@@DrLoriV when you find something silver that is either of this high quality, or something that is just antique, should you ever use a silver polishing cloth on the item to remove tarnish and polish it up?
OMG Holy Moley, I know most ppl are watching these videos to see if they can learn about the value of antiques, but myself personally in this particular case, being someone who appreciates both fine art and history, if I were that guy i'd first immediately be getting a ceritfied authenticated appraisal on that piece and then immediately follow that by contacting the Faberge Museum and see if I could either sell it or donate it back to the museum, so that its back with the Faberge collection where it belongs. Im the kinda person who cares more about the historical preservative value of major artwork like that, versus the monetary value, but thats just me. I agree with sachri. People losing their storage units just gets me. They rarely cost $40 a month anymore they start at $150. I met a guy who had 3 units. Another guy lost his unit and he was in anguish...real torment... because his mother's ashes were in it. He didn't have a car or job and the storage was a couple hour drive down a mountain road. It's too emotional. The laws are pretty strict. I don't think you can give items as pay for cleaning but I'm sure it's done. Beautiful item Dr Lori. You really learned a lot in Russia!
I. M. You can do anything you want with the items I’m pretty sure. I do know most good places will have the people who either buy the units or clean them out bring personal items like wallets birth certificates death certificates things like that to them and they will try to contact the owner. And will hold again for a certain length of time. But I’m pretty sure at least here in Texas you can do whatever with the items once it’s been unpaid for a certain amount of time.
And I certainly would never put anything as important as my moms ashes in a storage unit no matter what. Especially if I knew I wasn’t paying my storage fees. I mean there is so many things that gentleman could have done before he ever had his unit cleared out to retrieve those ashes. He could have even called the owners and told them he was aware he had not been paying his rent. Then he could have told them where the ashes were and guess what? They would have gone in there and retrieved them for him. Or he could have had a friend go get them. By the time the owners do this it’s been atleast a couple most of the time several months of no payments. People know if they’re not paying their rents. They can make arrangements to get what is extremely important out if they cannot figure out how to pay for their fees. I could go on and on about why it’s not really that tragic. There is a lot that can be done before it gets to that situation. A friend of mine owns several storage facilities. Trust me you can handle your business if you simply put forth a sliver of effort. But again my rule would definitely be not to put something so significant in a storage unit anyway.
