    OMG Holy Moley, I know most ppl are watching these videos to see if they can learn about the value of antiques, but myself personally in this particular case, being someone who appreciates both fine art and history, if I were that guy i'd first immediately be getting a ceritfied authenticated appraisal on that piece and then immediately follow that by contacting the Faberge Museum and see if I could either sell it or donate it back to the museum, so that its back with the Faberge collection where it belongs. Im the kinda person who cares more about the historical preservative value of major artwork like that, versus the monetary value, but thats just me. However best wishes to that fella and hope he gets every cent of value from such an incredibly rare find. BTW Dr. Lori I only just discovered your YT channel yesturday and have been down the rabbit hole of your videos ever since, youre awesome and thankyou so much for these videos and am learning a ton of info about antiques & collectibles from you. I agree with sachri. People losing their storage units just gets me. They rarely cost $40 a month anymore they start at $150. I met a guy who had 3 units. Another guy lost his unit and he was in anguish...real torment... because his mother's ashes were in it. He didn't have a car or job and the storage was a couple hour drive down a mountain road. It's too emotional.
    The laws are pretty strict. I don't think you can give items as pay for cleaning but I'm sure it's done.
    Beautiful item Dr Lori. You really learned a lot in Russia!

      I. M. You can do anything you want with the items I’m pretty sure. I do know most good places will have the people who either buy the units or clean them out bring personal items like wallets birth certificates death certificates things like that to them and they will try to contact the owner. And will hold again for a certain length of time. But I’m pretty sure at least here in Texas you can do whatever with the items once it’s been unpaid for a certain amount of time.

    • @thruErinseyes
      @thruErinseyes 5 років тому +1

      And I certainly would never put anything as important as my moms ashes in a storage unit no matter what. Especially if I knew I wasn’t paying my storage fees. I mean there is so many things that gentleman could have done before he ever had his unit cleared out to retrieve those ashes. He could have even called the owners and told them he was aware he had not been paying his rent. Then he could have told them where the ashes were and guess what? They would have gone in there and retrieved them for him. Or he could have had a friend go get them. By the time the owners do this it’s been atleast a couple most of the time several months of no payments. People know if they’re not paying their rents. They can make arrangements to get what is extremely important out if they cannot figure out how to pay for their fees. I could go on and on about why it’s not really that tragic. There is a lot that can be done before it gets to that situation. A friend of mine owns several storage facilities. Trust me you can handle your business if you simply put forth a sliver of effort. But again my rule would definitely be not to put something so significant in a storage unit anyway.

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  5 років тому +1

    Just found your channel and have enjoyed watching , But ( there is always that But ) no matter what you or any appraiser place a value on a item it will only be worth what someone is willing to pay . That being said I commend you on helping people find out whether or not that ugly vase should go in a auction or on a yard sale table .

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  5 років тому +3

      Hi Rojer, Thanks for watching. I'm not like other appraisers. My values are based on what someone actually paid for said item using actual sales records. Thus, my values are what people are willing to pay and have paid. I appreciate your comments.

    • @rojergrison3752
      @rojergrison3752 5 років тому

      @@DrLoriV I understand that , I just meant at any given time no matter what something may have gone for in the past or may go for in the future the value of that item will be determined by how much anyone is willing to pay at that time .(example) An original Picasso may go for a million dollars today but tomorrow it could be considered as worthless (highly unlikely) to own .

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  5 років тому +3

      I appreciate the feedback, but I disagree. Quality pieces hold their value. I use sales records just like a real estate appraiser uses comparables to determine home prices. Real estate is about location. Antiques are about quality. Potential buyers of antiques use your argument to try to make you think your stuff is worthless so they can buy it cheaper. Thanks again for your comments.

    • @thruErinseyes
      @thruErinseyes 5 років тому +2

      Rojer Grison I completely disagree with your opinions. It’s actually kind of silly. I don’t think you’re going to ever, atleast not in our lifetime find Picasso paintings worthless. I mean you can say these things but that doesn’t make them true. And the items that are valued at such high prices are partially valued at them because their value has lasted through the sands of time. They hold their value. You can find some items that may be new to the collectible scene that will go for a few thousand one year and a year or ten later nobody is collecting those items anymore. Then the items may be worthless as you say. But actual antiques and exquisite works of art have always had a lot of value and will probably barring some catastrophic world event always have that kind of value. I think my point is there is a difference in antiques and works of art and collectibles. Which your theory works more for collectibles. Hopefully I made sense. Ha!

    Wow, what a fortunate find. Not everyone comes across such a stunning, royal, museum quality piece just by being at the right place at the right time and knowing the right person all at once. 🥚🇷🇺👑

    Your in my top ten of channels ... do you have interns?

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  3 роки тому

      If I had interns, my channel would be #1 with them. Check with your other 9 channels and ask if they are looking for interns :) Why am I not #1?
