Manchester has lost a lot of Irish owned pubs the last two decades. There was a great one in Levenshulme called the Fiddlers. Lovely couple who ran it and a great place for an afternoon pint of Guinness. No a Middle Eastern restaurant. There was also the Ardri, another great Irish nightclub, long since closed. The 32 Club, long gone. Have to admit, I've walked past Mulligans a few times but have never been in.
Well that's obvious. But ye man loves his black and is enticed by the intricacies and technicalities. I've ran an Irish pub in Birmingham for 14 years and love the content. There must be a fair few landlords or cellar managers out there loving ye mand shpeel like me.
Was in Mulligans at the weekend and it was cracking as always. However, I have to say the best pint of Guinness I had in Manchester was in The Freemount in the Northern Quarter. Unbelievable drop.
Had my first Guinness in the factory in Dublin 2 weeks ago, always wanted to try my first one from the source. Im 37 years old and have become a critic of how its ruined in my locals back in Liverpool. No 45 degree angle on the pour, no dome, like piss water, no creamy head. Almost wish id never had one because im disappointed everywhere i go now 🤣. I work in Manchester tho, so this is on my list now.
Sadly never managed to visit Manchester, but my favorite 20 years ago was the Mother Red Cap at the top of London's Holloway Road, round the corner from the Archway station. Also the Drum and Monkey, full of first and second generation Irish. It all felt really authentic - lock-ins and a bloke selling An Phoblacht. I imagine they are probably now 'gastropubs' producing oriental-mediterranean fusion dishes for Italian investment bankers and trustafarians.
Back to the stuff! Completely understand the move away from 'Guinness guru' but this is what we want!! More of you pouring and necking creaming f*****g pints please !
Nice pint pouring technique he has there. Reminds me of trying to get a good pour out of those inconsistent mini-kegs you can finally master with a bit of practice.
Harbour Bar in Portrush does a belter of a pint. Best I’ve had - including Dublin. Keg is just under the bar and they pour so many per hour it’s hardly ever stationary in the pipes!
That pour replicates the original 2 keg pour with the first keg the cream the second less gas and more liquid to lift the head. Luv the turn you’ve made making the pub the focus then whatever beer is the popular pour there. Great stuff.
I love to see any human this enthusiastic about something. Collect beetles? Cool. Obsess over a standardized approach to pouring a particular stout? Even better. Enjoyed the production a lot, will be following along
Daragh, you should get to the Franciscan Well pub in Cork City to try Shandon Stout… decided to try it on a whim recently, my new favourite stout by far now. It’s like chocolate milk
I used to start my drinking session at mulligans good few years ago, used to love their guinness, not been there for ages now but we r going for a meal out in Manchester for mothers day and watching this made me want to go back there for a pint or 2 of black stuff. Ps; any recommendations for guinness or local stout in Cork coz going there in few weeks time 🍻👍
I think Daragh did a Cork video. Was only there for a couple of days and didn't have any amazing guinness although the one at the bus stop for Blarney Castle was decent. Avoid Le Chateau on the main strip. The Franciscan Well brewery was a nice spot, did pizzas and had a good vibe. Edit; should specify the franciscan well place had a stout on.
Just had a pint of Liffey water in "The Dublin Inn" Rayong Thailand & although the pour was terrible, the pint wasn't half bad. £6.60, which is expensive in Thailand, but a fair price back in London.
Over £7 a pint for hype. Been to Mulligans twice in the last year, and both times the Guinness has been nothing more than average. Going to sound ridiculous but I’ve had better Guinness in some weatherspoon’s, than mulligans. Either their quality has gone rapidly downhill in the last 12 months, or the online hype has been nothing more than a brown envelope in the back pocket of a few content creators.
Id like you to go visit on a busy saturday Dargah! When its really busy and packed its still a good pint of guinness and one of the best in the UK but its not as good as you say on days like that. Bar staff was pulling them fast and inconstantly and i had 2 and left because it was far from creamy. When youve got a bar full of random drinkers of lager, ciders, bottle drinkers and guinness drinkers it does feel its all rushed and the quality the other week reflected this.
I couldn't tell if the young guy was doing it or not but when I worked in a bar in Belfast I was always told that sticking the nozzle of the tap in the pint is a no no
It IS a no no and Daragh Domage knows this but let this boy and his bezzie down at the Devonshire off with it of course. Wouldn't see that in GRAVEDIGGERS.

Went there on Saturday. Was a cracking pint. Also went to Mulligans on Poolbeg St in Dublin at Xmas. That was another belter.
Would love you to get really granular one day, showing the gas mix, barrels and how they are stored, the glass cleaning, all of it. Great vid pal!

Had a shocking pint in Mulligans in summer. Not been back since, shame as it is a great pub although pricey.
