or your ancestor?
@@sameermalik5322 Women are not allowed to ride bicycles in Iran, which is governed by Sharia Islam. So are you just informing men?
Thank you for the videos. One year ago I was 46 years old 330 lbs 6'3 with a bad back. I know i need to do something. Very low impact. Talk to my doctor he's a cyclist made sense. Now I'm 270 lbs. and one less blood pressure pill. I think why I stick with cycling it's fun. All your videos are Great!
I Lost 90+ Lbs through Cycling and a low carb Diet I was 232 lbs now i'm 138 lbs I'm 16 and 5"10
Jamaican Egg Head Congratulations dude!
Thank you man ***** I did it by low carb diet and Motivation and determination and exercise
Jamaican Egg Head Nice going man :O
Vinod Kumar Thank you man, :) I was just tired of people calling me fat and I got frustrated
Jamaican Egg Head I did the same thing except I used a longboard. sadly the freshman 15 totally kicked my ass and now I'm 165 lbs
I have lost 20 kilos in 4 months. As soon as the pandemic started I turned to biking to manage my stress. I started riding 32 kilometers every day (6am) on my mountain bike but on a paved road, I was still stressed so I included an afternoon ride (6pm) also for 32k. In a little less than 4 months I have lost 20 kilos and I'm 5 kilos away from my target optimal weight. With a sugar-less diet, patience and a twinkle of OCD :) I have managed to keep the riding regimen and loving it.
guys true story in my country morocco i used go ride to school , college every morning 30 min ride nd back . i lost 20 pounds in one month .
I’ve been losing 1 to 2 pounds a week for 8 weeks now. Last week I pushed myself on my bike and I didn’t lose a single pound . My wife was furious. But I told her that I gained muscle that’s why I didn’t lose weight. But I also know that I eat too much . I’m a work on progress. Thank you for the advice.
Rah. Totally relatable in regards to crashing while riding. It was helpful having you explain the fall out. It takes away the guilt and makes you more aware of the issue. Cheers.
And when Matt came back home his home was totally EMPTY
This is the first video of GCN that I watched that open up my mind to cycling world. It's been couple of months and today I've my 3 weeks old Caad Optimo clocked 50km. I'm very optimistic and off course feel great with my new adventure. Thanks to my buddy as well for his encouragement!
I just began cycling again....after several decades....I love it! I feel wonderful being on my steed. It makes my life quality fantastic and the payoffs are enumerable. I am 59 look about 10 years younger* ( make sure you use a good sunscreen too.)
Diogo Dias Electrolyte drinks will often be marked as being "zero calories" or "low calorie" as they don't contain (much) energy. Something like this: www.otesports.co.uk/categories/hydro-tabs/ is an electrolyte drink as compared to this: www.otesports.co.uk/categories/energy-drinks/ which is an energy drink.
Also you can make your own electrolyte drinks at home, i do this on the turbo trainer. 1 lemon, 2 oranges, half to quarter of sea salt and top up with water to taste. I not a massive fan of the artifical sugar taste, but put up with it on a ride.
Global Cycling Network hey can you recommend which type of cycle is better to reduce the body weight? do you recommend MTB or Hybrid or Road bike??? let me know
k. vijay Any form of cycling is good to reduce body weight, however weight lose is based on other factors as well. Consistent, organized, exercise plan leads to changes in body weight and body fat, but weight lose also mean changing eating habits, reducing protein from animal fats and products, lower fat intake, and maintaining a good intake of fruits and veg.
I love it. very simple video, thorough and direct to the point. thank for the tips
These are very great tips and I look forward to using these in the upcoming season.
Thanks!
this is great!!! i admire you so much for not waiting for the rain to stop to start filming!!! i think you are great :D !
fuck dieting just ride yourself into shape
ansis maleckis how are you now😂😂😂
Icecold Water I am doing great. Thanks for asking! How are you?
ansis maleckis I mean does cycling without proper diet put you in shape😂😂😂
Icecold Water I ride 300-400 miles a week pretty much all year long. In winter if weather is totally shit I run. I eat/drink whatever I want and in whatever quantities I want and I allways stay lean. During a year my weight fluctuates 10 pounds at most. On my 6'4" (194cm) frame 10 pounds is not much. I understand that everyones metabolism is different and that for certain people this would not work but it does work for me.
ansis maleckis woah that's a great dedication dude keep it up hahahahahaha.. well for me I ride 20km a day but I cant discipline myself to diet... I just love cycling and food at the same time hahahaha
im so fat, that i start worring about my bike
It will be fine dont worry
Try consuming 1000 calories/ hour
Hope you’ve given the bike a shot brother @bisdremkostas
😂😂😂The bike is going to lose weight!
You can do it. Just start with a very short ride. The bike will be fine. If you're not comfortable with that, start with a stationary trainer at home, but realize that the miles you do there won't necessary equate to what you will eventually do on the road bike, as the resistance will be different.
I'm in Australia and it brings back fond memories seeing you ride around my old stomping ground. Also reminds me of my attempts and finally conquering Brassknocker Hill! Now subscribed.
thanxx its working for me within no time. ill surely subscribe
I'm a health professional in this area, and kudos for scientifically backed and pragmatic advice. I'd add to it that the key for guaranteed weight loss is to KNOW you are achieving a Calorie deficit most if not all days. The great majority of people who struggle with weight loss/mgt remain ignorant of how much of what to eat, year after year, relying on unbased guestimates. If you are unsure, go see a top sports dietitian and get a prescribed Calorie intake plan. General dietitians often are unable to do the calculations to accommodate rest and large volume days. Other priorities: manage stress from private and work life, go to sleep earlier and ensure good quality; stay more relaxed throughout the day (stress compromises endocrine function and favors cravings esp for wrong foods), train smart - overtraining (too much distress rather than adaptive stress) or too high a portion of high intensity will overstimulate appetite. This is esp true for athletes over 30 with other life commitments; keep your water going in continually throughout the day - most cyclists don't hydrate adequately in the morning before getting on teh bike. A 70kg male needs at least 500mls in addition to caffeine drinks to restore fluid balance. Eat at least 5 cups of vegetables and salad a day. The latest science says at least 7 and better if 9. This is where the majority of anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory micronutrients are. 2 cups of fruit are also recommended. Keep your red meat intake
Thanks for the comment Stef Ask - great stuff.
Cutting sugar.......it's a difficult habit to break.
Although when I did, I certainly noticed I had less "tired moments" during the day. In other words, my energy during the day was more steady, and I no longer had those "mid-day burnouts".
It also helped me lose weight, overall.
Same for me when I stopped drinking milk.
Hello from California in 2019! I’m going to prepare this weekend to start riding again on Monday. Finally recovered from PVNS/TGCT surgery on my left knee. I gained a bit from being inactive for so long. Thanks for this video even though it is 5 years old 😃
Awesome work. Thanks for sharing!
New Video Suggestion "How to close doors like a pro"
Matt, always full of great common sense advice !
Awesome. .Thank you for this Video. .very helpful. .Gracias from Puerto Rico
the video was super nice, thanks for the effort! I'll definitely start applying at least one or two of your advices :) cheers!
Even though I weight the same as contador, I watch this video, just because I love this channel, keep doing the good work guys !
The face expression at 3:40 is priceless. Great video :)
One of the best gcn videos I've seen
This is so good! thank you!
All very good tips and very easy to follow. Thanks
great channel and, hope the weekend is dry for my ride
I'm a mountain biker and i really enjoy watching your show. you help lots of people transform into healthy living through cycling.
Lost a ton of weight mainly by cycling and watching my caloric intake. I only have a couple one rule that I'm not flexible on:
1. No liquid calories.
Also, I'm not too fussed about performance in my workouts just yet. Ideally you'll find a routine that works for you and ignore all the "cardio is bad for weightloss" etc. bs out there. Any workout is better than none at all and you're much more likely to stick to a routine if you enjoy what you're doing.
Good information. Thank you for that buddy.
Really good video! keep coming please.
Great episode. Thank you
Great advice video from GCN, yet again ;)
svaka čast najbolji mogući savjeti
Thanks guys really helped as my new year's resolution is to actually lose weight and this is realy help me
Really useful, thanks GCN! :)
Thank you for this! Hope to one day own that Specialized!
Amazing advice thank you.
When UA-cam recommended this video to me, I totally thought it's a new one and was glad to see Matt back. After realizing it's from 2014, I feel heartbroken.
why? what happened to Matt?
@@skrowrepap1119 He left GCN in 2018.
Great film (as usual), but one thing i'd mention is to try at least once your race-day nutrition (bars and gels) whilst training, and avoid trying new foods during the race itself which might upset your stomach
your town looks gorgeous. thanks!
For the last one there is a german saying: " Morgens wie ein König, mittags wie ein Bürger und abends wie ein Bettler"
Or: "In the morning like a king, at noon like a citizen and in the evening like a beggar"
I found it to be kinda true, especially in the evening my gravings for food were so fking strong.
Excellent video. Thanks
Much appreciated!
thanks for the video
Best GCN video of all time
Thanks!
Great tips as always!
"If you adhere to even some of these principles, you'll be well on your way to losing weight."
Simple and sensible. Just like Matt.
I'm glad these tips actually are good.
Jeeeeeez you guys are good.
I just love the way you offer such sensible, reasonable advice on whatever the subject happens to be. It's not just all pro-cyclist or casual rider focused, but content that could be relevant to anyone.
On top of that, you present it so simply and engagingly.
And finally, given the presenters' backgrounds it has added weight, because they have had to live by what they say, or have developed their ideas through their own experiences.
Huge fan.
Very nice video, i will try some of this tips!
I could eat an entire warehouse of chocolate any day! :( hehehe
Another great video thanks
Great information and really well presented. And I am relieved to learn that the Mighty Wiggo and my humble self have something in common - vodka and tonic.
My first century ride was with a friend of mine, both of us very new to cycling. We each brought 1 small granola bar to eat at the halfway point...needless to say, we both bonked hard with about 20km to get home. The longest 20km's of my life...hardly could stay upright and felt like falling asleep
weve all been there, i planned a 60 mile ride. felt good enough and ended up doing 103. needless to say i stopped at a lot of gas stations for bananas!
Modern Plays Games Bananas, life saver
excellent video - as a former pro myself this is spot on...
I cut out sugar from coffee and replaced it with healthier honey. I also use unsweetened almond milk as well.
I must admit that the first tip works a treat for me, cheers
very well done video with awesome information :)
"stick to your plan" Great idea - but I'd plan on closing the front door when I leave for a ride! Great vid btw
I just started riding bicycle to work for like 2 months, I don't feel any weight loss yet but I noticed that I get less stressed at work. Suddenly I started working smart rather than working hard. Hopefully I can follow these tips and finally start losing weight 'coz my problem is I can't stop eating after I got home from work.
very nice . will done
I'm sorry if i go out of content, but you house is so sweet !
P.s. Thanks for your advises, they gonna help me out.
Since lockdown is over I've decided to ride 1 hour a day from now on...... hopefully it goes well🤞
So about 10 miles or 16km a day
How’d it go
How's it going on or is it? 😂
How did it gov?
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips, as a young rider I'm trying hard to train my muscles and was previously just using energy drinks.
Great advice.
I lose about 15kg within 6 month. Thanks to GCN for the tips.
But every week you have to make min about 40KM and max 70KM.
awwww...such a sad face at 3:40...LOL
Enjoying the channel so far. Any chance you can reference some of the "studies" you referred to about front-loading intake in the morning and reducing it in the evening for weight loss?
Love these guys
Great video!!!
Awesome video.
More of this
Best regards from Sweden
I blew up on a ride yesterday, on mile 50 I had to stop and eat an energy bar. Probably the shittiest feeling ever.
It's THE worst thing ever. Suffered it twice now.
about 16-17 mph. Then again Chicago has the worst traffic and pot holes ever. I've gotten about 20 flats in the period of 2 months. That until I get to the forest preserve trails.
Can't wait till I'm up to 50 miles :) Only at around 20 so far.
At what point do you need to start worrying about that and bring food with you? I normally have a light breakfast and then go for a ride.
FruitMuffin take some food with you if you're riding for much more than an hour. If I'm out for a long ride I usually aim to eat something fairly small every half hour or so.
What does "blowing up" mean?... Honest question
Fantastic tips! Perfect t for all athletes regardless of sport!
very helpful and informative video
Love the location of where Matt is riding. It sure isn't my town, when riding is a hazardous to you life.
Would love to see a tour of your home looks awesome
Great video, I was glad to see I already was doing a few of the tips. My question is, how soon after waking up would you need to go riding for maximum efficacy, what's the window?
i will start trying your tips / thanks for the video mate =))
very useful video!

At the end of my last week 50km ride, I almost felt like throwing up. Once I reached home I slept for 3 straight hours without eating anything. Anyone had this kind of experience?
