1970 was the greatest year ever in NASCAR history. I was 18 and racing was in my blood. 1970 gave us the Hemi Daytonas/Superbirds and Boss 429 Talladegas/Cyclone Spoilers. It was also the first year that ABC started covering racing in a larger way than just snippets on Wide World of Sports, although this particular race was on WWOS. They did a great job with NASCAR and also did some NHRA racing. Who could not love the field that we had here at Charlotte?
Great race by LeeRoy Yarbrough. Sad that LeeRoy essentially gave his life and well being for the love of racing. We appreciate LeeRoy's talent and skill, yet mourn his struggles and early demise. God bless.
When I was a young boy watchin' these races, I thought that a racist was a race car driver, and I would tell everyone that I wanted to be a racist. 😆🤣😲
this happened all year.........the wing caused too much down force and shredded the tires..........the Ford guys just had to lay back and watch it happen.
LOL Once again you're wrong. I think one time you've said something accurate over the past decade or so you've been crapping on NASCAR videos and this is not that one time. Dodge won the championship, Plymouth had the most wins and yet, you still want to pretend Ford dominated... Why is that? You just hate facts and reality so much you have to make stuff up and run with it? Been over it again and again. Ford won 1969, Chrysler won 1970 and over the 2 years, there is a difference of ONE (1) win on the big tracks, with Ford getting it. They were very equal in performance, Chrysler having the aero advantage and Ford having around 15 more HP, but you always want to pretend Ford dominated because you're just *that* guy.
@@MrJohnnyDistortion lol, the winged cars never won a race at Charlotte. and Petty was sort of right, the wings made so much downforce on the back thay they just shredded the tires...........the Ford was a much more balanced car.

I don't care what anyone says, those Superbirds were the sickest cars ever.
1970 was a great year for racing
Aero wars between the Winged Cars of Dodge and Plymouth vs. fastbacks of Ford and Mercury.

Yeah its a disturbing story.
Thanks for telling us you're not racist for the 1078th time.
fr but this is a old broadcast
What are you referring to? I didn't hear anyone mention racism.
Boy there’s one of you in every crowd! Get a life!

The Winged cars might have an advantage, hah.
Yes it would.
Shame that the lower speeds were attributed to those crashes.
Was there ever any explanation as to why ALL of the top birds sustained flat right tires?

Slower speeds less down force and less traction and running harder in the corners.
That intro text disclaimer is offensive and does not align with my values.

overall the winged cars were dramatic looking but were not very good race cars............once again a Ford won.

That wasn't why.
