Very expressive. What struck me in this performance is is the allmost absence of any festive mood (in spite of the opening and closing choruses). One feels the deep grief of Bach and his fellow believers about missing the special loved one who possesed the solution for all trouble on earth and now is gone.

Hören Sie sich Hilary Hahn's Bach-Stücke an: göttliche Offenbarungen und fast schon Glaubensbekenntnisse.
Oder die "von oben" inspirierten Klänge einer Sumi Jo oder der kleinen Himari.

Jetzt hab ich nach 40--jährigem Chorgesang gedacht, dass ich alles von Bach kenne.
Da kommt diese Überraschung, und dazu noch so schön aufgeführt.
(Ein wahres Geschenk für mich "alten Mann".)
Ganz großartige Musiker. "Gaechinger Cantorey" inwischen auch mit historischen Instrumenten (da könnte man natürlich diskutieren), auch die Bildregie ist intelligent (man sieht wirklich, wer gerade singt/ spielt, nicht wer gerade Pause hat :).

Ich kann kb nur zustimmen.Ich habe auf die bildliche Wiedergabe verzichtet, da mir die Unruhe zu störend war. Die musikalische Qualität von BWV 11 ist wirklich hervorragend. Eine der besten Aufnahmen !

I don't understand the bad reviews of the making of the video. As for the musical execution, I can only say that it is superb. I like it even better than Gardiner's version, which is saying something.

Eine wunderbare Aufnahme. Schade nur, dass Bild und Ton so asynchron sind, das ist sehr irritierend.
Der Bildschnitt ist furchtbar! Hat nichts mit musikalischem Inhalt zu tun. Es soll wohl nur irgendwie gut aussehen, daher die vielen closeups. Schade um die so gut ausgeführte Musik!

When is this craze for the male alto coming to an end? Aren't there some real altos who could use the work?
Neither male or female altos produce a sound that would have been familiar to Bach. He used boys, aged 15 to 16, whose voices hadn't broken, and who sang in the alto range.
No , there are almost no decent female altos worldwide who could do the work the right way ... one exception : Ingeborg Danz !!! she produced some cantatas with Herreweghe ... absolutely outstanding performances by her !!
