Hey, NASCAR, it sure would be nice to run this race on July 4th or the weekend of the 4th again. Moving this race to August was like taking the Southern 500 away from Labor Day Sunday.
@@ManMountainMetals Then the best team/driver/car won. There weren’t 36 cars finishing on the lead lap and only a few cars actually competing for the win. Who’s ever out front can’t be passed because of “aero push”? I’ll take one or two cars on the lead lap any day.
@Timster2 best driver and or team no longer wins because it is entertainment now, oh, and I am not saying it is better now. I was discussing why it changed the way it did.
*POINT STANDINGS and WINS before the 1981 FIRECRACKER 400 (17 of 31):* #28 Bobby Allison (2512pts with 4 wins, Buick) #11 Darrell Waltrip (-256 with 5 wins, Buick) #88 Ricky Rudd (-295, Buick) #2 Dale Earnhardt (-329, Pontiac) #33 Harry Gant (-377, Pontiac) #90 Jody Ridley (-389 with 1 win, Ford) #43 Richard Petty (-476 with 2 wins, Buick) #44 Terry Labonte (-530, Buick) #15 Benny Parsons (-605 with 2 wins, Ford) Cale Yarborough (#27 Buick) decided to move down to a partial schedule yet still won the Atlanta 500. Morgan Shepherd (Pontiac #5) surprised many when he won the Virginia 500. Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. Yes, I’m using the unsponsored names of the races. In Daytona’s case, the opening race was the Daytona 500 while the Independence day one was the Firecracker 400.
"On December 17, 1979, Stan Barrett attempted to break the land speed record, and the sound barrier in the Budweiser Rocket rocket-powered three-wheel vehicle. His calculated speed was 739.666 miles per hour, (Mach 1.01), which would have made Barrett the first man to break the sound barrier in a land vehicle."
@@gary24fan Spoiler came lose and the down 👇 force balancing rod broke and couldn't get thru the corners lost to much on the straight away if that part would of held won by 2 Laps at least #43 for life
I love how Sir Jackie respected all forms of racing. And Keith as well.

Cars being able to pass at will and no stages! Tell me again how today’s NASCAR is better?
Back then you would have 1 cars 2 laps ahead of everyone and people left at halfway mark.

@Timster2 back then it pissed people off and they quit watching after 3/4 of a race.
