    i was a beastmaster in ffxi and it took all over vanadiel going to sky to kill god's with the tragopans up there lol and with puppetmaster/rdm,god i loved those job's

      I was never able to play XI growing up but I looked into it so much and wanted to play, Puppetmaster was always such a great idea and I would love to see them bring it to XIV

    Here's my theory:
    We will get three base beast types: An assault type beast (DPS), a guardian beast (Tank) and a support beast (Healer). Possibly a single main chimeric sort of shapeshifting beast as the main gimmick of the class, and we unlock these modes, giving the class it's equiv of Aetheric Mimicry, but instead of copying another character's class role, we'd just have them like a stance.
    From there, our beast can learn skills and techniques for use in battle by battling and taming other beasts in the open world, the equiv of the blue mage book, just approached slightly differently, having your beast fight while you use your tamer skills before it faints, whether that's an observe or capture type mechanic.
    I kind of like that idea of the soups, but instead of the soup summoning a monster, it's fed to your monster to teach it the new skills (Not literally like as an item, I mean, aside form maybe something similar to the totems blue mages need for some of their spells), and this would be how you kit out your beast companion.

      I think that's an awesome idea! It would be cool to have a single monster that sort of morphs into different forms based on the attacks you want it to use for sure!

    The rare hunts are probably the beasts to get with the best stats/abilities

      If they ever choose to do so, they'll be resied to their original form and simply end up as a recolor.
      However, I doubt they will do so because Hunts are a content in itself and relying on other players (on top of being potentially unable to spawn them or encouraging some players to handle the creatures without the help of others) is the opposite of their philosophy... Except if "catching" a monster is as trivial as Blue Mage skill mimicking process. We still may have some players trying to sneakily kill monsters meant for larger group so I really don't think they'll do something alike though it's likely if there is no "catching" system.

      Wouldn't make sense because only 1 person could claim them and they def won't release a job for millions to play and only 1 mob per server per zone to claim. Plus with server travel ya probably wont

    When I heard beastmaster is coming, it instantly made me think of Summoner back in 2.0 and 3.0. Back then, we had full control of our Egi which was a lot similar to chocobo companion today. I used to use Titan Egi to cheese some mechanics in a raid such as taking on tank busters. If beastmaster is remotely similar to old summoner, I would be very happy.

      As a scholar main, 2 things I want from 7.X: 1 - bring back summoner old pet mechs and 2 bring back summoner DoT mechs

      As much as we complained about old Pet AI, if they brought it back for a limited job I think it'd be more charming than when it's on a "real" job.

      It would be neat, but with how heavily they've rotated away from relying on pet AI I doubt we'll see it reintroduced in a meaningful way.

      I can understand that for sure. It could be cool to see it as a full job, but I think making it a limited job gives them some extra flexability

      I'm most excited for it *because* its a limited job. With how much the real classes and roles are homogenized limited jobs are often the most fun job because of how out of there they are.

    Your idea makes alot of sense. Ever since they made summoners no longer a pet battle job since it felt like they were moving away from that, i strongly think it will basically be how you said, a Summoner/Bard-esk job. Like you use the jug and get a certain amount of time before you need to use another jug. Maybe even using the art shown from your friend, you will need to choose 3 jugs to have during combat and need to swap out with you Beast Master skills much like Blue Mage. This will make it so you can have a tank, healer, dps set up or any combination of such.
    I basically figured it was going to be like Bluemage again to a point. I think I like your idea more of actually using the creature on monsters in the wild to unlock it. Different creatures/jugs would make it so your attacks do different things. While using a Bear jug you would become more tanky, a wolf jug increases your dps etc etc. Or even while using certain jugs it would apply a dot or a hot to targets/allies. I would love to see this get a 1 handed weapon and a whip. The whip feels like its a must include. But then again this is coming from a guy who really REALLY wants the Blitzball to become a weapon for the game. Make it a new ranged class... i mean... just basically copy Wakka from FF10 lol

    Im always reminded of the way rangers tamed in gw1. Where some of them were legitmately challenging to do on your own.

    I can see a few possibilities;
    1. Either, due to being limited job, it might just be purely focused on the RNG collectathon, and they may allow access to duties and trials later
    2. It works similar to Summoner, were instead of wild beasts, you learn to call a familiar type, and have skills dedicated for different beasts
    Like; ram rush in, an Tonberry single stab, Corels lightning aoe, etc.
    3. Could be a stance thing, similar to Chocobo companion, and depending on the stance it changes the beast and skills you have out. So you can customize a party of just Beastmasters, with tanks, healers, DPS.

    I've been waiting for beastmaster. It may be a limited job, but blue mage has its moments and I hope to have twice as much fun with my menagerie.

    I know this is entirely unrelated, but I always imagined BST in 14 would work like the (Hunter?) in Guild Wars 2. Basically if you tame a baby monster, it will be accessible in a literal catalog

      That's a similar idea to what I proposed, so not totally unrelated! It would be cool to have your pet sort of "grow up" along side you. Almost like a very violent tamogatchi pet or something lol

    Something I'm thinking of is what's going to be the benefit of doing content on Beastmaster? Doing a raid or trial on Blue Mage comes with the chance to get an ability from a boss, but what could doing say Ifrit on Beastmaster possibly give you? A lot of talk about Capturing Beasts, we forget that Raising and Training are also important parts. I think it'd be really cool if we get generic base slate Beasts to collect, say a Jackal or a Dodo, and then through combat we train them, and what combat that is informs the end result. Like crafting a Blue Mage companion but more subtle about it. Run Dun Scaith a dozen times with a Goobue and it grows into some kind of Shadow Goobue. Run the Bowl of Embers with a Crab, now you've trained up a Firecrab. I don't actually see it happening, but I do really want to see what sort of collectibles and unlockables Beastmaster can expect from content that isn't straight lace "Here's a beast for you"
    That said, EX trials drop mounts. 🤔

    We have to bear in mind that Limited Job always cover a niche, which is why it's not meant for current content nor to be playable with traditional jobs. Blue Mages are Jacks of all trade and I guess there could be a place for Beastmaster to be more like a "solo content" job for replayability purpose. This way, each beast could fill a role like NPCs in Duty Support mode. Otherwise, it might be like WoW's hunter that can have a specific monster to add a specific buff to the team. Then, the question remains for the overall skillset : will we be able to use a a few (1~5) action per creature or will we be having actions that would work with any beast (like orders to give) , if not a mix of both (same order causing distinctive actions depending on the monster) which seems more likely to me.
    However, I doubt we'll have distinctions like "X monster is better for AoE, Y monster is best for single target" etc since most interesting encounters require single target. Besides, if there was a creature "best in slot", it would annihilate the very purpose of a limited job which blue mage barely avoids, making it widely shun because most players feel forced to acquire specific skills rather than have a collection of useful ones.

      I totally gotcha, but I also wonder how similar it's really going to be to BLU or how much it will differ. As it stands we have no idea how they structure the design because we only have one limited job, so it's hard to say if they see them as different riffs on the same coin or they need to fill two totally seperate niches

      @@sharlayanforum You're right, they totally could've made it a limited job to have more freedom to design it and to avoid to feel forced to create a weapon for each content (Blue Mage has something like 5 weapons although it was created during Shadowbringers)
      I really enjoy your video especially the part about the design to be honest ; we need some fluff on these armors :D !

    I am so excited for Beastmaster. I stopped playing back in Shadowbringers, like at the end of the main patch, and told my friend I'd return if Beastmaster was announced. Low and behold, I'm now caught up and am just vibrating and waiting for it to arrive.

    Yeah in reality probably ain't see this job until 2026 which is kind of a bummer but man am I stoked for it. The same with the final fantasy 11 collab.

    While I agree that the devs do seem to be trying to shy away from pets and their ai, I could see bst being used as a testing ground for exactly that similar to hildibrand being an animation playground. As a limited job, they won't have the needed dedication to make it work with existing dungeons like they would with a normal job.
    My original idea was similar to your hunting log idea, though more simplified to just taming random things and they would be pets with various skill sets and type. Akin to old summoner. That would give you the same wide array of random things to tame as blue mages have for their skills. I like yours better though.
    Another idea I thought might be if the devs are still shying away from pet ai is if it'll be a blue mage/puppetmaster hybrid kind of thing. Where you tame beasts to collect them and then kind of swap parts of whatever skillset/stats you want/need. Puppetmaster was I believe the second job added to ffxi that could solo. So a limited job to tweak and work through pet ai code without breaking a normal line job would make sense if you want to add a normal line pet job in the future.

      Definitely! PUP in XI got added later and could solo some stuff, but the automaton didn't get as strong as BST pets until much later on in the game. I'd love to see PUP added to 14, as they could do some really fun stuff with it!

    I'm pretty sure they cannot make beastmaster melee (or at least, not fully melee) due to encounter design. They might use melee gear, but if they want to allow same access to beastmaster as BLU has, they need to have an option to be at range for extended amounts of time, as having 4 people walk out and not be able to do damage during mechanics makes the group suffer way more than having a full BLU party for the same content.

      Possibly! I think that we should probably expect their baseline skills to be melee, and then all of their interactions with their beasts to be able to be executed at range.
      Or maybe they go with the whip and everything can be done at basically max melee, which would be a fun gameplay style to explore.

    I love the idea of Beastmaster from all previous Final Fantasy games! I will play this in FFXIV! I am not happy that it is a Limited Job though! Hopefully we get some job vids for all of the new classes coming in 7.0 soon including Beastmaster!

    I think it will work similar to BLU. maybe the beast will be separate like Mimicry. some beast will be pure dps, other tanky, and other healers. I hope it works like you stated where we have to level the beast to its highest form. Now do u think BSM will start at level 1??

    Before I even watch this, I'm pausing to make this comment. Since it's abundantly clear that FFXIV Limited Jobs are different from their predecessor variants. For instance, older Blue Mages required you to be hit by the spell, not so in FFXIV. I do not expect them to use the jug system or any form of consumable, or charming system. Since it's more likely that the FFXIV BST will have permanent pets, I do not expect them to have a timer, and you'll be able to summon them in and out at will, as long as you aren't in combat.
    1. Do not expect anything.
    2. Follow Number 1.
    I don't expect axes or whips. I expect bells. What I expect will happen in-lore, is that the bells will be able to emit sounds similar to how different mount whistles work. However, you won't need many different whistles, as the bells can be made to change their tone without having to change much in their form besides size. Also, one of the Black Waltzes in FFIX, uses a bell to summon a beast.

    I'm excited for more limited jobs, it feels more and more lately that "normal" jobs are limited by needing to follow balance rules and also fit in the 2 minute meta, job archetype language, etc. It's really freeing seeing the weird stuff they can do when they remove the assumption it needs to apply to current content. Blue mage feels more caster than any caster, it's very horizontally designed compared to other casters with tons of other potential strats than just big damage. Even between the dps loadouts there's variation based on spell needs and the situation, who has dots covered, etc. And, even its oGCDs has cast times.I'm really excited to see how beastmaster plays and interacts with blue mage.

    I can see it being just one pet which will grow from cutesy baby to big beast.
    Killing certain monsters and bosses could be milestones needed to make it grow or even evolve to be one of the three roles.
    It’ll make it less about collecting things like BLU but still grindy and a time sink.
    Player weapon will probably be cuffs or something both you and the pet can wear matching
    This is my guess anyways 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

    I think the biggest issue the BST will face in FFXIV is a lack of motivation to play it. In FFXI the world was dangerous, and BST offered players a way to solo many of the contents of the game, which usually required a party. This isn't the case in FFXIV. The open world of FFXIV is already designed to be soloable with any job in the game, so playing a BST has no benefit. They have to add some sort of difficult content for BST alone to participate in. I was thinking of something like a FFXIV "safari zone" featuring some rare types of creatures that are tough to fight. Maybe some kind of "shiny" version of creatures to tame.
    I fear the BST might end up like the blue mage for me. I enjoyed unlocking all the spells, but in the end, it all comes down to beating certain savage raids with a full blue mage party for a mount. The carnival was fun for clearing it once, but had little replay value for me.

      I think that you make good points. I reclear the carnivale challenges every week for the currencies, but outside of that BLU doesn't see a ton of play for me. I think they could add a lot of value to BST by giving it a much longer chase than filling the spell book like BLU does.
      That's why I think a system like the challenge log or a beastmasters log will be pivotal in its success.

    Honestly i really like BLU and the concept of Limited Jobs and how silly they can be that at this point i think ill be fine with BST no matter how it plays
    Im just excited to see what kind of bestiary we'll have access to on launch, what kind of variety we'll have
    I wanna see Beastmaster nerds running around with their favorite mob like you sometimes see SMNs Glamouring their Carbuncle into an Egi they really like
    I really want to see some Voidsent
    That besides im kind of surprised you didnt really bring up Chocobos and the Companion window cuz honestly i feel like BSTs monsters could work off of that just as much as it might work like SMN
    I mean probably not but the framework for having a companion with small skill trees, an exp meter and different tactics is there for them yo potentially make use of

      That was another avenue I considered for sure! What's interesting is that it could even still work with the Jug system, since Gyshal Greens are sort of a "jug" concept. My thought was that making the items consumable may cause some kind of weird economy on servers and lock jugs out of reach for some players, or require additional work outside of the job itself to summon some beasts.

    My Guess is that its going to be like Pokémon, weaken them and then you capture them. They attack on range with a boomerang.

    I dont know how it is these days in Wow. But when i played from Wrath to Mist, you tame them and they Had a shared stat line depending on the role the Pet had. Id be cool with Capturing them. Hell.. Maybe bring a blackmage to sleep them.

    As someone who considers themselves a BLU main, I am very curious to see what they do with the job because the concept in my head has essentially been "what if summoner had access to cracked out weirdness like BLU". Also, personally, I wouldn't look at another MMO for how the job will transfer to XIV because BST was balanced and designed as a regular job for XI. I would look to other entries in the series to get an idea about the core identity of the job since those singleplayer RPGs allowed access to the kinds of weird and overpowered spells/abilities that can't really exist in XIVs environment outside of BLU/special zones like Eureka.
    I say this because BLU in XI is very interesting, but they had to do a lot of extra designing on a fairly simple concept to make it not insane, so it has things like stats tied to spell choice etc which isn't a thing for blue mages in any other entry to the best of my knowledge. BLU in XIV is much more "traditional" in that you just learn stuff and can use it. It's one major limitation is simply how many spells you're allowed to carry at once because they do still have to design around things like "hey our players can only push so many buttons reasonably". We can use the same kind of logic and apply it to BST, I don't think it'll be anything too crazy design wise but you never know.

      It definitely could be the case! I mostly took the route of comparing to XI because I find it's the design that leaves the most room for adjustment, especially since in some games, BST straight up copied the skills of enemies, essentially just taking the place of a Blue Mage in the titles they functioned that way in.
      I certainly can't be sure one way or the other, but the idea of a more Frontline fighter with additional help from a beast seemed more like the core identity that makes the most sense

    You know what? We had a pet-class before.. but square took it away (Sum). How long till they do that to beast master because square doesn't know how to pet-class.

      I think that the reason they're making BST a limited class is specifically because of that reason. The reality is that the engine doesn't support a pet class like SMN because of the requirements for performance in current high end content. By eliminating that as a factor, they allow themselves more freedom to create interesting things

    Isn't it a waste to make these jobs as limited? They weren't or cannot be used in raid and they are kinda pointless outside of 'collection'

      Bluemage is really *REALLY* good in a niche amount of situations. Like the Yokai event where you can ruin everyone else's time by oneshoting bosses and easily tag mobs in fates.
      Don't get me wrong I don't want anymore limited jobs as I feel like Bluemage is all we need. I am sure beastmaster is just gonna be a variation so we don't *just* have Bluemage.

      It depends on your perspective, I suppose. If you come from the angle of current content being the only desire, then yes, I would agree with your sentiment. But a lot of different players like a lot of different things!

      Blue mages can be used in raids that they meet the level requirements for. Just because you don't do the content it was designed for doesn't mean it's pointless.

    I miss that ffxiv has no true pet based class anymore, and no, summoner and scholar don't count anymore ever since their pets just became another heal or attack effect without any independent abilities.

    The announcement of Beastmaster as a limited job really surprised me, given the developers apparent disdain for pet classes, given the neutering of the feature with arcanist/summoner.

      I think that the new way those jobs function has basically allowed them to move forward with things like Beastmaster and Puppetmaster. Without the changes they made, I doubt we'd ever see those jobs.

    The only thing I think is that it won't get a whip. Whip implies using it on your pets, and neither Japan nor America are very keen on whipping pets.

    I was a FFXIV version 1 player and have waited this whole time, 14 years, for them to bring Beast Master into the game. It was my favorite class in FFXI along with Puppet Master. I have to say It is disappointing that is it is just going to be a "Half ass class" along with Blue Mage. Knowing I can't take it to max level, knowing that I can't do the new story with it, can't do the new dungeons or raids... it is just deeply disappointing. I'm happy that is it finally coming to the game, but sad on how it will be implemented. I'd really love Beast or Puppet master to be my main job.

      I totally understand that feeling, as a long time PUP and BLU player in XI.
      I think within the design philosophy of 14 it makes sense for these jobs to be designated in a different way though.

      They certainly *could* be, but they would require a ton of modifications and be essentially unrecognizable in order to fit into the holy trinity that exists in 14.

      @@sharlayanforum Good. The game could use a little mix-up. They have made each class so bland it is basically the same as the next. If you tank, you just choose your weapon now, all the abilities are basically the same as the other tanks just with a different "flavor" to suit the theme. I find it dull, and hand-holding. I'd love to see something break the mold with a new form of DPS or Tank. I think Beast Master or Puppet Master would be a perfect fit.

      I understand that mentality, for sure, and agree that many of the jobs feel very homogenized. I just don't think that the dev team is going to take massive swings on risks for balancing in the future. We can go back and forth about whether they should or shouldn't, but what matters is what they think is balanced, as they are the designers of the content and jobs at the end of the day.
      I'm all for people voicing their opinions, but I find the argument that "every job is the same" is generally only held by people who played in Heavensward when the game was subjectively more fun and complex but objectively designed more poorly for the average player, or by people who play at the top 5% of the player base where they are consistently clearing all the content in the game and have everything maxed.
      I also want to clarify that, to me, as a long time FF player, the idea of the soul of the job remaining intact and being analogous to its previous interactions is FAR more important to me than it being in the game by name only. I fear that if BLU and BST, or eventually PUP were in the game, they would be so far removed from what makes them what they are to fit into the design philosophy of 14 that they would not be the jobs that we know them as.
      I'd argue that forcing these jobs into the holy trinity system would be a much more "half-assed" attempt at their design than cutting out a niche and letting them shine seperately.

    It will not be as fun FFXI , those ffx14 combat routine and side are boring as fuck and will never allow the fun of building our own combat routine and developpe our style like in FFXI. FFXIV think only about being easy ,causual ,run of any pc and sell lot copie without effort.

    FFXI did a better job at designing the classes than FFXIV did and limiting them isn't a cool design I heavily contemplated playing the game due to its limitations compared to FFXI as it was more in tune with modern games with its true flexibility, not saying FFXIVis bad but it's not nearly as openminded with its limitations and locking everything behind some kind of wall, that being said the story up to shadowbringers has been great but Endwalker was very underwhelming. the community is its most redeeming quality.

      They're two very different design philosophies for sure. Games like XI are a totally different experience compared to something like XIV. I think that if you isolated the jobs from XI and pretended like they all existed in a vacuum there's a lot of crossover, but the subjob system and a lot of the different choices that were made in basic gameplay shift the design so much that they become very separate experiences.

    Being frank, I think it’s a bad idea for the devs to continue with limited jobs at all.
    It feels like a waste of resources to dedicate to something that appeals to so few players as is, and while I’m aware BLU is designed very cautiously, as it could easily break the game, at the same time, it really just isn’t enjoyable to play as, and the content made for it is 90% grinding for levels and spell gathering. There’s basically nothing about it worth doing after a point, not helping that over half the spells they get are garbage.

      I can understand why someone might feel that way, but I think it's important to remember that FF14 is a big game with a lot of people playing it.
      Everyone has their little micro-niche of content that they love. A lot of people like BLU's gameplay a lot! I think the biggest trap for limited jobs is going to be a way to make their "gimmick" unique enough from the other job. If all BST turns out to be is "go kill a thing and then you can use one of it's attacks" it'll just be BLU with a skin.

      I understand! I certainly wasn't saying that everyone has to enjoy everything in the game, just that the devs have to consider everyone's playstyle and likes when developing content.
      Some stuff isn't for some people, and that's okay!
